For almost any car built after 2010 the odds of your engine or transmission not lasting the life of the car with proper maintenance is close to zero. It's the electronics that kill cars now and they're equally bad on everything.

I don't know about cars, but American printing presses are a shitload easier to work on than German ones. K.I.S.S. is a foreign concept to German engineers. Off the top of my head, here's an example: So in this kind of printing, a squeegee will smash down onto a flat surface and swipe it at a constant pressure and speed. FYI the press is hooked up to a compressor supplying 110 PSIAmerican design - Air in, distributed to valve that chops squeegee down, valve connected to hand adjustable regulator to adjust how much pressure the squeegee will chop, supplemental mechanical stops on squeegee provided in case customer wishes to use that instead of regulated pressure. German press: air in distributed to squeegee system, through a main relief valve provided to dump air in case of an emergency that never happens, with an electronic regulator connected to a digital/analog converter on PLC which then connects to a valve, which then connect to the squeegee cylinders which are encased in a print head and nearly inaccessible without major disassembly but pretty.

It's not so much that they're actually hard, more that everything just operates on a completely different logic to American or Japanese cars. There are a lot of "what the fuck is this?" moments when you're not used to working on them but it eventually starts making sense. They do require a lot of specialty tools and equipment, some of it way outside the reach of home mechanics, and you do run into stuff that's comically overengineered but it's more time consuming and tedious to deal with than actually hard.
Like others said, it depends. My e30 i can fix with simple hand tools and nothing is that complex. My 2019 bmw is so cramped under the hood it took me an hour and a half to do air filters.
