What's your favorite Zappa album and why? I love pic related because it has hints and elements of everything that made this lunatic genius so fun to listen to. Great guitar solos, amazingly complex song arrangements, hilarious and satirical lyrics, sleazy singing, horns... I could go on. And there's a lot in there for a 35 minute record.

Literally the most accomplished live recording ever made

Also Frank's jokes are actually funny

Freak Out (Providing it's the original vinyl and not the C.D. re-issue)

Not only is it eclectic and has so many different styles it's one of the best tributes to Pet Sounds I've ever heard so far.

Uncle meat. It's got a lot of great songs and I love King Kong. It's got quick weird pop songs like on earlier mothers albums but it also has lots of drawn out instrumental sections, which I like. It's a bit of everything great about zappa. Also I like it when Don whips it on 'em.

Have you seen the live DVD? I didn't realize Frank did some percussion until I saw it.

This. It's pretty much everything that makes Zappa great condensed into a single (double) album.

He played drums in high school. He didn't pick up guitar until he was like 18 or 19 years old.

If I were to introduce a newbie to Zappa, I'd recommend Over-Nite Sensation and Uncle Meat would definitely be my second rec to get into the weirder older stuff FZ did
