Sexiest car. Wanted more than Supra. Not at that price. Not without an LSD. Not that soft. Not that with that much turbo lag.

My cope also now extends to the super-cramped engine bay. TT 300Z all over again.

I got a new Performance Z for $40k somehow; at that price it's literally the best car on the market over the past 20 years. Even now, there are plenty of new Performance Zs going for below $45k which is an absolute steal
>>
>>28726343

>>28726454
stfu Miata, come back to my CTR thread and hate on me there, the Z looks good and at 40k, holy shit.

But I bet if I looked now, the manual Performance ones would be closer to 50 before tax.
>>
>>28726343
Even the nu GT-R was a flop. What did you expect from this company?
>>
>>28726448
I checked prices within half the country of me 54k min for manual. They might go for 50k. Maybe even 50k OTD, but I am sure they won't go lower.
>>
>>28726465
Yeah, sticker price on a manual performance Z is about $45.5-49k depending on your location based on a cursory online listing search
>>
I spoke too soon, I am seeing 51.5*, if those discounts aren't bullshit, but that's the lowest I see, so I don't know where you are getting 45.

At 40-45k, it's a better overall deal than a GT or CTR, at 55, not even close imo.

Any planned mods? Here's what I would do if I had one:
>Engine
From what I can tell, there's almost literally no point to swapping intakes or exhaust if you're not swapping downpipes or turbos. I'd probably just get a stock tune (probably from SonicTuned) and call it a day
>Suspension
I dunno, maybe swap it out for the Nismo stuff and add a bit of chassis bracing
>Tires
Tear up the stock tires, then get PS4S or ECS02 ASAP
>Misc
I dunno, maybe get a tie rod for track days?
>>
>>28726774
>any mods
No. The Z forums are full of people doing downpipes, bolted on wings (ugly), tunes, suspension drops, intake manifolds, intercooler upgrades etc... It all seems like a waste to me. I do NOT plan to track this car. This is my fun daily driver car and I have no complaints with how it drives. There is also a lot of debate about what oil to run and if the engines are prone to failure, but every failure is on a tuned car so far.

I will admit the stock tires are as bad as people say. I thought they were just trying to justify new tires but I literally installed winter tires and it already handles better. The stock tires follow every little bump and crack in the road and if you drive with one hand it will jerk the wheel out of your hand.

The only 'mod' I have done is a set of white interior LEDs to replace the low powered warm lighting. I'm thinking about doing the aluminum drain pan upgrade but for now I am sampling my oil and changing it every 6,000km. I would also LOVE to upgrade the back up camera. It's blurry, mounted at a slight angle and has a 1 second delay when turning on but only some of the time. It's hilarious how bad it is.
>>
>>28726785
Fair enough. I'd realistically only do the tune (mostly to remove the top speed limiter, but the efficiency + power gains are also nice) and tires (because they're so much better).
Everything else isn't really worth the price from what I can tell

>>
>>28726797
I can understand doing mods if you are tracking the car or if you have deep pockets. My last car was a 200hp Turbo Kia Forte. It weighed the same as the Z. I didn't even realize how fucking fast this car is until going 3/4 throttle in 3rd gear on an open road. I used to drive my Kia aggressively but have never had a higher powered car. To me, this feels like more than enough power and I honestly bought it because it's Manual, RWD and Yellow. I was willing to compromise on 1 of those things when looking for a new car.

I strongly considered the Zupra but it doesn't have an external trunk button, the trunk opening is too small for a hockey bag the visibility is no good and I don't like the BMW interior components. The Yellow Zupra looks fucking great, especially from the back, but I think the Z looks just as good if not better. The discount on the Z sealed the deal for me as well. I strongly agree that Nissan priced these things 10k too high.

The Z has a proper suspension setup and looks better. It looks better in person, whereas a mustang looks ok in photos but is a fat pig in person.
I’m not a fan of musclecars, but if I were the Z would be a top contender (double wishbones, good power, good looks, manual transmission, good steering feel).

If Nissan let you add an LSD and Performance wheels + brakes to the Sport for $5k, it'd sell like hotcakes lol
Even as is, it's doing quite well for its segment. The next best selling Japanese sports car (GR86) sold about half as many units as the Z. It's even somewhat competitive in terms of sales with the Mustang if you take out the Ecoboom trims
>>

When I was cross shopping for my next possible car I looked at the Civic Type R and the Acura (I forget the model) that had manual transmissions. Every reviewer says the transmission is the best in the world and I really considered it. It just didn't seem "cool" enough for me to go from a Hatchback Kia Forte to a Honda at that price. I still think the Acura looks amazing and the interior specs are awesome but again, it didn't come in yellow or RWD. I also think the styling of the Z is 10/10 and the Civic type R is 5/10 with excessive plastic that does nothing.

>>28726984
>Yellow
>RWD

I also compared the stang and the Camaro but they don't evoke that same "holy fuck I love how this car looks" feeling that my Z gives me. I do turn my head when I see a newer mustang though (not the EV).

>>28727103
>Easier to park
I've had the car for 8 months now and still can't park this fucking thing. I have backed into a spot with nobody around and when I get out I see the front left of my car touching the line and the back right is touching the line. I've seen people complain about the camera being mounted at an angle and I believe it. I rely only on my right side mirror to line up the parking stall lines now. And the front end is really hard to judge distance with. Thank the japanese gods for the fucking parking sensors.

>>28727343
Laptimes don't bother me. Straight line speed doesn't bother me. I was sitting at a light next to a newer 4 door audi. Off the line he was gone and around the corner before I shifted into 3rd gear. 1st and 2nd are so short in the Z. I'm also assuming he was in an automatic. The Z also HATES fast shifting and will jerk around like crazy.

CTR fag here with same cross shopping story. I can't say I made the wrong or right choice either. I do like the way the Z looks way better and RWD does win hard, but then I get into reliability, space in engine bay, soft suspension, Nissan going out of business, interior which is more fitting of a GR86, etc and it becomes a wash. In short, I don't think there is a clear right choice there.

CTR shifter isn't any better than my 2009 Si shifter, literally, and the clutch travel is longer (but that could be because I fucked with it when I did clutch/flywheel/fork/bearing/etc). CAN grind second, but it's pretty rare.

I would take the Supra over the Civic any day if money wasn't an issue or the C7 Z06 if money wasn't an issue and I wanted to wrench. Other than that, I don't see many choices. Sometimes I actually think of going to the GR86 for the poor boy points.

when the vr30 was in the (now discontinued) Q50/60, most of the failures were people running map 6 on a JB4 piggyback or dirty oil locking up the engine oil pressure control solenoid. I'm dyno tuned on Z1 turbos making 500whp and I beat the absolute piss out of it. I put 25k miles on it on an email tune from AMS before that and it's been perfect. The turbos I took off were in perfect health. I changed them out because I wanted the bigger ball bearing Z1s. long story short; I'm worst case scenario owner for the vr30 and it's held up great

That civic is slower than a Tesla. Doesn't matter to me. A Kia Forte comes with air cooled front seats, memory drivers seat, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. Yet people will buy an Audi or BMW that doesn't have those luxuries. Just get whatever car you enjoy.

>>28728690
>space in the engine bay
This does concern me. I'm a mechanic though and I have lifts at work so I'm not too bothered. I'd rather not replace timing chain guides or injectors or remove any major components on a Saturday and need it driveable by Monday.

The GR86 was another really tough choice when cross shopping because that light blue looks awesome. Back seats are also a bonus and the HVAC controls and features are better than the Z. I miss having dual climate control. Oh, and manual handbrake was another great feature of the Z when compared to a Zupra.

>>
>>28729537
>exploding turbos
no lol, the Z's turbos get up to a max of 14.7 psi on a stock tune.
Most aftermarket tunes will bump it up to 15-16 psi with no signs of accelerated wear. Many tuners are fine with taking them all the way up to 22 psi if you ask
For comparison, the Whipple Mustang, WRX STI, and 4 cylinder Cumaros and Mustangs all run 16+ psi of boost stock and don't have any problems until retarded tuners add 25 pounds of boost

the turbos themselves aren't really a big concern, especially post 2018. they do, however have some quality concerns with the electronic wastegates. the most popular failure DTC is P2563. if you're stock turbo, that means the wastegate flap isn't opening to the commanded height or it's not reading the actual height. both require new turbo assemblies because you can't buy wastegates separately for any vr30 car. the new ecutek update should allow those that want to experiment with aftermarket gates, like Turbosmart, the ability to do so. you can also just turn those codes off if you're sure there's no mechanical fault.

Fully riced out ones are pretty hot in my opinion.

Surely it stops being rice when you use it for an actual motorsports event, right?

I just meant it as general styling direction - bodykit and livery really bumps up Z series in terms of looks. You can use race prepped if the term bothers you.

I honestly don't like these on the new Z. The 370Z looked great with slight bodykit/wraps but I think the Z looks excellent stock. It has a 'prerendered graphics' look to it and I love it. I was worried the first photos I saw of it would be pre-production/concept photos and it wouldn't look like that in the end.

>yes I know I'm not quoting anybody but figured people should know
The interior feels the same as a 350/370Z and I don't think that's a bad thing. The rounded door handles are great and the touch points all feel good. There are a lot of tiny plastic rattles behind the door panels which are very common it seems. I will pop the door skins off eventually and figure out what's going on.
The steering wheel is interesting. It looks great but the gloss black is....weird? I was shocked that these were physical buttons because they looked like those stupid VW touch buttons. They have a low quality feel and it's hard to describe how they work because the song forward/backward/menu button is one long button but the whole thing pushes in no matter what 'button' you are pushing but it functions correctly. The top cruise button is a massive piece of gloss black plastic and I laugh just looking at it.

The automatic shifter also looks stupid but I got a manual so that doesn't matter to me.

Negative Bonus points for using the same key fob as every other 2020 Nissan and capping off the old key slot with plastic (left side of the dash).

Z exhausts sounds like a vacuum I think I'll pass.
if sounded anything like the supra I would've bought it.
