So wait, this is the second F40 in a week to get wrecked in a straight line cause people don't know how to drive?

For Lando Hack-ris the reputational damage alone outweighs $2.5million

Read the date code. For a performance vehicle you should absolutely replace the tires every 5 years, stored inside or not. They deteriorate over time, becoming harder and less flexible. The tires on Walker's Porsche were over 10 years old when they lost control into a tree.
>they still have good tread
doesn't matter

buying tires costs money, dying costs everything.

I've driven both, and a lot sketchier cars than either, like pro street cars built in the 90s with 0 chassis engineering knowledge and blown big blocks. The F40 is undrivable, always has been, always will be. You will never see a video of one getting wringed out on a public road that's really under boost for more than a few seconds at a time. In the Nico Rosberg tries and makes it about 10 seconds before getting scared and letting off the rest of the drive
https://youtu.be/WNjYyh9KTXc
(you are a better driver than him though right, because you drove a Ford Ranger on summer tires in the snow one time).
The straight line crash isn't surprising and there was no saving it. As soon as F40s hit boost, they squat hard because of the garbage chassis and suspension tech, you are then tramlining on an 80s technology Pirelli that basically has all terrain tread but 345 width, almost all F40s have these tires for "originality" (though I've also driven one with somewhat modern Michelins on it and it's still bad). So as soon as it squats you will dart a little bit, realize you have almost no steering command because the shit front tires and notchy rack, let off, it's still under boost so you get way different engine braking behavior that you aren't ready for, the weight dives forward onto your shitty but tiny Pirelli fronts, and you Mustang it off the road.

Let me reiterate: this would happen to you, you suck at driving and cannot handle this car, just like everyone else. I am a much more experienced driver than you and learned what these cars do the first time hitting boost and never pushed it without being in an empty industrial part with huge runouts.
>>
>>28220921
f40s were like 800k a few years ago what happened?

>Nico Rosberg tries and makes it about 10 seconds before getting scared and letting off the rest of the drive
Surprise. Surprise. Another F1 driver who can't drive. Now lets see a rally or a Nascar driver driving a F40 lol.

>you are a better driver than him though right, because you drove a Ford Ranger on summer tires in the snow one time
I did that with trucks for a good 10 years before eventually growing up. Living somewhere where there's snow 10 months out of the year automatically makes you a better driver than most of the general population and apparently even some race drivers. Fairweather faggots can't leave a car meet without meeting the crowd. Meanwhile people here are driving Mustangs, Hellcats, Corvettes and other high HP RWD cars out in the snow and ice with no issues.

Loading an F40 into an enclosed trailer or a tilting alumalite is like doing a lap of Circuit de la Sarthe. You think it's not nerve wracking driving a $2 mil car with a clutch 3x the weight of most manuals up a ramp with 2" of clearance on each side? Look at this picture and try to figure out how I got out of the car after driving it in.

Also, now that there's 24/7 video of everything at all times this may be different, but when an F40 was damaged at another dealer near me while a tech wash driving (the tech didn't crash it, a landscaping truck drove into the back of it not seeing it since they are so low), the customer just ended up paying out of pocket, since if the dealers insurance did it, it would go on the record of the car and devalue it more than the cost of the repair. All sorts of weird shenanigans go on with these cars, they are bought and sold constantly outside of public auctions, 2 of them sold while in the middle of a service we were doing, on of which was just bought at auction and sent straight to us, I don't think the owner that had it for those few months ever actually saw the car in person.

In japan they have reflector lights that spin in the opposite direction of the road. It forces you from focusing on the lights and veering into them, and instead you naturally want to veer away from them and in line with the curve of the road.
>t. they saved my ass when I was falling asleep driving once because I was exhausted
>>
These cars have untune-able handling characteristics due to rear engine weight and high rev turbo. It’s like a 70s racecar with late 80s style. It’s why Japan took over the 90s with AWD and better handling cars.

Brave drivers though. Don't get confused into thinking you could do that. There isn't a single person on earth that will ever drive an F40 that does not have 100x the driving experience and skill you do, whether it's the owner or a technician.

>>28225306
>Why the fuck wouldn't you just push it in?
There's <1" clearance between the rockers and the wheel arches of the trailer, someone has to be in to steer regardless so may as well drive it in.

>Turbo lag is irrelevant. The only thing that'll make a car spin out is overcorrecting due to a lack of driving skill.
Incorrect, I already explained exactly what happens in my first post and there's plenty of evidence to show it's true. Yeah the rapid liftoff is the problem and could be attributed to skill, but unless you've driven one already, you aren't going to be ready for what happens when it hits boost and by nature of how expensive the car is and how intense the car is otherwise to drive, it's instant information overload with little time to react.

>>
>>28221186
This happens with bikes and motorcycles. I have to look away from objects on the trail I am heading towards with my bike so I can lean the bicycle to turn. There is a no outlet sign in my yard I fly by at the end of my daily bike ride around town and my house is at the bottom of a hill so I end up going full speed at it and have to lean the bike to miss it which means rotating my torso which wants to follow my head. It I stare down the sign it's hard to move out of th3 way but if I look past it at a different target or line it's easy to juke around it at speed.

This is spot on. The F40 is a terrible car: badly engineered, zero driving aids, RWD, turbo with tremendous lag, absurd torque curve where you gain about 200 hp over 1000 rpm. Add in old tyres and a wet road and that poor mechanic was doomed from the moment he left the garage. Especially since «testing the engine» was what he was supposed to do…

FWD drivers should not be allowed to post here. RWD cars don't spin out the second they lose traction. They spin out because the driver has no skills.

No one is going to replace thousands of dollars worth of tires which only have 100 miles on them, just to go on a sunday drive at low speeds. Poorfags whip shitboxes with 20 year old Chinese tires every day, and usually its fine. You only get new ones when they fall apart or wear out.

>It's the car's fault whenever someone crashes, not the retard controlling it
Do you even hear yourself? Fucking room temp iq dipshit

Tangentially related, I've seen on some Canada spec Ferraris from the early 00s, they made the headlights DRLs by just using a wire bite connector to some other hot wire so the headlights are on when the ignition is on. It's possible some importer did this but it looked to me like it was probably original the way it was taped to the harness. The automatic seatbelts in the F40 and the F50 for NA market are also completely butchered into the car by Ferrari, they truly didn't give a fuck back then about homologation for non-EU markets.
>>
are F40s really worth that pricetag?

>is any single consumer/collectible item that's been marked up to the point the number stops having any significance for the absolute vast majority of the world population "worth it"?
If you have to ask, you can't afford it anyway, so why bother?

don't ever pivot my question to whine about financial disparity, or i'll call you brown.
>>

I'll call myself brown, even black, look how much I care about this bottom of the barrel racism, nigger. Now, the answer to your precious question: it depends on your use case.
>a means of transportation?
No.
>a racecar?
No.
>a flex on the poor?
Probably not.
>a flex amongst equally rich people?
Probably.
>a collectible item that was a scarce luxury item by design in a curated collection of comparable %items?
Probably yes.
>an ever appreciating asset to store wealth into so that the capital invested in it will turn an inflation-adjusted profit by the time you sell it again?
Yes.

For some reason the answer is still all about how far removed you are from the practical value of money. Weird.
>>
>>28233701
you missed the only one that matters
>as a fun car to drive
the fact you didn't even have this in the list shows how far removed you are from being a car enthusiast. Weird.

Insurance scam.

I'd be willing to bet they are on really high performance tires that were cold. I had the bright idea once of putting tires on a car I had maybe 10 or 12 years ago that were essentially street-legal race tires, and they had absolutely no grip until they warmed up to operating temperature. I let my friend drive us home one night because I was a bit drunk, and I forgot to warn him about that. About 2 minutes down the road the ass end came out around a turn (at probably less than 35 mph) and the car went ass-first into a guard rail.

just worked on one in my shop yesterday no lie. might be the worst modern car merc makes, and they make a lot of shitty cars. I hate the way it handles, i hate the interior and the shitty gear selector. leaky as a faucet. constant problems.

its a german car, but somehow even worse
>>
>>28223916

The Ferrari F40 isn't a car, it's a story. "The last car approved by Enzo himself".
The car is a piece of shit. The Porsche 959 came out two years earlier, was actually built well, comfortable, and it was also faster.
Keep that thing on your posters or as an investment ONLY. But if you buy it as an investment then I don't respect you.
Anyway buy an aircooled 911 Turbo if you want a fast dangerous RWD car or buy a modern supercar if you actually want to go fast.
>but it has assists i want to do RAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWW BAAAAAAAWWWW
Your stupid flabby hands aren't built for controlling 400hp+ all by yourself. Get real, stop acting macho and go have actual fucking fun without your faggoty pretentions of being the next Walter Röhrl or some shit.

>>28237485

People who buy cars for this reason shouldn't be allowed to fucking own cars.
