ALRIGHT GENTLEMEN hear me out
i've been riding since June, planning to do a road trip down south once it starts to get cold here. i'm plenty confident on the road although i've never been in an emergency-oh-shit-slam-the-brake-on-the-highway-situation but my situational awareness is good, shifting is good, i have taken my bike apart before etc
that being said one thing i CANNOT figure out is what to do about rain on the visor. in the daytime its not terrible, but definitely suboptimal. at night its fine on the highway because it blows away, but at sub-45mph backroads its a LIABILITY and i end up just opening the visor and getting peppered with rain all the way home, because at least i can see puddles and potential deer on the dark as shit road

give me advice PLEASE before i get smoked out here. "dont ride in the rain retard" is not an option because i need to practice in the rain to figure out what to do when im accidentally STUCK in the rain 800mi from home

So buy a used Japanese one. "oh it's made of metal and gears" from last thread, do you seriously believe there exists a motorcycle that isn't made of metal? The QUALITY of the parts matters, not just that they're made of some form of melted down pot metal. It's a decades-old cloned Honda air cooled engine, most likely. You'll need to go through every single bolt with loctite, and it will still be fragile and vibrate like a paint shaker, and be slow as balls, like, barely highway capable. If you're buying it in California, don't. I see the TT250 listed on their website for $2500 bucks and I'm sure that's closer to $3000 by the time you're out the door. You're now going to spend how much more money tracking down hotrod parts for this wheezy little pot metal motor? You know what 3 grand gets you? A DRZ. Japanese steel from the late 90s/early 2000s, arguably the peak of reliability and easy to service engineering. Incredible parts support from a wide variety of aftermarket companies, too.

Just hit it with rainx before you go. Pinlock on the inside. Get a rain glove with a wiper on the palm and/or just turn your head to the side to blow the water off of it. Rain is only miserable if you're not prepared.

The verdict is in. 9000km on my '91 Transalp. Alternator shat the bed in Norway, but no complaints otherwise. The Heidenau K60 Scouts got absolutely shredded in northern Norway. The roads are gritty as hell and have constant marks from snow chains and snowmobiles.

TET in Sweden and Finland was a blast.

Other brands still have their supersports. For Yamaha it was money they didn't want to spend. Yamaha motor is part of a conglomerate (which doesn't include the music company, Yamaha motor is owned by banks now) and they have 200+ other businesses to be in and I guess the bankers decided it was time for the Motorcycle business to increase it's margines.
I blame capital.

>still make the R6
No, they don't. They *sell* it, but that's existing stocks or assembly from existing componant stocks. They aren't manufacturing any R6-exclusive parts anymore.
It would take money to bring it back to the street in the EU, or just the willingness to sell it as a street bike in non-euro-smog lands. US and California emission limits for bikes haven't changed, and the R6 motor still has a valid California EO, which meets all 50-state requirements and is also accepted in Canada.
The "track only" bikes exist because of existing stocks of components and finished bikes.

If you can ride a bicycle just take the MSF course. Then watch twist of the wrist 2, because the MSF teaches some bad habits, particularly regarding cornering. Get something used, Japanese, and about 300-500cc. Go riding.

Yeah, two of the three phases inside the alternator cought fire. Initially I was worried that the rectifier/regulator overheated and killed the alternator with it. That is a rather common thing on this model of Transalp, since the regulator is located next to the exhaust and the alternator is a bit too strong. I did not come around to fixing this issue yet. So I got a spare regulator as well but turned out my old one was fine and the alternator just died of old age.

What sucked was that I had to wait 10 days for the parts to arrive and I had to sit on a campsite in bumfuck nowhere north of the polar circle without mobility and non-stop rain. Then again, was an adventure in hindsight.

Blurry pic related is when me and some local boy in a remote fisher village with a multimeter figured out that the alternator does not produce any current anymore and its internal resistance was curiously high at 50 Ohm

Bros, putting a bike back together without having taken it apart is a pain in the ass. I thought it would be easy because it's a newer bike that's popular (2012 r6). Thankfully there are diagrams, but they still don't tell you what the screws/bolts look like. I bought a bunch of OEM assorted bolts. Sorted them, but still have to match things together without having seen them assembled.

Anons, seriously considering a new 2024 Dr650, trading my Vstrom 1000 for something I can feel again. They gave me a price around 7500 otd, is this completely retarded? Before anyone tells me to buy used, I'm in the northeast, pre-owned shit for any good price doesn't exist. I'm already familiar with screw valves and carb rebuilds so unless there's something I'm missing it'd be piss easy to take care of.

>>
>>27991988
I need to start saving my pennies for one. I take every new (to me) bike apart and check valves, grease all of the suspension linkage and the steering stem bearings, change all fluids except the rear shock (unless it's obviously blown), and customize as necessary (lowered footpegs usually). Do this and the bike is now in almost a like-new state. Another cool/uncool thing about the VFR800F is that they ditched the side radiators so it doesn't get so damn hot, even though that meant losing more of the VFR SOVL.

This is a very good road. You can go for literal miles and never see a single person. I used to ride it on my bike for exercise.

If your 5th/6th gen VFR has overheating issues there's something wrong with it. The most I ever saw this summer when sitting in traffic was a bit over 220 degrees and once I got moving it'd drop quickly.
I do run water wetter in my coolant so that helps.
>>
>>27992145
ok but how do u make the water wetter

I was lucky, guy was the second owner but barely put any miles on it because he was old enough to know better. Still spent $800 in service prepping it for sale, it was funny talking to someone who's been riding longer than I who knew less about the internals of his bike
>If in a year this bike will look more like your old R3 I'm gonna kick your ass
Ordering a bottle of quick detail tonight and doing the hotwing method. It'll be a bit tough keeping it perfect as I still don't have a garage to keep it in but cover is going on it every single night.

Rain X is designed for glass. If you put it on a motorcycle visor it will damage the plastic and make it hazy.
