I don't judge, but it seems kinda weird considering pic.

Sorry ShelBro but my 28mm tires feel great at ~60 PSI through the shitty pavement I have to endure every day
>>
>>1237214
2,6" tires don't need much pressure with a 60kg rider...

You know Sheldon rode fixed gear himself, right?
>>
>>1237386
The Lord works in mysterious ways.
>>
>>1237392
Implying Sheldon didn't cause the fixie craze himself.

When I found a broken down Peugeot in 2004 and started googling how to fix it, I landed on Sheldon's and ended up turning it into a single speed
>>

'The Lord' is a mean selfish petulent child.
>>
>>1237480
Come to think now that you mention it, that might actually be true.
>>
>>1237501
It was an exciting time, when used track frames were available on Craigslist for pennies, and every fixie was a DIY job

The gross stuff was already starting when I heard about them, but Brooklyn hipsterism hadn't infected the entire world yet

I still respect a DIY fixie but have personally never ridden one further than 20 feet
>>
>>1237501
Here's his archived page on fixed gear, went live in *1999* - almost two decades ago now

I'm guessing NYC messenger culture was the bigger influence, I think there is an 80s movie about it where they ride fixed.. Rush?

But the Sheldon page contributed a lot I'm sure

> I think there is an 80s movie about it where they ride fixed.. Rush?
You're thinking of Quicksilver (1986). But I really can't imagine that movie being that influential.

Premium Rush came out in 2012. Wow, has it been that long already? Feels like it was just a couple of years ago /n/ was all excited for that movie.
>>
>>1237512 I just realise that I'have been in 4chan for a really Long time. When Premium rush was announced I already had some years here.
The ride never ends.

>>
>>1237620
No we weren't, we just mocked it. Maybe you were, son.
>>
>>1237625
As I remember it the mocking didn't really start in ernest until the movie came out.
>>
>>1237635
The problem wasnt that it was a bad bike movie. The fixed gear bike messenger chic fad had faded
>>
Sheldon, Rivbike, Bikeforums all got me into bikes. And by that I mean wasting thousands of dollars on dumb half retrogrouch monstrosities that sucked. I am still in recovery from this

I never new who sheldon was until i came here and i still didnt know much until i read about all the bikes he owned

https://www.sheldonbrown.com/org/bicycle.html

The man tried every incarnation of bike over a 50 year period.... he was far ahead of time [pic related] is the 50's bike he was offroading in cali in the early 70's
>>
>>1237695
That's true. I got in on the fixie fad at the tail end.

In any case, there was a lot of talk about Premium Rush here before it was released. I got the impression that people were disappointed when it came out.

direct to consumer all day, every day. Fuck our LBS should only be your mechanic in certain situations- never your bike dealer.
>>
>>1237817
Bike sales are what keep the lights on at your LBS. You can't have one without the other.
>>
>>1237888
LBSes break even on bike sales, if they're lucky. Low margin, eat up lots of floor space and staff time, have to guess which sizes and styles will be popular, and have to cuck hard to Trek/SpecEd/Giant to get decent wholesale prices. Usually they have to sell 90% of one brand to get good wholesale prices that give them a chance at margin. They make all of their money on parts, service, and especially apparel. The markup on clothes and shoes is sick.
>>
>>1238031
So why even bother selling bikes?
>>
>>1238041
Loss leader to get the butts in the door. Also when you sell a bike it's a good chance to sell service packages, accessories, and all of the other shit you make margin on.
>>
>>1238031
I work for a bike shop and you're wrong. Markup on pretty much everything, complete bikes included is about 100%, and at our particular shop we turn away service in the summertime to focus on bike sales.
>>
>>1237230
are you a 45kg schoolgirl
>>
>>1237386
When did this "loving god" meme start. Read the old testament he is vengful as fuck, and the Bible literally says to fear him multiple times.
>>
>>1238093
This, the heretical churches all watered down the Bible to make it more suitable for middle aged born again hippie fucks. Real Bible if hardcore as fuck
>>
>>1238072
Yes hehe let's talk on discord.
>>
>>1237802
They've all been dismantled
I don't have a single working bike now
Best bike I ever actually had was a CAAD4 that was three sizes too small
I'm refusing to build a new bike from the mountain of parts
This has been going on for a decade now
I am going to buy a STOCK disc brake, thru axle, STI shifting bike... THEN get a mechanic to put a generator hub and light on it
I'm gonna get out of this hell and back to riding
Never again

It's like a motorcycle shop or gun shop. Literally exact same business model. Unless you are selling super high end bikes you make a reasonable profit but not amazing on new bikes but you make your money on accessories, clothes, shoes, jerseys, tuneups, and upgrades.

(that's essentially the new LBS model, since pseudo-LBS chains have sprung up that get tons of models on credit)
