What's the difference between these types of winter tyres?
Is there a map or something that will tell me which one to choose based on where I live? It's my first winter driving, I don't want to die br/o/s.

Buy studded if your area gets ice

Just don't bomb it around turns and give yourself more time to stop. Driven through plenty of winters sliding around on all-seasons

Where do you live? Unless you get a serious winter, you don't need winter tires.

I live in Estonia (next to Finland and Russia), winter tyres are mandatory in my country, but any tyre with the 3PMSF marking is considered a "winter" tyre so I'm not sure which type to get.
Most of the local tyre shops seem to suggest tyres like the X-Ice Snow, but I'm wondering if they are worth it, the weather is not that extreme here.

Winter tires are made for temperatures below 40F. They're softer and have better grip. It doesn't need to be snowing or icy.

If you drive mostly get, get the alpins. If you get a decent amount of snow, x-ice

Dry, not get

Keep an eye on your rear view mirror while you're stopped at a light. Keep a mental note of which way you can dodge out of the way if a somali with bald all-seasons decides he wants to rear end you.

Are all terrains ok for winter or do I NEED actual winter tires - esp for rough mountain roads where winter tires tend to be road biased. I'm not sure what they even expect you to do.

The PA4 (left side) is high performance winter tire.
Its comparable to the Vredestein Wintrac Pro.

If you have a BMW M340i or similar its the best option.

The right side is a traditional snow tire. Slight edge in deep snow but its handling sucks on cold pavement.

Basically right side is fine unless you have a performance car.
