Leaning off the bike is so your bike can be more upright, and in turn the center of gravity is moved to the inside of the bike to help corner. A bike with less lean (on the street) is les likely to lowside

Look closer if serious. Frame cracked in the HAS but the welds themselves are fine. Time to take bike down to the frame, carefully remove paint around damage then groove crack areas and stop drill the crack ends and weld over them with a proper MIG or TIG machine.

Bottom looks like a swingarm pivot with issues. Find what those are.

I'm currently doing the brakes on it. Chucked my Chinese sintered pads and went with proper EBC HH pads. Took the calipers apart to clean and replace seals. Several of the seals were severely swollen and the pistons were very difficult to remove. Everything moves a lot better now.

Still scheduled to go look at that 2011 gsxr750 on Monday. Gf is coming with me in the cage so I'll be ready to buy and ride it home if I'm happy with it, but I'll also be prepared to walk away empty handed.

What book should I read to learn about handling physics and driving dynamics of a motorcycle?

Things like tire diameter and width, shock heights and travel, and their effects on lean angle, suspension preload while braking before a corner, deflection, rider weight, position, and aerodynamics? I want to know as much as humanly possible for my adhd hyper focus to consume.

Does anyone have experience with the convertibar handlebar risers? I just bought a set for my 4th gen viff. This is my compromise for not buying a Transalp, and instead I'm making this viff into a true mile muncher.

Their website says that I should be able to get 3" lift on this bike without modifying the windshield. I find that hard to believe because the stock handlebars just barely don't hit the windshield. But whatever, we'll see.

yes it's plausible with patience. since it's your first time wrenching you'll want a proper manual, and a stand/jack if your bike doesn't have a center stand. a bleeder kit from harbor freight makes the bleeding easier, and swapping out brake pads is pretty easy just look up how to bed your type of pads afterwards. fork seals you'll likely have to pull the forks which will be the most daunting and time consuming but the job itself isn't exactly difficult. good luck

China has fewer than 10'000 jews in total, because zhangs know how to outjew a jew.
Also, it seems they don't have any anti-antisemitic laws and their media doesn't censor antisemitic opinions.
And you pay less for their bikes than you do for jew-approved bikes.

I wish I was financed by zhangs to say good things about them.

Dear /dbt/,

I've never driven a motorcycle, and I'll be doing the MSF course next weekend.
I think I mostly just want a transportation alternative to my shitbox (which is starting to have some problems), since public transport is not great here. A small bike could fit in my 1-car garage, and I like the idea of having a simpler-to-maintain vehicle.

So I'm looking online for small bikes for sale in my area. There's a Genuine Scooter Co. G400C with 3500 miles on it, and a Suzuki TU250X with 15000 miles on it, both about the same price. Right now I'm thinking I should go for the G400C, since it's got less miles on it, a bigger engine, and a kick-start backup feature that I don't think is standard on the TU250X. (can you push-start a motorcycle the same way you can a car with a bad battery?) At the same time, since I might not ride that much, a bike that's a little smaller/lighter might be better.

Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated.

Sincerely,
anon
>>
>>27993635
TU250X is the better buy, indestructible. You can absolutely bump start a motorcycle.

Your link literally says $13,750. Now there's a few bits of why that's ostensibly "not what they really cost" (the Japanese price is 1.5m yen so it kind of is) but they are nowhere near $40k. In Europe where you can buy them normally they sell $15,000 to $20,000 new.

No. You can push 5-8k miles with modest offroading on something like Shinko 700s/244s and trailwings. Ignore reviews from hard-core offroaders, trailwings (301/302) work wonderfully for how long they last, they get hate because they suck eggs for mud and sand like every other dual sport tire. The only thing that will likely hit 10k miles is an 80/20 or so tire. Something like the pirelli scorpion rally tires that come stock on the t7 can last upwards of 10k miles on a lighter bike, but it's a very mild tire offroad.

Cool, the VFs came with both a center and kick stand so I guess I'll get started tomorrow. The busted seal is annoying but not nearly as pressing as the brakes being basically completely non-functional, so I'll do the brakes first. Is it possible to bleed the lines without a kit? I don't mind ordering something but I'd like to get started ASAP. I guess it's possible I could pick up a brake bleeder at like a Lowes or something though, right? I'd have to pick up new fluid anyway.
>>
>>27993946
What dual sport tires do you recommend and how fast do you go down these dirt roads?
>>
>>27994044
yes you don't need the kit it just makes it less tedious. doing it without it feels like you need 3 hands. if you do it without a bleeder kit all you need is fluid and a tube to fit your bleeder screw nipple and an old bottle to collect the fluid at the other end.
>>
have any of you ever had the clip of a masterlink come off? is it more of a problem with bike with higher HP or does that matter?
>>
>>27993252
>>27992673
To addend this: I have a vacuum bleeder and it has a purpose, but my new favorite method of bleeding is reverse-bleeding with a big syringe. Drain the system, load the syringe up with brake fluid, stick it on the caliper bleed nipple and boost the fluid up into the reservoir with the cap off.
>>
>>27992816
small world. are you still in the area?
>>
>>27994077
600cc 4 cylinder and above seem to be the land of rivet links. You could safety wire the clip but that might still not get a pass from tech. Never seen one fail on a dirtbike or lower cc streetbike.
>>
>>27994077
It's a skill issue.
>>
>>27994044
>>27994073
I haven't done it on a bike but I've used a bleeder bottle like this for cars and it makes one-man bleeding easy as fuck, and I'd imagine a bike should be easier than a car. Autozone seems to carry something similar for $11 and I'd imagine other parts stores do as well, so you can probably get it the same place you're gonna get fluid.

You could probably ghetto rig one with a tube and an old bottle but I don't recommend it because you usually cycle the fluid from the bottle back into the reservoir and ANY moisture left in the bottle is going to fuck the fluid.
>>
>>27994032
My oil filler cap was also weeping oil and I almost bought another o-ring for it, but just before I did I decided to wipe it down with a rag. Turns out there was a buildup of crud in the sealing surface, and cleaning it stopped the leak.
It's always good to thoroughly inspect an issue because throwing parts at it
>>
>>27994085
>cycle the fluid back into the reservoir
nigga WHAT???
>>
>>27994077
Happened to me last week. Not sure how, but it was just after I launched up a steep little incline.
Maybe the chain rubbed on something on the ground, but it was also on the way out. I'll be going to a rivet type now and using the clip type that chain comes with as a spare.
Either way, make sure you carry a spare master link at all times.
>>
>>27994092
Read nigga, read. It's an inadvertent part of the process especially doing it one-man style, if your bleed line is on the bottom of the bottle it's very easy to not quite close the bleed nipple in time and some of the old fluid + moisture can get sucked back in.
>>
>>27994079
is there any benefit to doing it this way?
>>
>>27994072
Why is everyone asking this? Fastest I go on dirt is top of 3rd gear or bottom/middle of 4th, around 40-45mph. After 50mph I get death wobble (on dirt), which could be due to running road pressure.

Any 50/50 tire will do for me, you see what I ride on, none of it is technical enough to warrant a more aggressive tread. I also use the bike to commute so I need tires that last. I can't make any strict recommendations, just ask the guys who ride in your area what they recommend.
>>
>>27994098
Time and sanity? I will add that this seems to work best on non-ABS bikes and I haven't tried it on a system where the Y-fitting for the front calipers is on one of the calipers instead of coming right off of the master.
>>
>>27994097
did some boomer tell you this?
>>
>>27994097
oh I see what you mean. yeah that's one of the benefits of that HF kit is it's similar to your pic just with a vacuum hand pump on the other end. I will say when reading how to use it it says elevate the fluid catch above the nipple which may be for that reason- to help with backflow
>>27994100
interdastang, I wonder if I can use that method to avoid dealing with the stuck screws on my master cylinder lol
>>
>>27994072
I'm using shinko 241 at the moment and love them
>Cheap
>Smooth on road
>No issues off road
>Easy to change
I got about 8,000km on the rear with mostly road riding and the front currently has 10,000km and still has ~35% tread
>>
>>27994092
Shit, I'm the one who said it and I was just momentarily retarded, it's been a while and I used to install whole performance brake systems from scratch and with those we'd run the fluid through a few times to flush everything out and then do the final bleed with fresh fluid.
>>
>>27994113
The master cylinder reservoir needs to be open with either method. Use an impact screwdriver to get them unstuck if they're not stripped yet.

>>

If it's a rectangular reservoir like on a Nissin master cylinder, just use whatever bit fits best. The driving force of the hammer helps even an imperfectly sized phillips head really grip the screw, as well as the impact hopefully breaking loose whatever has seized the screw in place.
>>
>>27994144
>just use whatever bit fits best.

>>27994153
Continue being a wrenchlet. It's a fucking master cylinder cap, not a brain surgery robot. I'm not even sure if they would be actual JIS screws or regular Phillips, I've had both kinds of screwdriver work just fine in them.
>>
>>27994141
it depends on whether the screws are JIS or not. JIS is not "a Phillips screwdriver that is better", it's its own closely related but distinct screw profile. JIS drivers can work with Phillips well, Phillips drivers will strip JIS fast.

that aside: get a JIS driver in the right size, the difference matters the most when you get to impact-hammer levels. remove the cap screws. you might need to drill them out if penetrative oil plus heat don't work. replace them with hexheads ASAP.

You're kinda tiny so wide bars are going to feel weird. If you have the control area to spare, bring your perches and switches and grips inward as much as you want, then just chop the bars narrower and either re tap the bar end threads or just get pinch bolt style bar ends. Wide bars are really nice when cornering just because it's so easy to turn the bike in, but you have to make it fit your body no matter what bike you buy.

UK anons: can i get my full unrestricted motorcycle license without having to go through schools?

when i got my driving license, i drove around for 30 days with my parents, booked the test, passed, and that was it. i avoided the entire "driving instructor" grift and the retarded "3 month waiting list", because people constantly cancel their tests and i booked one within days of wanting one.

can i do the same thing with motorcycles? ive got my CBT through a school, and i really dont want to go through that timewaster again. but for unrestricted i need to do mod1/mod2 on a 645cc, but the CBT only allows me a 125cc, right? is there any way around this conundrum, or do i *have* to go through one of these "schools"?

i just hate wasting time with instructors regurgitating DVLA shit and having to wait around for the other 3 clowns in the lesson to fall over before doing an excercise i can do in my sleep. mod1 is 30 mins affair, so is mod2, yet schools around me want 4 days "courses" for mod1...

Easiest way for bleeding out the master when you've lost complete pressure? I rebuilt the calipers.

I've done this several times on buddies' bikes and everytime it was a long painful process of going back and forth between master and caliper. I don't have the fittings to bench bleed the master like I do on cars.

Wil zip tieing the lever down for several hours get enough of the air out to get pressure and bleed it?
>>
>>27994190
I'll all fairness my tires do fine on that sort of stuff too. I'd love a tw200 for ripping up wash roads and off trail areas though.

when i to prime my master cyl i just poured all the fluid in a big cup and then submerged the ms and pumped it a few times. nice motorcycle IV

could have sworn you were a europeen. nevada drivers must be pretty nice if you havent gotten creamed yet (no respect) despite being sub 250cc. i figured japan is the only place you can comfortably ride a 250 or less on public roads.

Damn. I don't think I have enough brake fluid for that, but that actually sounds like it would work, just really fucking messy.
Does it not lose it's fluid when you remove it to put it on the bike and connect everything?
>>
>>27994253
Not him but I've spent some time in Northern Nevada and outside Reno it's pretty chill. I'm from SoCal and would never consider going near a freeway with anything less than at least a 500 here but I felt like a 250 or 300 could be pretty alright in Northern Nevada, especially because you don't have to go far on the paved roads to get to the dual sport stuff.

I'm moving to Central Oregon soon myself - had actually planned on Carson City instead, which is why I've been there, but the real estate market there is even more fucked than Bend now - and from what I've seen watching bike youtube channels etc. that are based in the area it seems like you can do OK with a 250-300 there as well. I'm currently debating whether to get a 300 dual sport or a 450-650 beginner ADV as my first bike once I move there, the dual sport would be really nice for the local stuff but there's also a group I'd like to go ride with up closer to Portland and both getting there and keeping up with the group on a 300 would be tough.

Nah you're just filling the sealed portion of the MS so it can actually pump fluid. Once you let go of the lever the internal volume of the ms is sealed so you can tip it every which way. When you connect the brake line there will be air in the line but not the master cylinder itself.

A t7 would be nice.

That's probably going to be my second bike but I can't afford one yet and I'd probably wreck it 100yd into the first gravel road with my lack of experience.

The new Himalayan would really be the perfect thing for my needs but I'm just not sure I can stomach buying an Indian bike.

>You're kinda tiny
5'7" aint that small
>If you have the control area to spare, bring your perches and switches and grips inward as much as you want
I feel like bringing it closer to the center would make it moreso just awkward to ride, not that I'm oppposed to it since the highway wind on the bars really sucks
>Wide bars are really nice when cornering just because it's so easy to turn the bike in
I've noticed this much in just general handling, I've got a lot more leverage to actually push it around despite the weight making it feel lighter than it is
>but you have to make it fit your body no matter what bike you buy
this is going to be the toughest part with this bike I think, I really love it but it definitely feels a little too *physically* big for me and I'm not sure how to tackle that problem

What protective equipment do you wear?
I'm going to be doing dual sports and I've bene told multiple times: "Get a knee brace"
>>
>>27994564
Looks good to me. Ideally you want to get in the middle of the spec but as long as it's inside the spec then I'd be happy.
Maybe expect the tighter ones to need reshimming on the next inspection.
>>
>>27994586
Spend big on boots first.
Gaerne SG12 are one of the best
Alpinestars tech 7 enduro are popular and cheaper but not as protective.
Don't fuck around with "Adventure" boots. If you can fold them in half with your hands then they're not good enough.
Most people agree that knee braces are a good idea, some people suggest knee guards are good enough and a small amount of people think knee braces do more harm than good.
I want to get knee braces but I got guards first because they're cheaper. POD K4 knee braces are a decent price (relative to other braces) and work well.
