WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??UNIRONICALLY HOW DID THIS HAPPEN
>>28730750It's actually fairly decent looking, but it looks like the drivetrain is pathetic. That and the price is absurdly high. But I mean the car is not even out yet. I feel like we shouldn't judge it till we actually get some real info.
>>28730755>fat>overpriced>no manual>nothing in common with a prelude >fwd WHO IS THE TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC?DID NOBODY IN HONDA SAY ANYTHING BEFORE IT DROPPED?
>>28730755I’m surprised a sportier variant isn’t even an option. I guess if I wanted a more unique Honda over buying a boring base model Civic or Accord this would make sense, but the $44,000 base price for the Prelude makes that point moot too.
>>28730758>nothing in common with a prelude>fwd
It's a Monkey Paw Prelude.
>>28730758>fwd>nothing in common with the prelude....are you retarded?
>>28730783$44,000 is too high for basically a basic commuter car I wonder if the price will drop as time goes on.
>>28730750It's not what I'd want but I'm not completely repulsed
>>28730750gapped by chad civic hybrid sport
>>28730790>>28730807yeah its also a honda and has 4 wheels its closer to like an accord coupe
>>28730750Wat is it?
>>28730750I really like it. I always wanted a car with the same HP as the civic hybrid, and less cargo space.
>>28730925Don't forget slower! I like driving safely, haha!
>>28730870How do civic hybrids drive? Handling is the only thing I could imagine this being better at.
>>28730907a honda supra
>>28730750I think Honda is getting arrogant brehs.
>>28730977it's a honda, so 'surprisingly good' or 'good for the category' are phrases that commonly come to mindabout .85 g's of pull on stock tyres, so you can punch that up to .9x-1.x with a serious performance rubber like pz5's or supercar 3's, which will pretty much transform the experience of any car without themhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z_XoIcmXLwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pb8WlvaDGI
I like it.
>"so it looks like killing of coupes just gave an entire market segment to all our competitors, and drove interest away from Honda">"I know, we will make a all-season coupe that as a hybrid will sip on gas! That offering should be enough to compete against the other coupes in the market">"Price? Well it is a hybrid system which no other choice is, so we will set our price below the mustang but above the GR86, people will surly flock to it at that price! And if it fails, oh well I guess people don't like coupes!"Honda fucked itself over because they had unrealistic expectations for the civic coupe, and are trying to get back into a market that has by now rejected them in order to bring any interest back into Honda
>>28730899...that's what prelude always was?
>>28730755204HP and 230 ft lbs of torque is kinda based, and it's based off a Civic? It looks like fun.
>>28730750Honda being Honda. We get 400 this year and maybe some more next.It isn't the car anyone remembers but it may turn out to be quite memorable.
>>28731119that just begs the question of why not just get a civic
>>28731143>fag-wheel drive
>>28730750I'm the kind of retard that would buy this, but it costs way too much. Best I can do is 35k, and that's if you swap it to 16'' wheels.
>>28730750I read a compelling case that literally the entire purpose of this car was to have a better platform for Honda's Super GT racing team, which has always been Honda's racing series of choice, see the HSV-010 as another example of Honda dumping millions of dollars into a Super GT platform that never ended up being sold as a roadcar.I think it being a shitty hybrid was equal parts trying to get sales in Europe, where the GR86 and Nissan Z were discontinued due to emissions and safety regulations, and equal parts lazily parts-binning the thing together with the Civic Hybrid's drivetrain. It's possible they're saving a performance version of the Prelude as an Acura, but I wouldn't hold my breath at this point.
>>28730758I think they priced it that way because they don't expect anyone to buy it. Then when they get no sales, they're going to turn around and say >"look at how low these sales are! I guess the public doesn't want sporty cars, let's make more crossovers"
>>28731146says the guy considering a prelude... nice logic
>>28731239I'd never consider a fag-wheel drive car
>>28731245lean to follow the chain of conversation then numbskull
>>28731252>>28731119 was being sarcastic though numbskull
>>28731245You only won't try it because youre scared you'll like it.Fag.
>>28731258poe's law
>>28730755>It's actually fairly decent lookingNo.The fucking 1st Gen Prelude looks better than this shitbox.>drivetrain is pathetic.>price is absurdly high. Agreed. An Elantra N mogs this
>>28730755New Prelude behaves like pretty much any car you program it to be. It uses electric for most of the time and uses petrol to (charge and) give you fun factor.
>>28731283Just as a point of order that's the base rather than hybrid drivetrain and you're not gonna find a new elantra n at that price anywhere today, but yeah, it's obviously not winning the 'cheap speed' sweepstakes anywhere.
>>28731304>Just as a point of order that's the base rather than hybrid drivetrain and you're not gonna find a new elantra n at that price anywhere todayFair points.Idk whether the pricing would be too different now, thanks to Tariffs. (depends on where each is made)At the end of the day, I would decide after driving both, in a variety of situations. It's a grim market desu
>>28731220>It's possible they're saving a performance version of the PreludeConsidering they did the same as the Integra, this is quite plausible. But if the regular Prelude is this expensive, then what the fuck is Prelude Type R
>>28731313Yeah if someone is looking for decent transportation that is not a cuckover, I'm not gonna begrudge them springing for a civic. Obviously as far anymore with more interest in 'enthusiasm' is concerned the real values are found in the second hand market+wrenching. Though I think the base mustang makes a pretty strong case too.
>>28730750like how hollywood keeps making celeb biopics and remakes out of desperation, the car version of that
>>28730750As a Honda fanboy it's so sad to see. Toyota has a cooler lineup now than them.
>>28730750>overpriced, front-wheel-drive, over-glorified, slower, two-door Civic with less equipment I read that it is more expensive and slower than BMW RWD 2 series. lmao prelude is for the pathetic weebcels
>>28730750>>28730755Did they want it to fail just so they can say "See no one likes to buy sports cars anymore!" Forget about the price, it's not even a sports car to begin with. Even at $30k, it's not a compelling car.
>>28730750>hybrid>fwd>coupe>3200lbs>engine fake revs because it doesn't actually drive the wheels>$70,000A winning combination.
10k markup plus bullshit add-ons. dealers are insane, but i guess they just need one rich retard who absolutely has to have one
>>28734062We need to mobilize until dealerships are all killed and you order straight from the manufacturer
>came in manualApologize
They're intentionally making bad coupes so you're forced to buy their ridiculous oversized crossovers instead.
>>28731440it's slower and (maybe) more expensive than the fucking FWD-based 2 series. think its about the same weight too, and those have 4 doors
>>28731220Nooo my 5 door racing car
>>28730758>>nothing in common with a preludeit's literally what most preludes were. big, automatic, fwd coupe. you're thinking of the type s but that's not what the normal prelude ever was.
For 2k more you can get a new base giulia that won't have shitty fake plastic "leather," will have an actual transmission, and it's rwd
Honda isn't dumb, they know what they're doing. I have no idea what that is, but they're doing it. Realistically, I think they're just trying to capture a completely untouched market. There's no competition for a hybrid coupe (probably for a reason), so they can ask whatever they want for it. I don't think they intend for it to sell huge numbers, but no one else is competing in the space.
>>28730758honda sisters not like this…
>>28730750It's nothing compared to this rugpull
>>28735976
>>28735982Here's your Integra goy
You can't really judge a hybrid by the power numbers. My maverick makes the same hp and "less torque" than my accord does on paper, but it shits all over it performance wise in a straight line at any speed while being 500lbs heavier. The instant torque is a big deal and a whole different level
>>2873075045 grand for 200 horsepower, wild. Reminds me of when Honda rereleased the CB1000R in 2011. I was going to buy one day one then I found out they were 15 grand for 85 horsepower. This was back when 15 grand could buy you a Ducati. I moonwalked out of the dealership so fast the salesman literally stopped talking mid sentence.
>>28730750Non-straightwhitemen making up the design team.
>>28735986If they made it an automatic, plusher seats, a hybrid, 20-30 extra HP ANYTHING differentbut its so predatory they don't innovate at all
I read that it's a nod to old men in Japan (40s-50s) who have begged for this. They've also already got a lot of deposits from them
>>28730750In 2 years they'll release the 2.0T 6 speed model for more than a type R costs.
>>28735410Cope
>>28735986They don't pander to the fanboys but these are solid cars
>>28730750>no pop ups>jewish nose
>>28730750de badge it to turn it into a porsche
>>28736839>post comment>posts image confirming substance of comment>copeam I just getting old, because last I checked that is not at all how the "word" is used
>>28730758>>retard doesn't realize that 90% of preludes were automatic F22A using FWD shitboxes that barely sold for more than their 4 door accord brothers until Covid when idiots got stimmy checks and realized they don't have to go for full practicality unironically tie off a noose and kick the chair faggot
>>28737267Every 5th gen, all of them, came with an H22 in the US market. The majority are manual.
>>28730750They should have made this into an Acura Same goes for the wagoneer s and the new chargers they should have been ChryslersFor that money that car is D.E.A.D
>>28730750What's the audience for this really?
Should have just put in the K20 and 6 speed from the Civic sport and left the si drivetrain for a future extra sporty model. What in the literal FUCK was Honda thinking by copy-pasting a grocery getter drivetrain into a small coupe? Couldn’t even lazily slap some electric motors in the rear to make it AWD? This car is so retarded it’s pissing me off
>>28740144Old Japanese men who were young and impressionable when the 1st gen prelude came out (1978), who were never able to buy one because they were too busy working while their wives managed all household expenses, and now either because of retirement, empty nest, widowing or a combination of those, are able to justify the expense. Not you, not me.Every anon in this thread complaining about how this prelude isn't sporty enough is missing the point entirely.
>>28740819I don't get why they are half-assing what is already a niche product by default.
>>28740838Honda probably saw how well the "coupe-like" new prius is doing in japan, and decided to join in...You want something boring and hybrid in toyota land? Corolla. You want something "fun" and hybrid in toyota land? Prius. You want something boring and hybrid in honda land? Civic. You want something "fun" and hybrid in honda land? Prelude.
>>28740848Sounds about right. That lines up with Honda’s own brand of autism. Honestly wouldn’t be a bad daily driver to pick up in a few years without all the dealer “adjustments”
>>28731220>another example of Honda dumping millions of dollars into a Super GT platform that never ended up being sold as a roadcar.wtf this actually would've looked good as a production car
