Is there anywhere left where you can just sit your ass down and say: "I am going to build a house here and nobody can stop me"? I would like to build a cabin (like this guy https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YyeHcBrp0Ws) I do not want to own the land, and I want to stay only a season or two. Gold claims in alaska/canada seem like the most viable option, but I'm sure somebody knows more about this than I do. Input much appreciated :]
>>2775424>I want to stay only a season or twoGet a prospector tent and a wood stove.
>>2775425I would, however the idea is more about improving my woodworking skills, and having the experience of building a structure than just *being* in the wilderness.
>>2775426Build a 1:25 exact scale model.
>>2775427Haha, funny you say that, I have a little bundle of sicks on my table for that exact purpose.
>>2775424almost everywhere has squatters rights. if you manage to build, work, and improve the land for like 7 years then you own it. you gotta get away with trespassing for a looong time though
>>2775431That's scummy (and unrealistic). I'm not going to intrude on another's property. Would I build something in a far off corner of some public land? Maybe, but not on some individuals property.
>>2775424Try building a shed or something first to practice. It was a lot harder than I thought and I learned a lot of things for if I build a real structure next.. also kind of expensive
>>2775424I think in Canada the only way this would work is if you managed to lease Crown land. But the gov in Canada ofcourse doesn't want people just living out there, you have to have a reason, usually commercial. I think the easiest way would be to open a maple syrup operation and then you can maybe get a 99 year lease to build whatever you want on the land. Ofcourse canada has a byzantine bureaucracy and almost everything is illegal and selectively enforced on a whim. so idk.
>>2775435BasedYou can do a lot with just a chainsaw and a chainsaw mill Try not to burn the forest down or injure animals (ie if you hunt then dont fuck it up)
>>2775426Then don't go shit up the woods with your cabin. If everyone did this they'd chop down the woods and turn it into the eternal shantytown that they're trying to escape from
>>2775424Not very many. I built a little cabin with a friend on the Sunshine Coast. It was nice it had a lower floor a wood stove in it that he brought up their piece of time he built a swing out front and upstairs was a loft and a place to sleep for the night. It was okay until Bunches of Out of Towners found it and started bringing up all this trash and then finally one group of assholes went and took it over for a week and left tins and garbage everywhere. She put a big chain through it and combination lock with a cell phone number that you could call to get them to unload him to unlock it. You need a lot of tools for that. You need some way to drop trees, some way to peel the logs, some way to haul them around, some way to fit them together, you can use smaller trees for your Rafters but it is better to use Alaskan meal to stop some Lumber for that. Then you need some way to make a waterproof roof on it not tricky
>>2776947Well you just convinced me to go clear a spot and start building a cabin retreat.
>>2776186Don't know about other provinces, but in Quebec you can lease or buy public lands for personal use. Red rape seems like a hassle though:https://www.quebec.ca/en/housing-territory/lease-purchase-public-land/obtain-lot/conditions-leasing

>>2775424In almost every jurisdiction you can build an “agricultural shed” and then just live in it as if it was a house without telling the authorities. If they catch on either:1. Enough time will have elapsed to formalise it as a residential property 2. They will not actually be able to stop you as it’s your land and you can’t actually be removed. Most of the legislation deals with what you’re allowed to erect. Once that’s up there’s not much the authorities can do.
