is this the worst /out/ place in America?
>>2778329No. The worst /out/ in America are the flat states which are nothing but farms.
>>2778329I would probably pick the flat lands with no trees. North middle and south east (like the west coast of florida)
>>2778340(Those are my least favorite for landscape)
>>2778329>worst /out/ place in America>PA has dozens of big state parks + a giant NF>New York likewise + Adirondacks>Green Mountains of Vermont>White Mountains of NH>The entire northern half of MaineThe fuck are you on about OP?
Yes. You cannot even walk in tall grass without running the serious risk of Lyme Disease
>>2778452I live in Northern WI where the risk is just as high as the Northeast and I've never had a serious problem with keeping myself safe. Sure you get ticks on you sometimes, but getting them off is easy and as long as you do it right away when you notice them the risk of contracting an illness is pretty low.I feel like all the fear mongering is mostly from Westies who have never been /out/ in the East and never really had to manage heavy tick exposure. Yeah you gotta be mindful of it, but it's not as bad as you guys make it sound.
>>2778453Why is WI such a hotspot for Lyme? It came from CT (or NY, depending on who you ask) and appeared to skip over several states to peak in WI, and basically nowhere else. What gives? Was it some unlucky bastard on a hunting trip to new england who brought back a bunch of ticks?
>>2778463Did immigrants bring it over?
>>2778463Probably an artifact from places that actually test for it.
>>2778340Agreed, the Dakotas most particularly. Rather a lot of the desert Southwest also seems pretty hellish to me in terms of its unrelieved lack of leafy canopies or neighborhoods or wooded areas to explore. I'd rather live in or around the Twin Cities, and put up with the six months of winter, than endure anywhere near Vegas or Phoenix.
>>2778329No, that's not a map of texas
>>2778539>taking this map seriously Shiggy
>>2778416The NF in PA is kinda meh, there's a reservoir, and a few trails - most backpacking oriented, but not actually a lot of stuff. PA has a lot of interesting stuff, but the vast majority is on state game lands or state forest lands and takes a bit of searching to find. Honestly the biggest issue is just in the NE/SE trees grow so fast that overlooks need to have the trees pruned every 10-15 years to maintain the views, and they don't really do that, but there's a lot of views that would be spectacular if they just cleared the damn trees. It's funny they have no problem clear-cut logging 99% of the state, but just maintaining some overlooks is too much to ask.
>>2778539lets vote on a new version of this mapA made a poll for it a while back but mods deleted it eventually for some reasonhttps://strawpoll.com/eNg6v6R14gA/results
>>2778539The first time this got posted was a good day for trolling. I'd say it was epic if this was 2012. And out had existed then.
>>2778637>>2778639would be nice if people could actually talk about the hikes they've done, and not this generic "which state is the best" autism
>>2778329>is this the worst /out/ place in America?3rd worst. Worst is the flyover midwest. 2nd worst is the "sawthe" 3rd worst is NE. 4th worst is the west coast.>WHAT ABOUT THE SW??!That's Mexico.
>>2778641Don't we do that too? Can you see most of this board?
>>2778651>Don't we do that too?not really, people just scream about gatekeeping and ruining their favorite trails
>>2778651>Don't we do that too? Most of this board is autistic screeching over brand loyalty, autistic screeching over people living in the wrong places and autistic screeching over people doing things THE WRONG WAY.
>>2778656>>2778666Why are you still here then?
>>2778671it could be a better place, and it's always on the verge of improving
>>2778329Yes
>>2778671I ask myself this daily.
>>2778639>The first time this got posted was a good day for trollingit's good for trolling because it's true. The more states you've /out/ed in, the more biomes you've outed in, and the more activities you've tried (mountains, hunting, diving, caving etc.), the more you realize how accurate it is
>>2778610>east coasties have to cut down trees just for views
the adirondacks clears the west coast and their straight shot, smooth terrain baby hikes
>>2778828yup, that's how it works, unless you have a rock at a cliff's edgemajestic gaps through the trees are the bestyou have no idea how many places I've been where there would be a majestic view if only they cut some trees down
I really miss the Adirondack mountains. About the only thing I miss about Jew York State. I used to get off work and go straight to the Saranac river. Many a nights spent camping on Moose Pond or the Rainbow Narrows. I truly miss it. Oh well. The state is unlivable now, at least I got to do that stuff.
>>2778452Ticks are only bad March-May and a little bit in October.
Literally peak waterfall season with all this rain. You are taking advantage of that, right?
>>2778842>adirondacks
>>2779155that state park is huge. It stretches from north of albany to canada, and then lake champlain almost to buffalo. Andrew Cuomo wouldn't know the adirondacks if it fucked his nipple pierced zesty ass.
>>2779236Which bed and breakfast should I stay at in the park?
>>2778877I hate trees so much bros
>>2779236>almost to buffaloGod I wish. It's a 4-5 hour drive to the Western Adirondacks, and 6-7 to the High Peaks
>>2778416Maybe he means the worst places for gargling cock.
>>2779314Go to the high peaks you fucking retard. The APA was set up to guide development to areas that won’t affect the backcountry. It is the second largest park in the country. Figure it out
>>2778842What's the toughest climb in the Adirondacks, then? Whatever you claim, I guarantee I can find something in the Sierras that's harder in every way in about 30 seconds.
>WV>worst out in Americaretard
>>2779659Not that anon but hiking is gay and you are a good example of why. The nice thing about the Adirondack is all of the lakes and rivers and primitive camp sites and general wilderness. The only people who care how good you are at walking up a shitty trail are other faggots like yourself and (very few) women.
>>2779815>The nice thing about the Adirondack is all of the lakes and rivers and primitive camp sites and general wilderness.None of this exists in the western US, so stay out.
>>2779815Easterner here? My wife and I have a second home in North Caronlina already but I have been interested in upstate and Vermont for a third. Which bed and breakfast is best in the adirondacks and how close is the nearest starbucks? It has to have reliable internet. Were in our 60s so the hike shouldn't be too difficult.
>>2778539All of the 1's on this map are great for urban exploration, except Texas
>>2779659https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYF1_RQhVLA
>>2779855>urban explorationDisaster tourism
>>2778539how is nj a 1?
>>2779919shit mountains are shit and public land is too regulated (e.g. no backcountry camping)
>>2779815>he doesn't even hike for patches
>>2779852You know nothing of the high peaks region. The APA was created to guide development away from the natural landscapes. It’s the second largest park in the country and you can find yourself in some of the most remote areas in the nation. I’m sorry you’ve only been drawn to the tourist traps.
>>2779936Ay! Saranac Lake's a nice place. Been camping there a few times.
>>2779155That's genuinely just Cascade. Don't know why every single Chinese/Québécois tourist wants to do that hike, but it's packed there without fail. Marcy and Haystack are better hikes - Algonquin is still too touristy since it's a shorter trail from the Loj.
>>2779879The trap dike is a fun hike/climb, definitely wouldn't say it's the ADKs (or even just the high peak's) most dangerous. South face of Gothics direct is definitely more sketchyhttps://www.mountainproject.com/area/106057854/gothics
>>2779953Don't try to convince them - we're full. The ADK (and north country broadly) is a hidden gem and basically the only beacon of hope for people trapped in the upstate city hellscapes because of work or family. Honestly the last thing I want to see or hear on a week-long hike in Keene is some retard who lives in a new suburban development in Colorado at the foot of the Rockies and thinks that he's basically Edmund Hillary by virtue of being in a mountainous region. These are oversocialized people who go out because they want the social appearance of being a competent outdoorsman - not because they actually appreciate nature. You can tell from his immediate fixation on technical difficulty, which is funny given you can find technically demanding multipitch climbs in essentially any state in the US other than the Great Plains
>>2779953>falls for b8>screeches out reeeeing reeeelol.
>>2778329I live in NH and tried some late season dispersed camping last weekend and I am not joking every fucking free site had a van or camper from mass or NYC (most with satellite dishes), even the places that are too small for campers and vans had smaller van set ups. Saw only one tent while driving around my usual places for THREE fucking hours trying to find somewhere. I ended up parking on the side of the road in national forest and hiking just deep enough innawoods nobody but bears would bother us. was not ideal but I wish I just did that right off the rip instead of thinking maybe maybe maybefucking infuriating desu, they use all 14 free days without fail and don't even pay what little taxes the state collects to maintain the frankly very limited public land here. fuckers should have their vans possessed by the state and sent back to boston to eat shit and die in the filthy salt and asphalt snowI lived here until I was 20 and was looking forward to returning earlier this year but I keep running into bullshit you dont notice as a kid that makes me want to go back to the midwest, especially in regards to draconic land use and hunting lawsat least my wife (m) got this really cute fumo photo op
>>2778537The Black Hills around Mt Rushmore are pretty awesome, lots of plateaus and varied landscapes. The rest of the Dakotas look like shit
Probably not
