When I first started playing, I learned a bunch of easy pop punk songs because my friends were in bands and that was what they played and I wanted to be in a band too. After a while I got into more technical music (i.e. more riff/groove-oriented music with solos) so I learned how to play the blues scale and make riffs and solos out of minor pentatonics. So that led me to my first band which was a kind of indie/blues rock thing. After a while longer I got into '80s shred guitar guys so I taught myself some classical-sounding scales and sweep picking and all that shit. "Metalcore" was kind of at its peak popularity at the time so I was invited to join a local technical death metal band since I had the skill set to play that kind of music. When I started college I was surrounded by jazz studies majors so I picked up some jazz theory and did some intensive music theory studying in general; I also really got into The Mars Volta and I wanted to write and perform similarly energetic technical prog rock. After a few years of random improv/jazz/funk gigs at bars in my city I responded to a CL ad for a prog band seeking a guitarist and I've been with that group for two years. We've written new music, recorded, and gigged extensively since then.

So I guess my point is that I was always developing the skill set for the music I wanted to do at any given time. You need to do that constantly as a musician in order to have any sort of success with whatever it is you're into. And don't be afraid to reach out to people who share your influences/inspirations.

Allegedly, a guitar designed by SRV himself. I haven't found much info it. (Yes, I'm ignoring the elephant in this post.)
>>
>>76276417
So, you have to have friends who play instruments to start a band.
>>
>>76276448
I mean, you need to know people who play instruments, idk if they necessarily need to be your "friends". I didn't know any of the guys in my current band before I joined, I just figured that having some common musical ground would be a good starting point for creating music together and friendships would work themselves out. Pretty much what ended up happening.

Im pretty sure this is bait but why a syn model? Didnt you already have one? Ive tried a custom made one. They arent that special. Just real solid. Look into expensive charvels instead. Better necks
>>
>>76280984
>A good Charvel for $500
No.
>lol its shit jus play what i play bro
No.

It's discontinued, I ain't letting this one pass. I just hope the guy still has it, waiting for him to reply on Whatsapp.
>>
>>76280997
I dont play a charvel tho. All im saying is i dont think those models are worth anything past the hardware. But 500 aint bad for a good floyd 2 invader pickups and wood. You can do as you like with your money. Just seems like an impulsive purchase.
>>
How should I train barre chords? I've been practicing Tárrega's Estudio en mi minor for about a week and I can already play everything quite well but it seems like I haven't improved in the barre chord at all.

Here's the barre in tab
e|-5--------3--------2-------|
B|----4--------4--------4----|
G|-------2--------2--------2-|
D|---------------------------|
A|-2-------------------------|
E|---------------------------|

My pinky turns inward quite much so it's difficult to bar the 2nd and fret the 5th fret at the same time.

Oh I've never posted this one before, just got done setting it up. I made this thing when I was 17 in 2014 I think.
Not the wood of course. I found some guy selling it on the street when I went to the city one day, it was a regular SSS tobacco burst Strat. Literally unplayable back then, frets were fucked up, tuners were shit, pickups were obviously worthless, it was $40 bucks after all.
If I had to guess I would say it's been around since 1980-something since it was so beat up.

Not a Squier though, the headstock used to say "Leem Guitars" but I could never find anything about that brand online. Don't know what wood the body is either but it's heavy as fucking shit so that's good.
It has gone through a lot of different looks through these years but I think I'm happy with this one.

Feel free to shit on me all you want.

The Japanese stuff is comparable to the Mexican stuff, cheaper for Fender to make them out in Japan than send the Mexican stuff out. Lots of people seem to romanticise them for some reason, they really aren't that special.

The Mexican stuff is getting really good these days though, my mate has a Mexican tele that feels and plays better than my 2001 USA Tele, a decent set of pickups and it would be killer.
>>
>>76286750
I think the appeal of Jap Fender is not the origin (although I guess that works for weebs) but rather the fact that they get some configurations and set ups not seen in mexican or american made Fender stuff.
I remember seeing a J-Bass config that looked pretty neat, and it was JDM only for example.
>>
>>76286626
is that brendan "just" fraser?
>>
>>76286831
Yeah that is a good point. My main issue is that Fender realise people put them above Mexican ones for some reason and charge more for them, and it simply isn't justified. Although at the end of the day if you like the guitar and can afford it, then why not.

Is it possible to buy pre-sanded and pre-slotted guitar nuts for stratocaster? I've bought a pre-slotted bone nut, but it litterally takes forever to sand. I've probably spent an hour sanding it and I'm fucking done.
>>
>>76287451
It doesn't take that long to sand. If it started way too high you should have sanded the bottom down more first. There's no such thing as a nut that you can buy cut exactly how you want it without them ever seeing your guitar. Alternately, do you have a dremel?

while noticing (and trying to fix it) that i make strenght with the thumb and tense the hand for doing bar chords i also realized that i often do that for fretting single notes when i'm not too comfortable with a movement as an anxious and uninformed alternative to playing stuff without stopping and practicing it slowly and taking care to just use the fingers and not tense the hand or use the thumb to help fretting. i'm doing that now to fix this pain-causing vice.

JB junior, it is really good. Really full and punchy sound and very dynamic which I like. You can do daft high gain stuff with it, but through a decent valve amp you get the authentic Led Zep / ZZ Top / Skynyrd / UFO sound. I have a coil split on mine which is a total waste of time. If you get one, don't bother wiring one in.
>>76288242

>>76288364
Aye, I only play acoustic as I enjoy singing/songwriting more than anything. Love Martins, I have the 00015m and plan to get a standard series alongside it in a few years, probably the D28.

Guitar on the left is a 70s Giannini, nice classical guitar but haven’t played it in a while.
>>
>>76288189
Have they ever released the specs for this?
>>
>>76288529
They are gorgeous, I love the 000 series Martins. Don't know a damn thing about classical, how does it sound?

If you look at standard series make sure you play a few - I went in expecting to buy a D28 and I ended up choosing between an HD28, a D18, and a Gibson J45. Youtube tells you so much, but playing them is a totally different experience. Thought I would like the Hummingbird but it was gutless and not for me at all
>>
>>76288364
thanks for the info man. i'm currently thinking about putting together a partscaster and that everything axe seymour duncan set really caught my eye. the body I have with me is pretty fucked up but still salvageable, and I have a quite comfortable mighty mite neck to go with it.
>>
>>76288638
The classical sounds beautiful, all solid build with Brazilian rosewood back and sides. My mum had good taste as a teenager.

Yeah, I’m not fixed on the D28, definitely going to try out a few models before making my mind up.
>>

talk to any music teacher worth a shit and they will completely disagree with you. Giving them physical names makes it easier to associate with the terms. >>
Bought a guitar off of Craigslist a little while ago and started having issues with the electronics. Whenever I try and mess with the volume knob or the pickup selector it starts sputtering and it's slowly gotten worse and started lasting for longer periods of time. If I'm on the neck pickup it works fine but if I jump to the bridge or both it's a crapshoot.

Anyone ever deal with something like this? One person said it might be a grounding issue, another said it might be grime and recommended contact cleaner (guitar was a little dingy when I picked it up). Either way will it probably be obvious if I open it up?
>>
>>76293801
Using my own Eastwood as a measure, it probably plays well enough but the parts won't be of the best quality.

>>76293824
