>Let go of clutch
>BIKE IMMEDIATELY FUCKING DIES. Gves a small lurch forward.

It's not the kickstand thing either. What's wrong with this piece of shit? It's literally new off the showroom floor.

>>

So, you stalled it? Hold the clutch lever in to start it again. If it doesn't have a clutch switch and only has a neutral switch (which I doubt), shift it back into neutral and try again.
>>
>>27977145
Working as intended.

Are you 'letting go' of the clutch to where you can feel the clutch bite the geartrain and start to move the bike? There's something called the 'friction zone' which you have to master when starting from a stop. The friction zone of a clutch is like less than a finger's width of travel of the clutch lever on some bikes

Is the XR150L really bad? People say 'hondr' but then you go look at owner reviews and they trash talk it constantly. Not even for lack of power but lack of QC
>>
>>27977183
I mean, it's just a 3rd worlder bike.
>>
>>27977183
Probably Thai-built, and it's a very old design that even if built perfectly, won't be up to the standards of modern Japanese-built.
>>
>>27977189
>>27977188
So skip it and go an extra price point higher?
>>
>>27977190
Uhhh yeah, go with the bike that isn't basically a fucken pitbike.
>>
>>27977190
Unless you're a midget there is no reason to get an XR150L. If you're a regular manlet, the KLX230 is another air cooled tractor that's kinda short people friendly. Yamaha XT225/250 same thing. If you're like 5'10 or higher, get a water cooled 250-400. Dualsports/dirtbikes are insanely easy to work on so don't be afraid of buying used as long as it isn't a clapped shitpile.
>>
>>27977197
There's a good chance he's some thirdie.
>>
>>27977197
I'm manlet tier. So Maybe the 230 or the xt250 is what I should get.

>>27977201
nah, I just want a pitbike. I'd love a DRZ but damn, I feel like a tiny manlet next to one.
>>
>>27977208
>nah, I just want a pitbike
Then buy a used pitbike from marketplace for $200.
>>
>>27977208
If you can one-foot it without scooching too far off of the seat, that's good enough. They're quite lite. You can also buy a converted DRZ400SM, they have shorter forks and sit slightly lower. Take some foam out of the seat. Etc.

So, I got my hands on this Yamaha R7, huh? A "sportbike," they called it. More like a torture device. I'm talking about a machine that's slower than a snail on a hot plate, and about as comfortable as a medieval rack. It's like trying to race a tortoise in a marathon while wearing a straitjacket.

The thing looks like a racetrack refugee, all sleek and aerodynamic and whatnot, but it's got the soul of a grocery getter. It's like trying to squeeze a Ferrari engine into a Yugo. The acceleration is about as exciting as watching paint dry, and the handling is about as sharp as a butter knife.

I rode this thing out into the country, hoping to find some open road and let it rip. But it was more like a Sunday drive with grandma, only with a lot more pain. The seat is harder than a rock, and the riding position is so cramped, I felt like I was being squeezed into a vice. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

After a few miles, I started to feel like I was going to fall apart. My wrists were aching, my back was killing me, and my legs felt like they were going to fall off. It was like being tortured by a sadistic sadist.

So, if you're looking for a motorcycle that's about as exciting as watching grass grow, and about as comfortable as a medieval rack, then the Yamaha R7 is your huckleberry. But if you're looking for a machine that can actually get your blood pumping without causing you physical pain, you might want to look elsewhere

hello /dbt/ I want to get my first bike soon. Been looking at a few different options. Any thoughts or recommendations?
>1995 Suzuki GS500E - €1450
probably the safest and smartest option. but also the most boring .
>1988 Honda XBR500 - €1750
>1986 Suzuki GSX400E - €1950 (picrel)
classics. I think they both look very attractive but would also come with the downsides of owning an older vehicle
>2009 Kawasaki ER-6N - €3500
A lot more expensive. But also comes with the benefits of owning a newer vehicle. This particular example I'm looking at is in great condition with a lot of wear parts already recently replaced.

Mandatory GET A GN125 comment. It may be even more "boring" than the GS500E, but it will be even less expensive and more forgiving of your first-timer fuckery, and you can at least get it new if you live in the civilized world and not some flyover corn rectangle "state".

The oil pressure issue on my zx6r is in fact not fixed. It was, then started doing it again. I figured something out on it today though.
The oil pressure issue is load dependent, not rpms dependent. I took my gf out on it today, WOT in 3rd gear, oil light came on at 13k rpms. Before it was only really wanting to do it in 4th and 5th gear above 14k. Occasionally right at redline 3rd gear.
So the extra weight with her on there loaded it up more and made it do it a lot sooner. It HAS to be WOT or it will not lose pressure.

I have replaced: pressure switch, oil pump, pressure relief valve, cleaned pickup tube screen, changed oil, oem filter, disconnected crankcase vent from airbox (because WOT issue), verified correct oil level.
There is no bearing material in the old filter, I cut it open. No bearing material in the pan.
This is such a weird issue and not acting like a bearing clearance problem. I may try thicker oil, but I think it's time to tear it down and I might just get rid of it.

Even for my 1.85m tall 105kg wide Sicilian ass* fed on Argentine wheat gnocchi and beef meatballs, the GN's seat is a superior feat of Japanese engineering capable of comfortably carrying it to the end of the world and back. If you are young and it is your first bike, you may be younger and lighter than I am, and you may find it even comfier than I do.

Can you put Dual Sport spec tires on a Supermoto variant of a Dual Sport bike and ride it that way?

There's a Supermoto KLX 300SM that's cheaper at the local dealer than the KLX 300 regular, by a bunch, almost 2K off, and I did want a KLX 250
>>
>>27977443
If I remember rightly the klx300 just uses a relocation bracket for the brake caliper so you should be good. Worst case, you need to source an 11mm master cylinder and a dirtbike sized caliper, typically from somebody else's used dirt wheels version.

how do you know it's low on pressure? you need to tap into an oil port somewhere and verify with a gauge. you might just have faulty wiring too. kawasakis have been known to route their harnesses in spots that can rub or are too taught. it may just be the harmonics of the high load/rpm that's making it lose connection. test with a multimeter end-2-end of the circuit and pull on the harness near any visible pinch points and close to the connectors. these are steps that should be required before you did some of those repairs/mods.
>>
>>27977280
You need to make sure the oil pressure sensor is reading correctly. Maybe above a certain voltage it's fucking up.
However, if it only happens when you have a lot of weight on the bike and send it hard then you could probably sell it and make it someone else's problem.

>>
>>27977812

So I got my hands on a Venom Sportster, huh? A "Chonda" they call it. More like the best motorcycle money can buy. It's 250cc (Actually 229cc) of the best engine Honda ever made, only made by someone else because Honda doesn't make it anymore. It's seat is real leather, I don't know what it's real leather of, but it's very comfy. Orphans? Dogs? Either ways, it's Chinese "leather".

It looks like a bike straight out of a 50's greaser movie. All curves with circles. A classic featherbed chassis with chrome every. fucking. place. the little hands of the slave children who built it could spray silver rustoleum.

That's not the best part about it though, the best part is its price. Only $1800! It is literally one of the best bikes on the market that does 99% of what everyone wants it to do and 100% of what Harley riders do, which is cruise around town going 45 or less on five gears with a carbureted engine in 2024

Same. I love my zx6r despite the issues it's given me, but the 750 is the perfect bike. If I could only have one bike it would be a 750.

I've also potentially been thinking about a new 636 anniversary, despite the problems I had with mine. My bike has a long history of squid ownership over 18 years, so I can't necessarily attribute the problem to Kawasaki quality. At least I hope not, I have a zx14 as well.
I see more blown up 636's than any other bike though.

750 is the best bike, but the new 636 will have cruise control (I think) and it looks sick as fuck. Gsxr headlight since 2014 looks meh, but that's kind of a stupid thing to get hung up on

As you said, ONE of the best. THE absolute best for that is the Japanese designed, Chinkese manufactured, Argentine assembled and tested Suzuki GN125 licensed by Grupo La Emilia. The best 1972 design, now with top-of-the-nineties features like gear indicator, tachometer, both left AND right panel turn indicators, electronic spark control, and get this:
ANALOG FUEL GAGE
TRIP ODOMETER
Not that this piece of Japanese modernity, Chinese quality, and Argentine standards will make you worry about fuel; one twelve (YES TWELVE) liter tank* (the last two in reserve, yes it has a reserve) will last you THREE HUNDRED KILOMETRES before you switch to the reserve for ANOTHER SIXTY.
Yes you've heard me right, THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY KILOMETERS** of enjoying that beautiful black Genuine(R) Leather and Foam srat.

God I love my little japanigress. She's exactly what I deserve.

In freedom units,
* seven hundred and thirty and two cubes, each perfect south sides each of the barly cornes dry and rounde laid down ende to ende
** fourty two million and five hundred and nineteen thousand and seven hundred barly cornes yadda yadda

GN anon's yellow bike was probably bought used - the postal service in Brazil used them as service bikes and they were all yellow because of branding, iirc acquired in 2012-2013. So if I had to take a hunch it was probably from this year. Also here in hueland the bikes were sold as "Intruder" instead of GN so the plate on the bike is different, but it's the same bike.

Is there any price effect on bikes over winter? I really want to buy a low mileage tenere but I’m not sure if it’s better to do so before winter, during or right when the season starts.

I would expect dealers want to get rid of older models near season start but I’d also think more people usually sell their bike just before winter to avoid having to store and maintain it

if something is labelled "cafe racer" turn three hundred sixty degrees and walk away from it on sight. it's gonna be some chopped-up clapped-out retard project that probably won't ever ride right (cuz they cut the rear frame hoop) or run right (cuz they ditched the airbox for pods).

you might be referring to "standard" motorcycles - upright seating, mid or rear foot control positioning, no/minimal fairing. I think that's a good choice for a first bike and for short commuting. If you want something new (a good idea for your first bike so you can learn to ride rather than wrench) and want something with a "cafe racer" aesthetic, you could do worse than the Royal Enfield 650 twins.
>>
>>27977591
I miss the cool yamaha and honda v twin bikes so much. Also simple circle and square headlights were better than the bug shit.

Can you replace crank bearings on it? I know on a lil single cyl dirtbike it’s a big project but doable (split the case), but no idea how involved it is on something like a ninja.
Can’t go wrong with the gsxr750 I test rode one previous summer it felt good but like you I couldn’t love the look esp of its muzzle.
If you get a new zx6r im sure you know but they have a different power delivery. More power through the revs but the limiter is at like 14k so it’s less of a screamer. It is insanely fast of course but just a little different.
Throttle is touchy too, the decel cutoff is annoying as fuck

IMO it's because nearly every bike has (aesthetically) specialized into a niche and moved away from the platonic idea of "just A bike", which is one of the best ways a bike can look. if you don't like one of those niches you're SOL in most of the market

"cafe racers" have the timeless clarity of purpose of a UJM hidden underneath them and the children yearn for the A Bike

>>27978329
when I hear "cafe racer" I think: clip-on bars (bad ergonomics if you're in traffic or going slow), hard seats (miserable time if you're going further than the cafe), shitty reliability.

Are there specific bikes you're looking at? That'd help narrow things down

>clip on bars
idk what that means as I'm new to everything bike-related
>hard seats
that sounds like any bike problem and any rider's choice to customize with a new seat, isn't it
>>
>>27978368
clip-ons are very low-set handlebars that "clip on" to the front tubes of the bike. when set up right the idea is to let you really tuck into the bike to improve aerodynamics at high speed, but that's not very comfortable at low speeds or just cruising around (which sounds like what you want to do).

when NOT set up right (like on the vast majority of cafe racer projects) they don't let you tuck in but they also don't let you sit comfortably upward, leading to this horrible hunched posture where all the weight is on your wrists (bad for control and pretty painful) for no performance gain whatsoever.

while you can get a softer seat, for many older bikes they're very hard/expensive to get ahold of, and if the "customizer" has cut up the frame the stock seat might not fit at all.

Its even an issue on stuff thats oem like a cafe. W800 is as close to a cafe stock and people manage to make it even less comfortable going the rest of the way with it.
Cafe rebel is kinda ok though since the 250s design forces a posture thats more like a normal ujm when trying to mod it.

>>
>>27978440
I'd do lower rearsets too.

He can tuck his head into the tank, but he'd have his arms chicken-winged out, which ruins the ergonomics of the tuck and doesn't help much with aerodynamics. I can do the same with my normal upright bars, it's just not comfortable or tight (and the whole point of clipons is to make the tuck more sustainable and tighter).

>that sounds like any bike problem and any rider's choice to customize with a new seat, isn't it
Part of the stupid café ricer aesthetic is the low seat that turns out to have little to no filling and is thus hard as a rock. If you don't want a thin hard seat, you don't want cafe ricer aesthetics, and (as nobody really does cafe races anymore) you don't want a cafe rice bike.
Just literally get to your closest Suzuki Center and ask to sit on a brand new GN125.

>1990 Yamaha FZR400 with 1996 FZR 600 engine. Clean CA title in my name. I've owned it for 10 years and it has always run perfectly.

>This is the bike Yamaha should have built. It has the power of the 600 with the handling of the 400. This FZR400 has quite a few upgrades that makes it handles like a dream. Racetech fork springs, Fox rear shock, Stainless steel header and down pipe. R1 blue dot front brake caliber and SS lines, just to name a few.

So I replaced my clutch and then went on a couple rides not more than 400 miles total and I noticed it was slipping pretty bad after that long
I found that while I adjusted it well during the work, I guess it wore in and the cable was holding it open
I adjusted it again but the grab point is all the way at the last few mm, though it was kinda like that at first when I replaced it too
Did I fuck it up

DBT, I have the need for speed.
Looking to buy a piss missile before the euro gov bans all forms of fun.
It's a toss up between a Busa and a GSXR1000.
My riding is:
>50% Commuting/daily errands
>25% Twisties
>25% Weeks long touring
Busa seems more practical but I have to do a kickstand 180° spin to fit the bike into where it lives so the lighter gsxr seems better.
What do we think?
>>
>>27978946

My younger brother wants a dual sport bike that he can ride “mostly on trails” but can also do 80+mph. He sent me a bunch of 450cc motocross bikes that he could “make street legal”.I told him to lower his top speed expectations and look for a lighter trail oriented dual sport. The KLX230s look pretty good for him and he can buy new in his area for $3500. Keep in mind he hasn’t ridden a bike since he rode a Honda XR80 as a kid. I’m not way off base am I?

Basically you don't have to feel as bad when you put off doing maintenance because you're lazy.

I found what would be a good place to ride electric motorcycles if they weren't so expensive. It's a part of the world where all the roads are twisty, almost none are divided, exceeding 150km/h would require MotoGP lean angles, and all the cute little towns have "please ride quietly" signs. If I win the lotto I'll buy a vacation house in the area and keep a few emotos in the garage, so I can ride my big touring bike there (or, forgive me, truck+trailer if I'm hauling a family) and use the quiet bike(s) for local rides.
>>
>>27979072
150cc can be frustrating. 250cc can OK, fun even, if the manufacturer bothered to tune it. 373cc is the sweet spot.

I'd say it will be more boring than the original. The 400 engine is the fun part, that's what makes it stand out.
FZR 600 had a steel frame and it's not the raciest engine. If you want a lighter 600, just get some other more modern/ racier bike.
Also, goes for all that trouble and doesn't put a fork from the FZR 600 in which would give him bigger rotors.
>>
>>27978341
They're very fun. If you've ever ridden an ebike with a no-pedal throttle mode it's like that only without the pedals and an engine that can keep up with traffic or climb hills.
>>
>>27978582
hard to say without directly comparing the twos weight distribution and suspension load. even with "upgrades" and an engine swap, whoever did it is obviously not a world class engineer with a multi million dollar team behind him using controlled production parts

In Europe there are speed cameras and cops everywhere. You can't fight tickets, cops are even more scum than American ones, license (which you'll lose after a couple offences of going 20 over) cost at the very least 1k USD equiv. and it takes a lot of time to get one back. Generally Europeons are poor and there's this mentality of subservience/bowing to authority. I spent a month riding motorcycles in Colorado in 2023, not caring what speed I was going and every morning I wake up thinking about it just before the suicide thoughts creep in. Most of them lol. Everything but the 800cc ptwins (V-Strom 800DE, GSX-8S, GSX-8R) is running a very reliable, well known engine design. The SV650 and DL650/DL1000 are from ~2017. The GSXRs are from ~2011. The GSX-S1000GT/GX are runnung a GSXR engine from 2005. The DR-650 and DR-Z400 are so old they're still *carbureted*.

>Forza Horizon 5
>EA Sports WRC
>Dirt Rally 2.0
