You could either ignore this advice or take it from me. The facts are me and my friendo live in South florida, and he is a financial manager at carmax.
>44 of the trucks sold in this year were traded in to downgrade in earlier models or sold back. To purchase an older truck that is in reasonable condition.
>pic related.
Im beginning to notice these trucks going up in value and some selling with 300,000 plus miles.

(Me op)
And this goes for the older lexus cars , the older American cars lincoln mercury ford crown vic/ the buicks the cadillacs the oldsmobile volvo etc

People can't afford to take their truck to the dealership. They're hoping to diy repair or realistically avoid repairs by getting a simpler more affordable truck.

In reality, they have neither the knowledge nor toolset to diagnose and repair a 20-30yo vehicle and are flushing money down the drain.

If you didn't grow up working on vehicles with your dad it's unironically over for you.

I like ops with the forest green, always have liked them with the extended cab an a mile lift wheels and tire combo.
>>
>>28978133
Mild*
>>
>>28978125
I also forgot to mention that these are people with money doing this.
As if they finally realized or woke up to the conclusion that any truck will do the same thing as my $100,00 luxury getter can

For me, it's the first gen prefacelift Tundra.

Having old things will be the new sign of wealth. New tech is not only ugly and a guaranteed financial loss but unreliable and a guarantee that you'll constantly be spending time to replace it.
>>
>>28978125
>If you didn't grow up working on vehicles with your dad it's unironically over for you.
eh, this isn't really the case. my dad hates cars and never really did any work on cars. i just learned all my shit off youtube and in 2 years have yet to run into an issue on an old car that I don't know how to fix.

you are right about flushing money down the drain though. i don't want to know how much money i've spent on tools
>>
>>28978125
DIY is easier than ever. You can get full video tutorials on youtube for free, not some janky paid software with text only instructions. You can get parts and tools delivered to your door.
>>
Yeah them early 2000s V8 half tons are as good as they get. Jelly Beans might be ugly but are probably the most reliable. Still staying on my ninth gen Ford tho.

Sad.
>>
>>28978282
Yeah except a late 90s 5.4 isn't exactly a firebreather yet it still sends them into the atmosphere, unable to handle its face-melting 235 hp.
>>
>>28978301
I see 220k+ mile 5.4s all the time. I suspect the spark plug issue from over 20 years ago has been addressed. All the upper 300k miles trucks I see are 4.6 but those are immortal.
>>
>>28978306
The real immortal ones were the inline 6 300 and the inline 4 in the ranger with 8 spark plugs.
>>
>>28978098

Wow, out of 1 million trucks sold 44 of them were returned?

These are ugly and they are gutless dogs.

There will be 2 types of people.
Those in restored Freedom Vehicles and those in Patriot Act spymobiles.
It will coincide heavily with ethnicity and IQ, regardless of financial status.
>>
>>28978146
They look good. Shame about the frame rust issues.
>>
>>28978442
I don't think so. I've got two, white, normie couples I know and they most definitely will keep up with the Jones', no matter what. A bit sad, really. But they'll be going in on the Patriotmobiles balls deep for the rest of their lives.
>>
>>28978098
I live in the north, clean versions of these simply do not exist
>>
>>28978184
It already is. Restored trucks are 6 figs and ride like dogshit. Basically anyone with an old ass truck has a new truck too.

I wish I could sell my first Gen Cummins for what I have in it but it won't move unfortunately.

Trucks from this era are so UGLY. Ford Chevy and toyota all got together and said

This is not an arguement for thinking blob trucks look good. Anyone who prefers those over square body is gayer than boy george

Buying one of these is just cope for not getting a clean squarebody or OBS Chevy/Ford. People are settling for these now because they have hit rock bottom in value.
>>
>>28978745
I have a bull nose and a jelly bean (among others).

Theoretical top speed of an 80-86 Bronco is 87 mph.
Because it has the aerodynamics of a barn.
I've been there. Its scary as shit. Luckily I had a little u-haul trailer acting as a kite tail otherwise I probably would have wound up in a ditch.

So theres a balance.
Between "dude that thing looks so fucking cool" and "man this thing drives like a bat out of hell".
>>
>>28978098
My 97 GMC gets some compliments can't lie. My neighbor has told me he wants to buy it off me. But I'm gonna hang onto it until it needs a new motor. I got it for $2600 so it's great news that they're becoming more desirable.
>>
Story time:
In 2002 my grandfather bought a 2wd extended cab
In either 2003 or 2004 he was diagnosed with terrible colon cancer
Truck didn't get driven much, he clung onto life for another 3 years but really it was hell for 3 years
To this day my grandmother still has that truck and drives it sparingly, she even puts a sheet on the inside to keep it from getting dusty
Sad story anons, he bought that truck probably with so much unknown about what was to come :(
>>
>>28978125
>>28978109
>>28978103
>>28978098
Yeah, because of aerodynamics and weight, without hybridization, its almost impossible to get trucks to perform the same duties while also decreasing emissions and increasing MPG in a substantial way without sacrificing reliability and serviceability.

Combined with malicious engineering, and Ford/Chevy trucks up until about 2010 are just plain superior to everything that came afterwards.

You just will fucking NOT get good gas mileage. You just fucking WON'T. So don't use them if you don't need to.

cars peaked in the late 2010s, right before Adaptive Cruise Control become omni present along with a host of other technologies that are just plain fucking crap.

I'd say Mazda was the peak.
>>
>>28978840
Put some.l of grand dad's ashes in a little pouch and hang it from the rear view mirror so he can go for drives again
>>
>>28978842
I've really never even understood the point of adaptive cruise
>>
>>28978240
>Jelly Beans might be ugly but are probably the most reliable
Yeah for sure. That's why everybody Triton swaps shit. Oh wait.
>>
>>28978867

Its bordering on being a self driving car on the highway. If you have a long highway commute it can do a lot of the work for you.
>>
>>28978867
It depends where you live. Here at least the lifeforms piloting their vehicles can fucking not hold their speed and refuse to use cruise control. That means I have to be constantly adjusting my fucking CC speed to avoid rear ending them. I can't even use my CC most of the time because of these fucking lifeforms. If I had adaptive cruise I could just sit there and chill.
>>
>>28978901
If "matching speed" is too difficult of a chore then you shouldnt have control of the wheel to begin with and its better for society if you just trade in your license for a bus pass.
>>
>>28978920

I don't have a car with adaptive cruise control. I also don't have a highway work commute; but if I'd been busting my ass at work all day and I had a long highway commute home I can't say that I'd be above letting the car drive itself.
>>
>>28978923
>the car drive itself.
Ive never thought that in my entire life.
What are you, like 22?
You think your car is going to be a rogue like R2D2, just "doing its thing"?
It's going to be controlled by central command.
You embraced it and fucked over everybody after you.
>>
>>28978932

I'm 42. Have you ever worked 12 hours and been so exhausted that you were barely able to make it home? I have. That's when I wished that my car could drive itself.

I find it immensely funny how younger gens are treating OBDII-era vehicles the same way boomers treated stuff from the 60s. thinking they can 'shadetree' a car with EFI and plastic body panels. no matter how old a car from 2002 gets, it will never be something you can fix with a hammer and some wood like you could a carbed car.

lmao you've never worked on a car

early 2000s cars are some of the easiest to work on, you have all the benefits of modern systems like efi and obd-2 with none of the downsides.

I'm 41, I regularly put in 16 hour days on my farms. Rarely do I ever have a day that is less than 12 hours. This is 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Are you some kind of weakling?

>I suspect the spark plug issue from over 20 years ago has been addressed.

The Cal-van spark plug kit is 230 bucks and includes all the tools to properly repair 8 cylinders in total with bomb-proof time-sert style thread inserts. It's easy and can be done in the vehicle. Blown spark plugs are literally a nothing-burger these days akin to having to change an alternator or water pump.
>>
>>28979388
I think I would rather just buy something that doesn't need the spark plug threads timeserted to be as good as literally anything else.

>>
>>28979385
I barely work at all. Never understood people who brag about how shitty and poor their life is. Hard work doesn't get you anything in life. It's all about connections. There's no point in bragging about destroying yourself physically.
