Here's something I've always wondered when I read or hear about really bad accidents where the driver is ejected from the car... How? There's so much material in front of them including the dashboard and the steering wheel, and it comes up to the level of their chest, how can their entire body be thrown upward and over all that stuff and then through the glass?
A lot of force does funny things. I'd imagine they don't go through the windshield necessarily (internally) intact.
>>28741640True story: a kid was killed in my HS’s parking lot by going through the windshield. No seatbelt at ~10mph.You have a lot more momentum than you realize, even at very low speed.
I'm sure you've learned Newton's laws of motion at school
>>28741640>where the driver is ejected from the car... How?no seat belt. anyone have the dash cam clip that took place in a parking lot where a dumb bitch drives straight into the cam car and smacks her head right into the windscreen?
>>28741640The fleshy sack of meat you inhabit has a lot more give than you would expect when compared to a bunch of structural steel.
Steering wheel is round, and so is the dash.Center of gravity is over the recoil point of the steering wheelAnd the body is jelly-like to some degree. Also the car FLOPS upwards when you hit, it doesn't flop forward. That means the launch up is slightly upas well. One of the goals of crash testing, is to ensure the car bends moer forward than upward, but is going to happen regardless if you hit anything too low Hit the dash and the steering wheel, you still go up, the body flops, you keep going up, and then you go across the windshield and then can go flying .
No belts.
>>28741817i can't find it but there's a clip of some suv in the US that flies across the center median of a highway and rolls, and the woman driving goes flying at least 30 ft into the air full starfish, doing several cartwheels before finally landing
>>28741640When people are ejected they are very often extremely fucked up.As in, polytraumatized with several open fractures, visceral injuries, brain injuries. These people will often need to go straight to the operating room and go back a half dozen times in the first two weeks if they can make it that far.T. >>28741640>how can their entire body be thrown upward and over all that stuff and then through the glass?Because your center of gravity is in your torso. Car comes to a stop, inertia pushes on your CG, your torso moves forward while your legs get caught up with the dash and steering wheel, you start tumbling and roll over the wheel head first and out the windshield you go.
