If I were buying a new pickup it would be straight from the Heavy Duty class of their respective make. They don't have to comply as strictly with EPA regulations and as a result are much more ruggedly, and simply built. I mean, the 7.3 F250 HD costs as much as a similar trim F150. You're just getting more truck per $ at that point and no cylinder deactivation. MPG is probably from the 90s.
