Its wintertime and oil pressure is low with warm engine. Im going from 5w30 to 10w40 for extra thickness.

Thank you for your attention to this matter

Been thinking about dropping down from 10W-40 to 5W-30 in my old 351. Though everyone says it loves the thick oil. Pressure is a little over half the gauge in the summer.

Yes, so you should only be using OEM oil

I ONLY use RED LINE 5W40 in my BMWs

Does that help?

Why thin it then? If its good and not leaking with good pressure, leave it

Castrol is fine. And probably the engine has loosened after all these km’s. Internet says 10w40 is good for older engine. Im trying it out
>>
>>28733807
Cool oil plug thing.

I like castrol because i run it in my 03 gixxer 1000 for 65000km now without problems. Its good

So you trust the "internet" over the thousands of engineers and tribologists that spent years and millions of dollars to develop the optimal oil for these engines?
>>
>>28733867
Man, OP has a 90s shitbox lancer, it matters little what oil you dump in that heap as long as it has some inside the engine.
>>
>>28733867
Its not factory spec after 31 years.
>>
>>28733876
Today i found out1994 1.6 lancers share the same longblock as an evo. It actually has forged rods and a forged crankshaft.

Japs really made the best shit in the 90s
>>
>>28733897
All my BMWs have forged crankshafts, and all but the E39s have forged rods
>>
>>28733901
Yes but those are no econo shitboxes. This was and is an econoshitbox where they share rhe longblok from evo blocks, thats just sexy
>>

The evo was an economy car too though

Actual converter will turn the iron oxide into iron phosphate, I don't know the durability of a layer of phosphate though.
>>28733857
No I don't think so according to what the translation says. that stuff will remove the rust entirely so it's only good if you paint over it relatively immediately.

I should actually just use the converter I have on my truck's patina to have some actual experience with the stuff.
>>
>>28733935
>if you paint over it relatively immediately
after washing it off of course in case you didn't know that.

Not sure this was 6 years ago I don't know if she even drives still. Was supposed to visit last year. Hopefully I'll have time in December I want to see Christmas in Rome
>>
>>28733857
Rustyco is great, that pretty much removes the rust altogether.
>>
>>28733937
Yea it turned into a white gu. And after i washed it off it started rusting more ofcourse. But the panel is damaged so i dont really care. The left front metal is bent aswell. So i dont know how much more years this body will hold up
>>
>>28733941
>e39

Had to look it up. Its a nice one for sure. 6 inline i guess? Does it have aluminium intake?
>>
>>28733937
Depends on the product.
>>
>>28733960
Nice, Ok, i wi try to use it again and then just primer the panel for practice
>>
>>28733980
I got white and a bit nasty and the metal turned black, but i had a feeling the rust stopped
>>
>>28733984
It*
>>
>low oil pressure
do you know the accepted oil pressures for the engine
>>
>>28733988
I can look it up. But i think i found the problem. I bought new oil pressure sensor for engine, but its probably a chinesium prodduct. It cant handle the cold air outside and only on idle the light pops up.

In summertime with hot engine on idle it doesnt light up.
>>
>>28733991
So winter hot engine idle = oil light on
Summer hot engine idle = no light

Its the outside temp that messes with the sensor i think
>>
>>28733991
That sounds ass backwards to me, unless you're using tar for oil.
Also the cold shouldn't affect the oil pressure switch whatsoever.
>>
>>28734043
As the engine warms the tolerances tighten.
>>
>>28734043
It the outside air that can have an effect on the sensor it seems.
Im gonna order a official tm mitsubishi sensor to check
>>
>>28734053
And the oil get thinner the hotter it gets, so i was trying to use thicker oil to raise the pressure somewhat, but i looks like the pressure is ok. Havent measured it thoughtverbeit

Yea. Bad solenoids on 2 of them. But I tested everything else out first because the newfangled controllers on those cut the solenoid control signal to like 22V instead of 48V to GND when the pedal is pushed and I didn’t want to be jumping a bunch of power from a $1000 lithium battery. Next time I’m just going to start jumping power to stuff because YOLO.

I don’t know. It’s big though. I mean if that thing wasn’t lithium, it would be 8x deep cycle medium sized lead acid car batteries. The price works out when you look at it that way.

That big Samsung lithium battery has circuitry inside of it too and clicks off when you hit the “Run/Tow” switch which is a lot different than working on the lead acid carts. And there’s no good wiring diagram I could find for this stuff because it seems like these dealers sort of outfit the carts for the customer’s needs, like the 12V inverter for the headlights and 5V USB supply were wired in a way that didn’t look factory.
>>
>>28734095
it's not a word thoughbeit'nt'st've
>>
>>28734217
Sound like a nice project
>>
>>28734237
Nah it was kinda annoying. I was getting frustrated by the end of a day of poking around. My conclusion was either solenoid which go bad on carts, or controller issues and those things require a special 4 pin diagnostic tool to do anything with the controllers.

I called the dealer the next morning telling them everything it wasn’t, and got the advice to throw new solenoids in them before paying a tech to come out with the diagnostic computer.

Like I said, next time I’m just going to disconnect all 4 posts of the solenoid and jump 48V to the small pins and throw a fresh solenoid in if I don’t get a consistent healthy click.

The older 36V lead acid carts have a diagnostic mode that will throw some beeps at you with a series of pedal and switch presses that help narrow it down, but I also would be less hesitant to jump 36V around those things.

It's a 90's Mitsubishi, they're built like tanks. Might as well use Coca-Cola for oil.
>>
>>28734254

No lies. Cocacola was the recommended oil for years for mitsubishi, these newer engines just dont cut it

OP if you have low oil pressure when hot you have an oil circulation problem. The engine might have internal damage.
>>28733867
The anon you are mocking is right.
T. 24 year man in automotive.
Castrol stands above and apart. Use it, anons.
>>
>>28733867
>that spent years and millions of dollars to develop the optimal oil for these engines?
"Optimal" for the manufacturer doesn't necessarily mean the customer gets to keep the same car forever...
>>
>>28735902
But in summer when hot, on idle, it never lights up.

Only warm idle in winter.
It doesnt make sense?
>>
>>28736794
The added heat causes more expansion of the oil so it makes sense. You have an internal problem.
