Looking at buying a Honda? Post here and we'll tell you our elitist asshole opinions!Need help identifying a chassis?>http://www.superstreetonline.com/how-to/chassis-suspension/1312-honda-chassis-code-checklist/Last thread: >>27868826
Went ahead and did 5% on the FL5. I am now blind at night. No regrets.
>>27931906Who buys Hondas these days? They’ve been worse than Toyota and Mazda by every metric for 25 years now. I’d honestly just assume get a Nissan.
>>27932051>bait
>>27931906Why does the L15 in the accord make 190hp on 87 but the L15 in the Si need premium to make 10 hp more?
>>27932047Based, you're gonna be driving a fridge when the A/C is on, nigga.
>>27932074Because with 91 it can advance timing. The Si is tuned for that and the accord isn't.
>>27932051People who want the last good JDM performance car on the US market that’s not ugly as sin or unobtanium.
>>27932107It's already noticeable. I'm gonna go back and get 70% on the windshield, just for the heat rejection, plus ive got astigmatism and I've heard even clear tint helps. It's Llumar IRX so it rejects 62% of total solar energy. It's amazing how much better ceramic tint is than the old dyed shit.
>>27932074>>27932127I personally wish Honda would recommend 91 octane or the best possible fuel you can find on all L15B engines, my CM Accord has such low cylinder pressures, and even still, under certain loads like going up a hill in too high of a gear where it starts lugging at low rpm, I can hear it briefly ping, I can't imagine what's going on in these 1.5T engines with boost and shit fuel in the tank like people put in because Honda said 87 was okay.
>>27932051Fuck ya mudda, that's why>>27932190I run 93 in my Civic and it genuinely helps
>>27932259
>>27932259I'm almost considering putting 91 in my CM, under normal cruising situations with light load it's fine, but when you do extreme load like beating the hell out of it, plus the heatsoak that K series gets for the sake of fuel economy and emissions, the 87 octane gas isn't enough sometimes, we're probably gonna lose a lot of 1.5T Civic due to people straight up detonating gas in their engine, the old K24 might spark knock and make rattly noises, but it would never detonate and hurt itself.

luv me honda
Had a little mishap with the upgraded clutch master. When I ordered it from Hybrid Racing I accidentally bought the K swap one that's also compatible with my TSX and not the TSX specific one with the shorter rod. So I neglected to swap out the rod with the one I took out of the car. It was fine for a while until Wednesday when the clutch would start slipping with enough throttle making me think the clutch was going out. Nope, that was fine. I had thrown away the old CMC so I went to AutoZone and got the cheapest one they had for $53. Not too much to fix my mistake and now it drives perfect.
>>27932527Also my LEDs from SuperBrightLEDs arrived so I put them in the map lights and the dome light. Really helps out the interior lighting.
>>27932530I love the temperature of those LEDs, I'll have to swap my CM's dome light with LED if it ever goes out, it's somehow working with the door open after 21 years.
>>27932530Also put some in the side markers to mesh with the LED headlight temp better, then in the trunk and license plate lights. This will probably be the last of the stuff I do until the cold days finally arrive. That's when I'll get ready to do the VTC and possibly the timing chain. >>27932537It really woke things up in there. Both my map light bulbs were burned out but the dome in the rear was still working. It being in the very back of the car really didn't help much. Highly recommend SuperBrightLEDs. All 8 of those bulbs only ran me $45 shipped.
>>27932542Aside from the clutch scare, I'm loving this car. It's nice to have both my best car purchases ever at the same time. It's wild what changed with Honda between 1993 and 2004. I feel like cars have gotten worse overall since the 2000s. Only thing I want from a new car is radar cruise. https://streamable.com/0s0jjw
>>27932551>It's wild what changed with Honda between 1993 and 2004The jump in technology between something like a CB7/EG and a CL chassis is absolutely ridiculous, not only do you get all the benefits of a K series, but the whole car runs on a CANBUS system, sticking the key in the door and holding it in the unlock position to drop the windows on the EX CM was quite fancy for the time, I actually have more memories as a kid riding in CB7s of friends and my grandfather's EG8, but when the family got a CM, that was it, the car felt so substantial and new, that my grandmother stopped buying cars, and I just ended up driving a CM because it was that great of a car.
>>27932558Yeah the 00s is definitely the sweet spot for cars. Not lacking in power and not overly complex to repair. They certainly aged the best. Even when I got the EG way back in 2014 when it was 20 years old it felt substantially older back then than the 20 year old TSX feels now. It's wild that the TSX is only 5 years away from being eligible for a permanent antique car tag. The fit and finish is no different than my roommate's 2020 Toyota Sienna. The EG really feels of its time. It didn't even have a passenger mirror factory. I love it for what it is, though. It's the bread winner because the high octane K series only gets 22MPG city. kek>pic related, chassis is probably well past 500k since the cluster has been replaced a f ew times
>>27932570>the TSX is only 5 years away from being eligible for a permanent antique car tagFuck that's bizarre, because K24 Hondas don't feel classical, their horsepower is still "just enough" where something like a the first D15s with that 76HP were really struggling when they were newer cars, also due to people being so fucking poor, a lot of people are dailying CMs and all kinds of 2000s shit well past their normal car lifecycle out of necessity, I never thought in a million years as a kid that I would ever do some boomer shit like fix up and restore a car, and that a new car would always be better, but here I am fixing up the CM and eventually painting it because it's better than anything you can buy.
>>27932576There's still so many CM Accords and same era Camrys on the road I almost expect my state to change the rules for antique plates because they just don't ever quit. Both those 2.4 engines are absolutely perfect for just eating up miles for decades and there's no complex tech to fail. Just the weird head unit climate control combos they loved to do but that's been fully solved by the aftermarket. Why even get a 2024 Civic Si when it makes the same power with a turbo and low displacement as my 2004? Just adding complexity that will cost a lot to repair down the line. I can see the base 2.0 NA 10th and 11th gens lasting longer over time.
>>27932595They might have to change how old a car has to be for antique platesin order to prevent people from getting around inspections, I know in some states that have inspection, it's not uncommon for someone to take a clapped the fuck out, oil burning BB6 Prelude that's falling apart and would never pass any emissions or saftey inspection, and apply for classical plates as if they take it out for parades when they're really just dailying their beat ass car.
>>27932608It's actually wild how few clean Preludes there are. They're almost exclusively driven by the trashiest people. Pretty sad because I really like them. The H22 is the daddy of the K series after all. >tfw want to get a second D16 and second K24 to freshen up and keep my aging shitboxes on the road so I don't have to do an engine out for basic maintenance in on a 2030s car
>>27932625>It's actually wild how few clean Preludes there areThe scarcity of them is really crazy, there's only about 50,000 5th gens that exist, and we have no idea how many of them are no longer with us, that's why it was so cool when I went to Honda headquarters in Torrance and saw their 2K mile BB6 they keep for preservation. You might have to start stockpiling parts to keep these things on the road, the K series aftermarket is amazing, but the powers that be don't want us driving reliable cars forever.
>>27932634Forgot pic but this is probably the nicest BB6 you're gonna find.
>>27932634There's a house I deliver to semi regularly that has a silver BB6 but it's very obviously broken down with flat tires. But it's all one color and looks like it can be fixed up. I'm just too autistic to ask about it. lmao>tfw all these government regulations is making even Toyota take a dip in reliabilityForcing turbos into normal cars was a mistake. We must return to monke.
>>27932637>Forcing turbos into normal cars was a mistakeI think the normies in the future are gonna be crying to own a car like the CM/CL Accord that might need stupid maintenance items sometimes, but at least fucking runs everyday without blowing up, my mom thinks I'm a fucking idiot for fixing everything on an old CM, but I know it's better than anything out there except maybe the port injected K20C non turbo engine Honda sells brand new currently, all these turbo cars are gonna be a nightmare when they go shitbox mode, the normies have a fit when CMs need their control arms done or the mounts, brakes tires, leaks etc, try needing all that on a 1.5T Civic that has got coolant going into the cylinders when the engine is shut off, you may as well throw your damn car away at that point.
>>27932642Yeah that's my biggest fear. Normies absolutely cannot take care of turbocharged economy cars. That's a big reason why the late 00s to early 10s Chevy Cruze is basically an uncommon car already. I had a coworker nearly a decade ago need a turbo replacement when it wasn't even very old yet. I drove it with the bad turbo and it was so unbelievably slow that it was an actual danger on the road. If ICE cars get any more complex I honestly welcome the possibility of 400+ mile range EVs. We're back to the engine spaghetti we left behind in the 80s, but far worse.
>>27932650>That's a big reason why the late 00s to early 10s Chevy Cruze is basically an uncommon car already.Kek they really are, and Hondas 1.5T is next in line to get trashed, you cannot do insanely long oil change intervals in turbo cars like the normies are doing, there's already dealer techs vids of people with gunked up valvetrains and underboost code because the turbo is worn out from neglect, it's not even a good idea to do excessive oil intervals on reliable ass K series, but at least it can stay running because it's so big and stupid compared to an engine with crazy GDi and boost.
So glad I figured out what resistor to use with my VCM Eliminator. I was getting 25 MPG on my way to work before I got into the city. And it's keeping my engine healthier. What kind of black magic is this?
>>27932047>5%wilding. I went with whatever is legal in Texas all around. I could've gone 5% in the rear windows but then I can't see SHIT.>tfw dropped off type R because A/C is acting up.I have Hondacare at least. Downside is the advisor says don't expect to hear anything until Tuesday. He's an advisor who used to be at a different location and helped me out with my old Si and warrantied a clutch almost no questions asked which was nice.

>>27946083In exactly the same way my lawn mower will outlast my Honda and will be cheaper to repair
>>27946913I'd fuck with it if the maintenance was done, my 168,000 mile CM has like 400,000 miles worth of repairs because it's so old.
>>27946919Based on the description, the owner has only had it for a year. Couple that with the fact the car is in a subdivision in the ghetto part of town tells me that this guy has only driven it until the O2 sensor and a/c compressor failed. I should probably pass on it due to the unknown aspect of owning such a high mileage vehicle. It’s also a K24 manual – FUCK!
>>27946924>O2 sensor and a/c compressor failedThat's nothing out of the ordinary for CMs, I've had evap solenoid failure, knock sensor failure, A/C compressor start to act up and not cool the evaporator right all kinds of stupid shit with age, if the K24 engine has fine compression and it's not shooting oil smoke, I'd say get it, even if you take a total loss and only drove the car for a year because it's shit, we're talking about $1600, that's amazing.
Friend of a friend is planning on selling his ‘04 Civic for $1k once he manages to fix the issues with the car. It occasionally goes into limp mode but it can be avoided if you start the car and then restart it from neutral. It also has overheating issues from prolonged driving and/or sitting in traffic. It sounds risky and I’m aware that’s not a good Civic generation, but since I just need temporary transportation until I can get a trucking job and save enough for a better car, I’m almost tempted to get it.
>>27947231Overpriced sex
>>27946913>>27946924>It’s also a K24 manual – FUCK!Worth, even if it's dying. Those are rare as fuck; you could pull the trans to recoup most of what you paid for the car lol. ECU is worth a fair bit too esp. if it's a 2005+. AC compressor is a bitch job though, expensive to have done, but if you can live without AC then you're golden. Air-fuel sensor can probably be replaced DIY but i've never tried it, so YMMV, it might need a torch to remove.>>27947202transmission/ECU problem. 1k is not a great deal for something that might randomly shit the bed but it's better than walking

>>27946914Have you considered getting an m mover? But be careful you may not be able to go back to a regular mover
bros, this subauwu done me a frighten :[It happened right after I left Autozone. I am finally selling the Honda after 4 years so I bought some thing to clean up the headlights and get all $1000 worth (after spending almost $10k in repairs). I get to this place and when I'm ready this old lady's on her phone and doesn't notice me for a few minutes. I'm a patient guy so I give her some time to remember she's supposed to be working. Then another worker walks in. "Do you need help, sir?", she asks. This new one is young, thin, and pretty. Fair skinned, with blonde hair and tattoos. Wow. Not a lot of people like that in these jobs. Instead of answering I just nod like a sperg and the original worker in front of me does her job. I wonder what it'd be like to have a cute wagie girlfriend like that. Venting to each other about work, going through rough financial times together, eating junk food as a "treat" on the weekends. How much more bearable would my own peasant life be. Maybe I wouldn't have multiple bans and "alt" accounts, with no actual main account, across multiple platorms. And maybe I wouldn't have thousands of screenshots of random things & fanarts of fictional characters. Sigh.
>>27950814Change the fluid you kook.
>>27950785While I haven’t had any negative experiences with purchasing a car, I just become less trusting about people selling cars online, especially after the pandemic hit which completely fucked the car market. You used to be able to get a dependable car for less than $2,000 and may only need to address one or two issues on a car before you can be comfortable with driving it – I’m not saying that all cars sold for that much were guaranteed problem-free, but there was a good chance that any car being sold for over $1,000 will be drivable and anything near or over $2,000 might be problem-free.These days, you can’t be sure that any car being sold for less than $3k-$5k will be dependable, and the lesser the selling price, the more problems the vehicle will likely have, whether it’s the number of issues or the severity of the issue(s) the car has.
Chipfag posting, i broke my ghetto rigged debugger and possibly the ECU too. It still responds to OBD2 requests but I can't read memory anymore. Too lazy to build another debugger and buy another ECU right now.The HIM/HDS thing uses a custom protocol separate from OBD2, it has a special unlock sequence that I can't quite figure out how to do. It has special timing requirements and a TON of internal states. I know the password but the sequence and timing isn't readily apparent. The memory-accessing, VIN-rewriting, immobilizer-disabling backdoor i humblebragged about last thread is behind ANOTHER initialization sequence with ANOTHER password and ANOTHER giant state machine. I may have to buy an ebay HDS tool to figure out how this all works. The automatic logic is pure spaghetti code. Most of the 1000+ tables in ROM are for the A/T, and about a third of all memory is consumed by the A/T logic. There is a simple variable that disables all the A/T operation (and the CELs it throws) though, so running an M/T swap or a modded A/T with an aftermarket TCU is possible with just a reflash. Good enough for me, especially considering the A/T logic in the OEM ECUs is known for shifting rough and lugging the engine. If I ever get around to modding my CM i'm just gonna roll my own TCU and disable the automatic logic on the OEM one.The CAN bus is dead-simple: The ECU receives only 2 PIDs (500 and 212) and sends only 5 PIDs (200, 300, 392, 524 and 548). Each PID only carries 8 bytes of fixed data. The send ones carry MAP, RPM, intake temperature, vehicle speed, the check engine light, the automatic shifter position, etc.>>27950824>crushing on an autozone deskiebeen there done that, she has a boyfriend 100% lol. any perceived flirting is just them being "nice".don't get hung up on not having some hypothetical ideal relationship, because that doesn't exist in 2024. no woman is going to "fix" you or improve your life, they really only take away from it.

yo, i’m at the end of my lease on a 2022 accord 1.5 turbo and they’re asking $18k to buy it out. i’ve had it for 2 years, no issues and it’s in decent shape.question is, should i just buy it out or say fuck it and move on? the cvt hasn’t been shit so far, and it’s been reliable. gas mileage is solid too.
Holy fuck...It can't be... it fucking can't be...But it's white... and it's got the same 7-spoke Vision wheels as the ones I got from Discount Tires...It's a long shot, but what if... what if that's my precious CM5? And if it is, why would it have the 03-04 taillights, if it's an 05? The tree didn't hit smash the lights, so it's either a different Accord or it's the one I had and either the current owner wanted different taillights or something happened during his ownership that required replacing the lights. It sort of explains why the emissions haven't been renewed -- the owner doesn't want to fix whatever is keeping it from passing emissions, so it's been sitting on his lot ever since.I couldn't turn around to get a closer look and confirm it because I just got a new car and needed to take it home as soon as possible to replace its coolant temperature sensor.

Still dreaming of getting a clean RSX-S or importing a JDM DC5 though. If not, I'll just keep saving for an M4 or something along those lines next year.

New car. >2001 Honda Civic EX>287,000 milesGot it because a friend offered it to me for $800 and I saw that as a better deal than getting any other car from a stranger, who may or may not withhold information about any issues the car has.The car did start to overheat soon after I got off the interstate, after an hour drive, but allowing it to cool down for an hour allowed me to drive the rest of the way home without any further trouble.I don’t imagine this car will last very long in its current condition, but I need to car to last me at least a month so that I can go to truck driving school and start earning 3 times as much money as I’m currently earning, and I’ll be able to save up for a better car… but at the same time, another friend, which I life with, has ideas for swapping the D17A2 for a K series – perhaps a K24 – so that idea is in the air. I’m not crazy about the idea because I just see this Civic as nothing more than a decaying shitbox, but it would be interesting to work on that after I get a trucking job.The issues the car has should be manageable.
>>27959727Based $800 car, I would just repair it as needed and drive until the engine is too shit to go anymore.

Ugh I simply don't have 2k to spend on repairs this month (timing belt and brakes and spark plugs) and I'm reading online on the crosstour forums and everyone's saying it HAS to be done between 75k or 7 years and my car's older than that and at higher mileage. >>27962761OK
>>27962765Yeah I really hope so.
>>27962795You'll be fine Anon, Honda has a spec for what an OEM part should be, and manufacturers of whatever it may be, such as brakes, a set of struts, etc will make parts that behave like OEM, your clutch pedal feel should be perfectly like new, and EXEDY isn't a cheap brand either, it's gonna work like how it's supposed to.
>>27962803Thanks for reassuring me Anon. Can't wait to have it fixed.

Bad news: hit a deer at 40mphGood news: only visual damage is the cracked bumper, exploded grille, and a/c condenser being bent.
>>27964334That's good news it's drivable, Anon. is the radiator support okay? 10th gen Civics are so fuckin beefy, the thing appears to have just taken superficial body damage and needs a condenser with evac and recharge.
>>27964341Yea, rad support looks mostly fine. Did take a bit more effort to shut the hood so that's tweaked a little bit
>>27964344>Did take a bit more effort to shut the hood so that's tweaked a little bitThat's totally fine, the unibody of a Civic is amazing at how it takes forces hitting it and the way it deforms, the whole front end of your Civic can pulled whatever way they want with the car clamped down with lasers to get the front clip squared up like it was.
>>27960698>>27960472>>27960691its fine. probably just some threads off your pan
>>27964334consider yourself lucky, it could have went way way worse m8
>>27964368Oh I know. not the first time I've killed a deer with my car.>>27964352Here's hoping they can redo the panel gap on the passenger side fender right near the hood, it's visibly larger than the driver's side.
>>27964341the hood and fenders are generally adjustable just by loosening their mounting fasteners and moving them around. it just depends on if whoever is doing the body work gives enough shits to get it right.
>>27964395The hood and fenders are easy, but the car has a radiator support and aprons that hold the fenders on, and they're all welded to each other, and they shift side to side pretty easy when the car hits something, that's why even if the body panels get painted and go on easily, you've gotta make sure the unibody of the Civic is in spec with the laser measurements compared to factory.
>>27964400yea it's hard to get that back exactly where it was after it's been compromised. a car that's hit something will never look the same afterwards to someone who has a keen eye. If you find someone who cares enough to spend a bunch of time with the frame puller you can get it back to stock but it takes time and time is money. these body shops want two things, the wrecked cars out of their lot, and the insurance money.
>>27964406>these body shops want two things, the wrecked cars out of their lot, and the insurance money. It's true, it's a shame you've gotta fight with and damn near sue your insurance company that you're paying premiums for to get a shop that does a good job. These people do such a poor job, that the idea of driving a nice new car with a high value scares me, because it's so hard to total, the insurance company is gonna pay a direct repair shop to do a half ass job as fast as possible, and then you end up driving a car that's no different than a rebuilt title car, except you pay more for it, what a fucking nightmare.I honestly don't get how people with nice cars even take it out everyday with all the shit that can happen to it and fuck your life up.
>>27964411the body guys deal with a ton of cars every week and to them it's just another civic, maybe it's the 7th civic that week. they don't know anything about who even owns it, that's the front desk guy's job. there's no personal connection in business anymore, it's all compartmentalized. it's the downward spiral of western capitalism. enshittification.I daily classic hondas and just try to drive as defensively as I can, but I know one of these days I'll get clobbered by a jeet trucker who thinks he can drive as recklessly as he did back on his jeet-cycle back in india. I drive like 300mi round trip almost every day for work. I watch those fuckers doze off down the road in front of me and do skibidi lane changes with no signals like they're swimming in traffic in a BMW.I just hope that if one takes out my car it takes me out along with it so that I don't have to deal with the bs that comes with getting wrecked in a tiny car and surviving despite having no airbags and questionable automatic seatbelts.
>>27964465>I just hope that if one takes out my car it takes me out along with it so that I don't have to deal with the bs that comes with getting wreckedSame, I couldn't imagine having to find another CM Accord cause it got wrecked and having to fix all the things that CMs need because it's leaking and broken.
just bought an otherwise clean 6th gen accord but the power steering fluid leaks out of everywhere it touches, i'm talking out of every fitting, the entirety of the right side of the engine bay is SOAKED in ps fluid, which includes the accessory belts and possibly the timing belt, i was told that it also leaks from the steering rackhow serious is this? anyone have any experience how much it costs to fix, what needs to be done etc. on full lock the belt driving the ps pump visibly slips and fails to turn the pump pulley at the engine rpm, and the alternator belt squeaks sometimesalso do these cars take ATF as ps fluid i hope they do because i just added a bunch of it
>>27965351Seals are worn.Lucas P/S Stop Leak may help but I would either have the seals or hoses replaced.
>>27965360how expensive would that becan i drive the car like this for a few weeks? im very tight both on time and on money currently
>>27965351The power steering pump and rack are likely shot, the power steering rack is a subframe drop job, I paid $1500 for such a job in 2019, now that's a dealer level, fuck you up the ass type of price, might be a little cheaper elsewhere, but it's gonna be a good bit of money, also a PS pump will run you about $300 labor if done at a dealer+the cost of your PS pump, I like to give you the high end of the prices so that it won't hurt so hard when you price around yourself.>>27965368Lel I have driven with a power steering leak for 2 years when I was broke, you're gonna be fine Anon, just make sure your Accord engine itself has a full oil level as well as your power steering fluid because the front of an Accord is very heavy to steer manually.
>>27965370thank you brother, the engine itself is very healthy despite being at 300k kilometers, minor oil leaks are there but the oil level doesnt really go down by much if at alli was concerned mostly about the health of the belts, like i said they are soaked in oil and squeakthe AC and alternator still work flawlessly, but the timing belt still concerns me since the F20 is an interference engine as far as i knowthe heavy steering is not an issue, i just dont want the pump to run without fluid in it and possibly get damaged, parts for this model are rare and very expensive in my cuntry
>>27965380wrong thread ahmed
>>27965379>minor oil leaks are there but the oil level doesnt really go down by much if at allThat's extremely based, I think you may have a car worth fixing up good since it's not burning oil, my personal Accord was shit, oil leaking out of the old seals, and power steering leaking, but the thing kind earned the right to live and get fixed up because it doesn't burn oil and never broke.
>>27965389i'm definitely thinking of a near full restoration of the car when i have the time and moneyevery part on it is original except the front right fender and the hood, the interior is clean except some tears in the leather, and the body is rust free but the paint is in pretty bad conditionthe F20 is a legendary engine, mine is the F20B5 with the SOHC VTEC 145 hp which is pretty rare and comparatively underpowered but its still fun to drive with the manual trannydouble bones front, multilink rear, just an absolutely perfect car in almost every waythank you BASED honda
>>27965403>rust free but the paint is in pretty bad conditionThat's absolute fantastic Anon, my car is also completely destroyed on the paint but the actual body is like new condition without any rust otherwise and I plan to repaint it since it's mechanically 100%, and you've got the manual like I don't have, that's a super cool car worth fixing, even if it seems people don't give a shit about it, an old double wishbone Accord is just about the best Honda had to offer from 1985-2012 and will probably be the best they have to offer from here on out.
Anyone drive an 11th gen Si? Are they as soulless as they look? Need a new daily
>>27965408the 6th gen accords are fantastic both on specs and interior-exterior wise, i wish they were not plagued with the auto tranny problems, hope yours is fine

Owning the worst gen Civic is actually good news, as long as yours keep running.Pull-A-Parts has more 7th gen Civics on their lot than all the other Civics they have, so I can cheap out on parts.I desperately need a sun visor that isn’t fucked and I’d rather not spent $60 on a new pair.
>>27965411Mine is a 2004 with the first 5 speed automatic they ever did, it still works perfect after all the time, all I do is change the fluid every year and drive it around, the 4 cylinder wasn't known to blow the transmission up, usually people just throw the entire car away due to leaks and then go finance another car, which I wish they wouldn't, because you can squeeze another decade out of an old Honda just by fucking fixing it,

does rebuilt title means much on a eg and ek hatch?
>>27965351make sure it's not just the pump. i don't see racks themselves leaking on Hondas very often. Oil splatter all over the accessories tells me it's leaking from the pump or reservoir. Leaks from the high pressure hose/line are common, especially where the pressure switch is. It is also common for the non-pressurized oil return hoses that go from the reservoir, to the cooler, and from the pump to get rock hard and leak everywhere.do not use ATF as power steering fluid, do not use stop leak, you will ruin the rack if it wasn't already. Use Honda PS Fluid only. Remove the P/S belt if you do not want to worry about it.>>27965379Your belts sound like they're already degrading from the P/S oil, so plan to replace those soon. Your timing belt should be shielded from the oil as long as the cover is in place. The F20 is interference but in reality, the overlap where the valve lift exceeds the surface of the head is very small. It is common to break timing belts on these and be able to put a new one on and the engine will run fine. When you get into the V6 engines, it's more common to bend valves with a broken timing belt.If you care to fix your small engine oil leak, check the cam seal.>>27966068not really. depends on when it was totaled. these days, those things will get totaled out by insurance if you look at it for too long. usually crash damage on those is very cosmetic and only required a bumper or a door or something to fix, or they were vandalized and needed all the glass replaced. basically, as long as the alignment is correct (put it on a rack, don't eyeball it, caster issues = problems ranging from a bent LCA to a bent subframe), and the trunk pan is not compromised, i wouldn't worry about it.

tl;dr are used 2017-2018 FK7 CVT Civics averaging around 31k miles with prices ranging from 10-13 grand good to go? Mostly CVT.I have heard a lot of mixed feelings/anecdotes about Honda's CVT, which apparently seems to be ok past a certain year.It will be used as a beater and the occasional long expressway drives. One specific thing I plan on using it is for driving to ski resorts during winter and sleeping inside it.I don't need the car to be fun, that's what the bike is for.I just need the car to be reliable and comfortable to drive, and it needs to be a Civic.
>>27966068>does rebuilt title means much on a eg and ek hatch?Check for frame damage. Replacing body panels is no biggie, frame damage can't really be fixed all the way.
Have any of you used the main relay replacement/killswitch addon from JDI? I'm thinking of getting it for my shitbox Accord.I'm assuming that if someone is breaking into an early 90s Honda they already know where the relay is going to be, and they'll know to check there for a killswitch if the car doesn't start, but my thought is it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the oldass relay anyway (and maybe that extra minute of frustration would be enough to make the dude give up and go pick someone else's car). This would kill two birds with one stone and I wouldn't have to come up with my own wiring solution to add a killswitch myself (I know I could make one with like fifty cents worth of components or whatever, but I'm ok with paying for something that is professionally made instead sometimes). For the record my ideal anti-theft device would be an always-on multi-camera setup and a hidden switch that would, when active, immediately deploy the driver's airbag whenever the ignition gets power, mainly because although it would be incredible expensive and inconvenient for me I think it would be worth it because it would be funny as fuck. Imagine some dipshit tweaker hunched over the wheel in the middle of the night taking an airbag out of nowhere directly to the torso/face. It would be comedy gold.Anyway, the JDI kit, good idea or bad idea?

>>27968730Mine isn't leaking, i got a code p2646 which went away and was replaced by p2647. I'm going by the honda service manual and going through the steps. I can't do all of them because i don't have an HDS, but i just ordered one from china
>>27968696I was in the same boat, I found a newer Civic at the junkyard in town with nice oem Honda wheels on it that I thought would look good on my '92 Accord, got excited, but then found that the fourth was missing. I have been keeping an eye on craigist and facebook marketplace for wheels for a while though, and yesterday I scored a beat up set of 17" Motegi MR7s for a hundred bucks. The tires were flat in the original ad, but it would be nice if they are able to hold air (at least for a while) since they still have some tread left on them. I think they will clean up nicely.I had to pass over so many good deals for used wheels over the past couple of months because muh 4x114.3 so finding a set of 4 luggers for a c-note was a great way to start my morning.
And it's cleanWish it was something easy
How the FUCK am i supposed to get multimeter leads down there to check continuity? Abs delete?
how much for a k24 swap for a shop to do it all?
>>27969070How deep are your pockets?
>>27969073how much we talking here? ballpark?
>>279690968 hours worth of labor, minimum.
>>27969070How well supported and documented is the swap? Does it require custom fabrication or are there kits for your platform? Its going to cost you over 10k at a shop
>>27969101>>27969123i could technically afford it but i rather not. im guessing the reason people selling their k24 swap is because they got in over their head?
>>27969181Ever since I’ve made plans to purchase this Civic from one friend, another friend (who I live with) is wanting to swap the D17 with a K24, as well as do a manual conversion. I’m sure with help from him and his Civic specialist buddy it’s doable, but I don’t see this actually happening. I only got the car because I was in a desperate need for wheels after losing my Prizm and needed transportation that will last me long enough to get me through truck driving school, but once I finish and get a trucking job that will allow me to save $2,000/month for a better car, I don’t think I’m going to keep this car. I am well aware that it’s the worst generation Civic that anyone could get and I do not think it will be worth attempting to improve it by slapping a more powerful, reliable motor and transmission into it.Once I have the money, I’m upgrading to a CM.
>>27970091Of all words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these:>upgrading to a CM.get a TSX, thank me later. much more durable cars
>>27970102I don’t see how they’re any different, powertrain-wise. The only difference is one is the true Honda Accord and the other is actually a Honda Inspire.
>>27970111>don’t see how they’re any different, powertrain-wise.under piston oil squirters, better engineering all around, girthier transmission clutches. one true accord with no cost cutting
>>27970111God damn I miss the white 2005 CM pizza car so much
>>27970500If it’s still sitting in Cartersville next year, I may see about getting it back.
Does anyone have any idea how i can check this vtc oil control whatsit with a multimeter without removing it from the engine? The honda service manual says to test it while the ignition is om but it's stuff to the side of all the abs shit right near the side of the body
>>27970190>Accord born out of the American fuel crisis>CM is built with a big low compression 2.4L to run on garbage 87 octane fuelCM is practically peak Accord, they were never "hot" or high performance cars, The 192HP Accords we have no are Honda kinda going back to their roots of slow ass economy cars, the Accord is just really damn luxurious now.
FK7 anon here, minor update regarding damage/repairs. Visual inspection from the body shop confirmed what I could see (just bumper/grill/aircon condenser), there might be other damage that isn't visible right now that might be found when work is started. Next open slot is in 6 weeks but that's fine, the car is driveable and I don't need a rental currently.
>>27970975Hope things turn out well for you.
Somewhat busy weekend coming up.Need to replace my driver window regulator, replace the coolant recovery tank when I flush the system, and install a nonfouler to get rid of that pesky P0420.

I'm thinking about getting an old civic as my first car. Are there any years in particular I should look out for? Probably gonna go for a manual if possible.
>>27971542Get a 2006 model at the very oldest to as new as you can possibly afford, the 2006 onward have timing chain engines, they're reliable cars, and the prices are low.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMYUKeYniHQ>press keyfob against ignition buttondoes the key have some sort of nfc key? does the ignition button really have an nfc reader?
>>27971647It probably is some NFC type shit, wouldn't surprise me for a 2022 model, a crappy old Honda from 2003 has chips in keys that can talk to the ECU, but you've gotta stick the key in so it's not wireless.
>>27971548How boring>>27971542Honda stopped making good cars in the early 00s so depending on your mechanical ability work backwards from an ek through eg and ef/d and pick out on you like the look of the bestAll of them will have their own issues but the aftermarket has evolved enough that there is almost complete interchangeability with mechanical parts thanks to swaps, and the community will also most likely be willing to help you out with anything you need
>>27970527move shit to fit your hands in there unbolt your body to engine mount strap, so you can squeeze your hand in there.if you need to, unbolt your abs pump bracket to afford you some wiggle room for the brake lines.idk what it is but I'm assuming a k24 in an accordhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bal8MsRfEVgat that point, use pinned wires(that you can then use with your dmm) to fit on the pins in the vtc solenoid connectorI'm just assuming you shouldn't and/or dont want to remove the solenoid becuase they can leak.personally, I'd risk it for the sake of convenience.
>watching freezing temp cold starts>CM starts up without any top end rattle as if it's a warm summer day in CaliforniaWhat secret sauce did Honda put in these damn things? a 2008 Accord onward and 9th gen Civic Si with the K24Z, and even the K24W in the 2013-2017 Accord would rattle on a cold start in warm weather even when they were newish cars.Doesn't make any sense, I have never seen a CM rattle the VTC on a cold start, even the clapped out ones with neglected maintenance cold start beautifully unless the bottom end is spun or somethinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5PQ_cviljUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d80I1J9fZ74
Timing belt, brakes and sparkplug on Monday. Tire to rotation on Friday. All my money will be gone after this so I'm gonna spend the rest of the month cruising.

Man, this will be my first time replacing a timing belt since the days I had my CB7.

>>27972968Aw a D17, still glad it's being done>>27973016Yeah there's definetly cost cutting going on, look how immediately after the CM the intake manifold is plastic, it worked but it was obviously made to save weight or costI'm shocked your CM still runs after the previous owner clearly didn't change oil or do anything, it's that good of a car.
>>27973066>I'm shocked your CM still runs after the previous owner clearly didn't change oil or do anything, it's that good of a car.it was immaculately maintained by an autistic family member of mine. seems it was just assembled wrong to begin with. knock was audible at 100k, it's at 270k right now, still clattering away. everything else works perfectly so i'm not upset at all, i'll just have to give it some bearings for its 300th birthday.
>>27973075>270kThat's kinda impressive, I'm right about to roll 169K, I'm checking the oil every month and it's been staying the same, fingers are crossed with the engine stays in good shape like this with the oil changes I'm doing.
>>27972979cb7 is the goat
>>27972250I figured out a way to do it I think. It's for my tsx, but i went to the junkyard and found a CM accord and cut the connector from the wiring harness.I'm going to attach some leads to the little nubbin of wire left over and plug it in.
>>27972250And really the only thing to move is the abs which has hard lines and would be a double pain in the ass. I really wanted to avoid that if possible. My donor cm, had a huge rear accident but fair condition otherwise
>>27973714>cm, had a huge rear accident but fair condition otherwiseKek only way to put a CM in the junkyard because the piece of shit's still fucking running, I joke about them driving themselves to the junkyard under their own power because they often do, it's either wrecked or needs repairs and the owner doesn't wanna do it.

>>27931906>1993 Honda Civic LX>ECU capacitor kit arrived today>Instructions say "47uf 10v ( Upgrade 16v cap )">47uf 16v replaces the 10v versionWhat's the upgrade, exactly? Seems kinda dangerous using higher voltage stuff for no clear reason. Is this TSB material or something?
>replaced battery>replaced worn wheel studs and lug nuts on one wheel after inspecting the brake cable, realizing it’s worn>ran codes for ABS and SRS light – need a new driver wheel speed sensor>replaced the cooling fan switch – took forever for the fan to kick on and it wasn’t until I revved the engine at 2,000 rpm for a minute that it finally came onThat’s it for today.
>>27974649the voltage spec of a cap is just the maximum voltage it can tolerate. it could be an "upgrade" because the 10v is occasionally overcharged or charged right up to the 10v maximum, causing it to fail sooner. electronics designers usually like to have some headroom with capacitors, so they will usually over spec them. back in the late 80's and early 90's we were still trying to figure out capacitor selection for a long life. A lot of electronics from that era fail due to cheap or under-specced caps, especially in old CRT TVs and monitors.
I wanna do a TPMS delete, which one of the wires leading to the TPMS module do I need to short with a resistor in order to permanently disable the TPMS light?
>>27975094some info might help you get a reply
Did a little night driving in the rain, last night, and discovered how shitty it is to drive in this Civic. I’m considering improving my experience by converting my headlights, but also wanting the headlights to look similar the factory lights, as close as possible. What do you think?
>>27974819So besides the soldering iron, solder, and flux, what should I have ready before replacing the leaky capacitors? One guy said in a video to use nail polish to clean up the leakage (I think he meant nail polish _remover_), then use an unspecified clearcoat on the side of the board that the pins stick through.Just making sure I'm ready before diving into this.
>>27975893have some tweezers to pull up the components and desolder braid is good to have but not necessarily a must. if your caps are in fact leaking, be very careful not to pull up the traces with the iron, the capacitor juice is corrosive. If you do pull up a trace, you can solder a strand of copper wire to the remains of the trace and bring the other end of the copper strand to the component that it's supposed to attach to.
This is my finest feat of engineering. We're all gonna WAGMI bros
And we have continuity. The oil control solenoid is good and next i have to test for continuity along the wiring harness from the solenoid connector to the ecu plug Really hope i don't need to do major surgery on my wiring harness
>>27975663Are the headlight enclosures yellow or foggy? Just polishing them and getting the more expensive halogen bulbs will really improve your light outputA restoration kit is like 20 dollars and even mild hazing/oxidation kills your light output.
Anyone have any info on/know someone who can tune a 3 stage d series? Have a d15z7 with both vtec solenoid, ecu and harness. Would like to use the engine, but i want to tweak each cam profile. Google returns very little.
>>27977087you should be able to find a basemap from the ecu that the engine was originally paired with. you might have to look on archive.org as a lot of websites that collected basemaps are now dead.there is also a good forum by the URL of pgmfi.org
>>27977125I'll look into that. From what ive seen, hondata doesnt like the ecu. I dont want to use a p28 or p72 and lose my low end e-vtec, but i'm adding a custom cam, port and polish and mill, metal headgasket and id like to supercharge it, but d series seems to like turbo more. I want to slightly adjust my vtec windows as well as general timing, but be able to keep vtec-e, reg and vtec.
>>27977142I did a little research and it looks like if you want to keep the maps stock and not touch it, a P2J ECU is what you want. Non-chippable though, you cannot tune this ECU.If you want to chip and tune, you need a P72 ECU (from GS-R Integra), you will wire one of the VTEC solenoids to the IAB output, and the other VTEC solenoid to the ECU's normal VTEC solenoid output, and tune from there.
>>27977167Ahhh so I have to ditch the ecu for sure then, thats a bummer. IAB shouldnt be awful to wire to, but how reliable is it?
>>27977181It should be fine, you'll just set the RPM you want it to engage/disengage at. I'm not entirely sure what the default state of the D15 3-Stage is without any of the solenoids powered. If the D15 is normally in "efficient" mode, you'll just set the solenoid to power on at the RPMs/Engine Load you want it to transition to "normal" mode.If the engine is normally in "normal mode" (requiring the solenoid to be powered to activate "efficient" mode) , you'll have to wire a normally closed relay for the solenoid so that it is powered when the ECU is below the threshold. You won't be able to have a separate fuel and ignition map for efficiency mode through, you're still limited to two maps.I've never tuned a 3-Stage VTEC engine so take what I say with a grain of salt, but this should be roughly how it goes based on what I know. The guys on pgmfi.org might be able to help you understand better once you're setup with your ECU.
>>27977196I'll go post over there and see what i can find. With 3 stage, 0-2500 rpm is handled by the vtec-e solenoid. Only 12 of 16 valves fire, giving it high mpg. At 2500-5000 it turns off, and cams are running in standard engine profile, like a regular engine before vtec. At 5000-7200rpm, it runs in actual vtec off solenoid 2.Im gonna use the standard ecu and run it normal for now. Its still the most powerful D series in standard form in vtec, and the high mpg low end is great. Once i know more on the ecu ill buy one.
>>27960117>>27962529Like the other guy said, OEM is Luk but Exedy is a great brand. I used Exedy for my 6th gen Civic Ex and my 07 Fit and I haven't regretted it. I think they included Nissin (Oem) bearings as well. Wouldn't be a bad time to make sure your rear main seal is also replaced, and get the clutch pedal bled
