Hello %\I own a 2002 miata with the vvt engine, while i was cruisin on the highway my engine turned off on its own. wouldn't start again. I got a tow home. it would crank, but it didn't sound like it was making any compression, and it made good oil presure when cranking.Once i got home I popped the valve cover off. Timing belt snapped. I'm wondering what's the least i can get away with for getging this engine up and running again? I already have a timing belt kit that I clearly should have put on a month ago, and I know I'll need a head gasket, but can I get away with just swapping a few of the valves? Or will I need a new head? will the piston be ok if valve and piston made contact?
>>28957071non interference engine
>>28957071why did you shop racing stripes on the tow truck?
>>28957071put the timing belt onusually you also replace the water pump at the same timeyou don't need a head gasket, you aren't removing the head
>>28957071You do not neee to touch the head gasket . Miata engines do not touch pistons to valves when the belt snaps (at least <2005). Just put on a new belt and set the timing correctly.

Sell your car and buy a bus pass OP you're far too retarded to figure any of this out.
>>28957071Why would you replace valves if they aren't bent? If they are bent you'll need an entirely new engine or a full rebuild including pistons, new head etc.Just get a timing belt kit. No need to do headgasket but may as well if its never been done before.
