Us Americans never got any of the reliable powerplants or neat transmission options, these cars are already unicorns as it is due to that.
Given the opportunity to import one, I still think I'd spring for a diesel-powered L322 Range instead however.

L322 was available with the bulletproof BMW M57 Diesel, and the P38 Was available with the Indestructible indirect injection BMW M51 Diesel with Manual gearbox

Land Rovers are not reliable. I would rather have a 2004 4.2L 6-cylinder Turbo Diesel Nissan Patrol.

It ain't my fault you didn't get the good engines...

would kill for a diesel patrol ute here in the states.

Too many electronic shit
>>
>>28977317
They're just very ugly and have the worst of both worlds monocoque on frame construction that weighs a ton with no real advantage of either.
>>
>>28977317
I like my car starting every time and finishing the journey to work every day without issue. I might put up with its struggles for a weekend car, but not something daily driver shaped.

Electronic what? The classic defender has barely anything in it. This is a 2016 model, and it doesn't even have airbags in it

Lol.
That thing has like 7" of rocker panel clearance.
I have a FSB with a 6" lift, 33's, 351w and lockers. I can replace the transmission with using a jack.

It's on airbags, that is the low position. It gets much taller in top position, and if it senses that it got stuck anyway it has a freakishly tall emergency mode to get itself out.

I saw a white one at work last week, it looked good.
The darkened rear windows really activated my almonds for some reason.
Pics not the one I saw, just a reference.

The Geometry and dimensions trigger me too.
They just don't fit here, aesthetically.

I'm a big fan of the vehicle, however.

same, have stock '95 hilux on stock 32" or so, no need for jack and in the rear I can actually squat under the bed.

wat
>>
>>28977317
Because I bought this with $50:
>unibody, low height, lightweight etc.
>manual gearbox
>8 seats
>real off road capability, FWD (not some 4x4 AWD locked diff American SUV super armored truck shit that gets stuck in a hard and level ground)
>reliable gasoline engine and manual gearbox combo
>100 hp
>studded tires for the winter, driving past your Land Rovers and 100k American trucks that are sliding and getting stuck

Last summer I moved 7500 kg of stuff with it. 12 trips. Americans have never even seen this type of things done in a car. They park their new KIA or 100k truck on a level dirt road with 10 bags of dirt and call it "off road". Enjoy your rollover, failed safety tests and broken plastic parts "made in US".
>>
>>28977696
Thats interesting but
>cant actually lift it to the max height on demand.
>only works after its high centered and senses its stuck.
>"offroad mode" is much lower than a stock FSB.
>max height (still lower than my bronco ride height) is basically just an automatic jack and has no suspension travel and you cant drive in that position.
>>
>>28977525
>351w

Bro. Just throw in an IDI or Powerstroke. You'll literally have more low end power and better fuel economy.
>>
>>28977881
>failed safety tests
the european mind cannot comprehend america
>>
>>28977317
As an American it looks like the US version, LR3, were only offered with front and rear independent suspensions and not solid axles, not very capable for demanding off road use.
Also I’m not a fan of European brands and their astronomical cost of parts, typical euro engineered/designed oddities, and higher labor cost if I ever take it to a specialty shop.

What's the resale value of Land Rovers compared to Patrol. Find me a Land Rover with more than 300k km

lmao
>>
>>28977317
Because a 2004 Suburban is better in every way. A manual doesn't make any sense in a big SUV and manuals just gimp your off road performance.
>>
>>28979011
Ok, here's a 320,000 mile (515k km) Defender.
>>
>>28979011
the thing is, a patrol is worthless. none wants to buy it. a land rover is epic, everyone wants to buy it.
>>
>>28979011

>not white
I would killmyself if I would be American. Thankfully I was born as white, blond, blue eye, tall first world Norwegian. Here, we drive FWD shitboxes with 75 hp with thin small studded tires in places your monster cucktrucks would not be able to. We watch American crash compilations when it is slightly ice somewhere and you drive into a wall.

>>28977352
>good engines
It isn't just the engines that made these unobtanium in north america, the whole package was trash
>shit sheet metal
>shit electronics
>frames rust like they designed to rot away in a few years
>problems with the steering hardware
>did I mention electronics issues?
>>

Lol.
Nobody gives a shit about Norway.
If your entire counyry vanished it would take a month for anyone on the planet to realize it.
>>
>>28979209
I didn't read a single word of this because you're objectively wrong and I don't care. You don't even understand what you're saying. Sad.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha

Youre a blip in the international world.
A rounding error.
>>
>>28977317
>body on frame
false. Disco 3 onwards is monocoque like the L322 Range Rover they're based on
>manual
dogshit underrated one from a 3 Series that shatters like glass off road
>reliable diesel
those early Ford-era TDV6s were overly complex pigs designed to exploit EU laws that incentivised diesel at the time.

the only post-2004 Landys worth anything are the Defenders. the only Discos worth anything are D1s and D2s, particularly the ones with the 300tdi.
>>
>>28978241
i had one of these god i miss him so much. engine blew up at 237k because bearings were fucked from previous owner. i was thinking about replacing them when doing rear main cause i didn't trust the spic i bought it from, then it threw a rod.
>>
>>28979308
LR3 and LR4 have a monocoque body on a ladder frame.
>>
>>28979559
they are really neat little cars and tremendously fun to drive for how slow they are, its a good experience overall. i hate how heavy and boatish modern cars feel.
>>

nope, they stuck with the old TDIs and Rover V8s for the military trucks
>>28979301

>>28979308
>not knowing the d3 is BOF
>not knowing the manual is solid
>not knowing the real problem with the engine is the snappy cranks
