/fgt/ daily reminder (courtesy by anon): one stop per decade is (generally) bullshit
>negative film ages better than positive
>black and white better than color
>slow films better than fast
>storage conditions (dry/cool) matter more than years
>Negative film is shot 1 or 2 stops overexposed and then PULLED in development so that you build more density in the exposure and develop less such that the fog is limited
>slide/positive film is shot at box speed or overexposed and pulled.
>if you home develop you can also use benzotriazole as a restrainer for the the first developer in E6 process

Want to screw around with slide film but not enough of a dumbass to pay $20+ a roll for Ektachrome. Who resells the Eastman Ektachrome movie film respooled for the least amount of money? Best I've found is ~$14/roll which is still a lot.

Dirty negatives with dog hair, but at least it's another dog and not in the farm

I realized I don't care anymore. Even if I "fixed" all my problems there are still subhumans that will continue to obsess over me, and something I did months to years ago.

Just wait until I develop my 10+ feet of 70mm trix... I hope you like sheep. Lol.
>>
just found out Kentmere 400 Pan pushed to 3200 is better than Ilford Delta 3200 at 3200 wtf
>I realized I don't care anymore
that's good
I was just teasing you (and the other guy too; write in french however the fuck you want lol)
Being totally honest, since you've offered useful criticism in the past:
I find your photos a bit too repetitive, but that's nothing inherently wrong with that
I don't care about the doghair and dust as well, although I would rather not have them in my photos, and I believe that if you ever print your photos you'll clean the negatives beforehand so whatever
But I've been liking your cattle/farm animal shots
>>4298912
you could have gotten a bit closer or further away
further would be good to show the landscape, closer would be good to make us pay attention to the cow
this way it looks like we're trying to see the landscape and then there's this cow staring at us, or that we're trying to see this specific cow but there's a lot of unnecessary information all around it
>cont
>>
>>4300883
>>4299054
could be closer, we know the subjects are the goats but they don't take the space they should
we don't want to see patches of grass
Depth of field doesn't help either, not everything needs to be in focus
>>4299055
I like this one, but I'd still get closer to crop a bit of the left right side, a big chunk of the right side and a lot of the blank sky on top
>>4299552
>>4299611
your dog is cute as fuck, of course
and those are good photos for a memory album etc. but they're not very appealing in the sense that in the end they're pretty much all the same
>>4300598
now THIS is a way more interesting shot of your dog
the subject is not the problem
it's just that you portray them the same way over and over again
same pose, same distance, same everything
gets tiring
>>4300433
I love this one
Goat being weird and looking like they have a second tiny head coming out is great
>>4300555
this one is shit
the cables are weird as fuck merging with the roof
the way things are presented looks like it's a crop from another way bigger picture
>>4300562
love the texture but the framing is very poor, I feel like it could be an amazing shot if you took the time to either 'get rid' of the confusing background or use it to your favour in the composition
the way it is we can't even understand what's this thing the cobwebs are on

That's it for now
>One last thing
Using a 4x5 is cumbersome etc. and this aerial camera you got is pretty big too but still more portable and practical, I believe
Use it to experiment a bit more, if you so desire
Could be good for you to test out new things
New subjects, new ways of shooting, new angles, new lights
Don't stop shooting and posting photos, though
I'd rather see 10 of your dog photos instead of a *photography* thread that's a wall of text with no photos whatsoever
>>
>>4300873
maybe stop abusing your mod powers and being annoying about your snapshits

>>4300887
>>4300883
Thank you very much for taking the time to provide some honest critique.

That building one is a crop of a 4x5 test shot. I sort of enjoy it as an abstract, but I need to make it better somehow. Why is abstract so difficult?

The braindead trolls do not realize this, but sometimes confining yourself to one or only a few subjects can really get your creativity flowing, and provide a great challenge. Occasionally I do fall into a rut of sameness, but then again, I haven't really been taking many pictures of my dog lately.

Thanks again!

>>4300891
you're welcome, man
and yes, having one or a couple subjects can also be a way to explore, for sure
but that means finding new ways to shoot that same subject
shoot your dog if that's what you like, of course
but maybe find other interesting ways to do so
What do you like about them?
Their ears are very pointy, their snout is sharp and cute, why not take macros?
or maybe embrace the dog hair meme and shoot their fur for an abstract photo
could be a good shot
You know and love your dog more than anyone, use that to your favour to find interesting ways of shooting them

Test shot, 4x5 crop just to post a picture. Still kinda cool. This crop is roughly the size of a 35mm negative. Maybe a little smaller.

>>4300929
A lot of it comes from one guy that followed me from /an/. I know this for a fact because he brings up stuff I posted from over a year ago in the dog general. That whole janny thing is from months ago, and the "jumping in sewer water" thing is from even longer ago. It was just a hole in the ground that filled with rain water...

I really just need to ignore it, but it can be tough sometimes.

My challenge still stands to anyone interested.

Take an incredible, mind blowingly good 4x5 macro shot, prove it was with a 4x5 camera, and timestamp the negative. Must be at least a 1:1 magnification.

If it's good enough I won't post my dog all willy nilly like I do. Only superb shots of him, and very infrequently.

People calling a shit photo shit doesnt ruin the thread. The critique you receive is valid and justified. Its your reactions that ruin threads. Lets say i poast my aussie on /an/, and my best film shots are aussie themed. I am not posting a good photo with critique because your paranoia fits will align with the stars and start more drama because you and then someone else go “omg i knew it, it was the guy with the aussie because he doesnt like my snapshit! he must also the /an/ poster who doesnt like my dog because that ones doesnt like my snapshits either!” but, i am not leto, my computer cant even run an AI spambot, and for fucks sake the pet photo contest was cross linked on /an/ and you directed people from the fish thread to here you dont have a stalker

Only got the 50mm 1.8, unfortunately. So I guess the the 50mm 1.8. I got it from a friend who used to work for polaroid, came with macro tubes and the original receipt, just needed to replace the seals and the leather. I like it a lot, really solid and compact.
>>
>>4300998
The latest version of the 50mm f1.8 (no letters, just “ZUIKO MC”) is nearly leica-sharp on film. Replace your 50 with that if possible.

Also
>24mm f2.8, non-MC, flares more but sharper
>35mm f2.8, newest ones (just ZUIKO
MC) are better, not super sharp ever
>135mm f2.8, only good portrait lens that isnt 100% ruined by collectors
>35-70 f3.6, rare usable vintage zoom

I can and will accept valid criticism. I often do, but there's a difference between constructive, and seething/trolling. I'm going to try and ignore it best I can. The trolls are retarded and their opinions will never be changed.

Your entire essay is goofy, and weirdly schizo. I never directed anyone from aqg here, accused anyone of being leto, and I didn't even know there was a pet photo contest!

What I said, and clearly showed was that leto created the false screenshots of me being a janny, so believing that is siding with a confirmed evil ass animal abuser. Very simple.

Please explain what it means when someone references a post I made from over a year ago on /an/? Is it just coincidence?

Most of the costs from retailers come from the importation taxes and profit margins that are added along the way (a little cut for the transportation, the distributor, the retailer etc. that in the end add up a big chunk)
And yes, I could forward the package from the US but I'd still have to pay the taxes and fees, which would be cheaper for sure, but still expensive
If I get a friend to bring it from abroad there's a reasonable chance that I can just pay the retail price from abroad and nothing else (unless customs decide to tax it)
In a best case scenario someone would bring me from abroad and not pay taxes, which would mean something like ~40% less in the final price than having it forwarded from the US

Light leaks are an easy fix anyway
First of all, try and find out if the leaks are in the back and not somewhere else like the body or the rotating part
Remove the lens and shine a bright light in it. Open up the back (while still having the metal plate) and check to see if everything is okay. Maybe the bellows have holes in them, or the mirror is out of place and letting light in, or something like that
When you do find out you'll probably be able to repair it yourself with foam stripes

Hey Minoltabros! Does anyone have a Rokkor 35mm f1.8 lens (HH or MD)? is it worth it's price? Is it much better than f2.8?

I plan to use it on both film SLRs and ILCE cameras. I just feel so stupid buying 40 year old glass for 300 euros when I can buy E-mount AF Samyang lens for the same price.

This is weird as fuck, I've never seen anything like it
I can't even imagine what could cause this
We can see the lights go beyond the edge, so it can't be a problem with the lens
I believe it can't be the body since it's pretty much just a box
I would assume it has something to do with the pressure plate because it's the only thing I could think about, but I don't know how it could have an effect like in your negatives
I hope someone else can help you because I truly can't even think what could cause this

Information on domestic introduction of color negative film “FUJIFILM 400”
Dear customers
Thank you very much for your continued patronage of Fujifilm products.
Sales of "Fujicolor SUPERIA X-TRA 400" will end as soon as the stock runs out. In line with this, we will be introducing ``FUJIFILM 400'', a color negative film sold overseas, into Japan from today."

Ah shuck that sucks.
Not unexpected but I am still sad that there is no escape from Kodak's artificial warmness now.
>>
>>4301350
Could be. Are they long exposures? Maybe the motor is triggering at the wrong time for some reason?
>>4301369

>>
>>4301369

I haven't used this new Fuji 400, but I loved Superia so much
It's probably my favourite colour film
Are they that much different?
>picrel shot on Superia

>>4301398
You gotta be really fucking dumb not to understand that having one less colour film stock from a major company and getting a substitute instead of an addition to their portfolio is not something to be celebrated
>hurr I don't like this stock
Don't buy it, then
We're talking about a very niche market having even less options and this specific formula being pretty much lost forever
We literally have only Kodak, Fuji and Harman as major players in the film industry, and Harman is just now starting to experiment with colour film
So again: you gotta be a really dense moron to cheer with such news
>not that a nophoto could ever comprehend that, of course
>>
>>4301403
Superia was really bad. A loss for the poor “lomography” market for sure but any kodak stock is better.

Not ALWAYS WAS, there was another version a long time ago that was better than the shit they sold recently.

You still don't understand that it's not about "I don't like how it looks" and it's more about "we're marching towards a monopoly in a niche market with only Kodak as a major player producing colour film leading to film price increasing even more and us being in the hands of only one company", do you?
Even if it was "hurr the poor lomography durr" (which doesn't even make sense, how is picrel "lomo" at all?), there are people who like those films and shoot them and if there weren't those films it would mean less people shooting film
Which is less labs, less film companies, less sales in chemicals etc. etc.
We're not talking about the car market or something, we're talking about film
And I want as much people as possible shooting film, even if it's stocks I don't like
If you can't understand this, then you'll keep on thinking it's about "film stocks I like"
Btw why do you care so much about film stocks if you're a nophoto?

USA! USA! USA!

Kodak just lowered prices again btw. Color film, adjusted for inflation, is now cheaper than average.
>inb4 muh wage
Work harder lol we're in a new industrial revolution. Todays cotton workers will go broke because of todays cotton gin, so go back to school and learn to do something only skilled humans can do if you want more than UBI.
>>
>>4301423
>Kodak just lowered prices
Oh that means that if we have a Kodak monopoly the prices will be even lower!
Great plan!
>Work harder lol
You're the one who can't afford shooting, apparently ):
Haven't seen you post one single photo thus far
>>
>>4301377
Yeah they were 2 second-ish exposures, I'll try to time the shutter today
>>
>>4301435
I don't really know anything about the power winders but since there are no electrical pins I assume they are triggered by the same mechanical pin as the double exposure protection. On my pro-S body that pin comes out at the beginning of the exposure so I don't know how it would know the exposure is complete. Maybe it has a hardcoded delay and 2s exposure is just not supported? I would play around with it with no film in and listen to see when it starts winding at different shutter speeds.
>>
>>4301454
>>4301435
yeah, did you do this?
http://mamiya.org/content/RB_6x8_Power_back.pdf
>>
>>4301421
Just because Fuji is pulling out doesn't mean there are other companies willing to fill the non-kodak market.

Kodak may be mainstream but they will not be the monopoly.
>>
>>4301101
>>4301103
These are crap

>>4301104
This is not but could have been more formal to emphasize the unnatural arrangemetn

Something you could find on google images by searching "goat" vs. something you could not, simple as.

Also clean your fucking negatives it's disgusting
>>
>>4301458
Yeah desu I don't recall the settings I used for the back but I'll shoot a test roll and take note of them
Maybe I was using it wrong
>>
>>4301465
1. What other *significant player* produces colour film apart from Kodak and Fuji? If Fuji is out, there's literally only Kodak left. Harman is still experimenting with their first ever color film. You can't seriously compare Phoenix to any Kodak or Fuji colour film.
2. Therefore yes, they'd be a monopoly for color film. Monopoly doesn't necessarily mean 100% of market share btw. If they have like 98% of all colour film produced they're still a monopoly.

>Just because Fuji is pulling out doesn't mean there are other companies willing to fill the non-kodak market.
>willing
*Willing* is not the same as *being able to*
Harman is *willing* to make colour film
But they don't have the know how, the experience, the supply chain for broad distribution, the machinery to produce as much film as Kodak
Other companies don't have any of that and also don't have the resources for research and development
It also takes time, it's trial and error
And Harman would still be the only one trying to develop a new colour film if Fuji were out of the race

And then again, I'll return to my first and central point which is:
Anyone who isn't a complete and utter moron understands that having one less colour film stock is not something to be celebrated
If you don't like the colours or whatever, then don't buy it
It's not merely about taste, it's about comprehending the market, the future perspectives and how it affects the film industry in general

Anyway, enough talking about Fuji's marketing decisions
Whatever we say won't magically change the future
This is a film /photography/ thread and as always there's very little actual photography
I was posting a photo along with every reply but it gets tiring seeing that at one point I had posted a third of all the images in the thread

First of all, I was not saying that we WILL have a monopoly
I was saying that cheering because Superia got discontinued is moronic as fuck, and that in a hypothetical scenario with Fuji discontinuing their colour films there would be a monopoly for Kodak in the colour film segment
Which is absolutely true in this scenario. Prove me wrong if you think so.
I'm not saying this scenario *will* happen, I'm saying cheering for discontinuations is stupid
I'm not a doomer
Also look up the definition of monopoly, it's not "when a company owns 100% of the market", it's more along the lines of when one company owns an expressive majority of said market and basically controls it
Anyway, I'll not entertain this discussion even further because what I've said before is clearly written and I'm not defending what you say I'm defending, I'm not a doomer
Refer to the beginning of the discussion for futher clarification

If YOUR photos are not "dog hair covered snapshits" then post them
If they're below "doghair covered snapshits" level then who are you to complain about them anyway?

Pushing Tri-X a stop to 800 ASA. The dev time on the pack of D-76 says that 400 and 800 are the same time, 6:45. Massive Dev chart says the same. How can that be though? I imagine that while it can be developed at the same time, film exposed for 800 would end up a bit flat?

What times have others used to develop Tri-X 400 @ 800ASA with D-76 where they liked the results? I don't have a whole lot of film so I really don't want to experiment a whole lot.

I call this one "living dog hairs". Notice how the tree branches resemble numerous dog hairs plastered atop a skillfully produced negative. They are obscuring a photogenic and inspiring subject. Its a playful take on the age old, and deeply philosophical question: Do we care more about the dog hairs on the negative or the dog hairs within the negative? Can our predispositions stop us from truly appreciating what lays before us? A beautiful photo with a stunningly deep meaning. Thank you.

Got the Agfamatic 2008 and shot a roll with it. When I was shooting with it it was working fine and making that distinctive zip-zap sound. But when I got done with the roll and took the film out of the camera it stopped doing that. It seems like it works fine but there are no that zip-zap sound coming out of it so I can assume that something inside got broken or missaligned. Because when I took the last shot of the roll and tried to rewind it felt too stiff and at first I wasn't able to get it out cause it was stuck, but eventually I managed to release it.
I don't even know where to ask about this camera that practically no one uses today but what can I do about it? I want to use a 110 format camera for the trip but now I don't know do I even have a working one.
>>
>>4301626
Why go through so much hassle for a 110 camera?
Genuine question because I don't get the appeal
I like doing unnecessarily complicated things all the time when shooting but it's stuff that gets me cool results etc.
I want to start shooting large format one day and it's a pain in the ass but it gives amazing results
But what's the deal with 110?
>there's only lomo film for it
>impractical (a rollei 35 is smaller or the same size as a 110 camera, an Olympus Pen is half frame and almost the same size)
>image quality is shit
>ridiculously small negative
>110 cameras always have shit lenses except maybe for that crazy Pentax one
Why?
Not to shit on your parade, it's just that I truly don't get it

>>4301404
>Superia was really bad.

Absolutely smoothbrained zoomer take. Fuji had Kodak so utterly dominated by the end of film that you couldn't even compare them, and Superia in 100, 200 and 400 is all emblematic of that.
I've never shot a well kept roll of 800 or 1600 to know about those speeds, but it's a moot point these days anyway. The market told the story anyway; Kodak died and Fuji lived, and lived long enough that it now gets to fuck Kodak's reanimated corpse by slapping a markup on their product while deciding whether or not to bother re-opening the whoopass can.
Superia Xtra is miles sharper and with better colour rendition, better sensitivity, better dynamic range and finer grain than any kodak 400 stock.
You can also shoot it 15 years expired without it going to total shit

I’m not that guy but I went through a 110 phase. Sometimes you don’t need more of a reason “they’re neat and I want to do it”. I even went smaller with sub mini films which was always fun (think minix/minolta16 etc). Good times. There doesn’t always have to be a practical reason anon I mean that’s kind of an ironic question to ask in a film thread innit? Why are we shooting any film at all?

It's a little confusing, but there's 65mm film and 70mm film. I believe imax is shot on 65mm and then copied onto 70mm positive film and the extra space lets you put the sound info on the film. Maybe. All that really matters is that you can only get kodak vision3 films on 65mm format, so you need to adapt spools/film backs if you wanted to shoot it on 70mm cameras.

There's a few 70mm film stocks that you can get on ebay. Agfa aviphot is one, and sometimes you can get kodak spools like this plusx aerial.

Imagine 120 film, but with added sprockets on both sides to make it 70mm, and no backing paper.

This is one of my aerial cameras. She's a really baddy, and a lot of fun to use with an external viewfinder. The expired plusx is very grainy, but the images are coming out very sharp. I have a few more to go through then I'll post some.

It has a 15 or 16 blade aperture for some reason, and it uses a curtain shutter to expose 6x6 negatives. Very satisfying cocking and shutter release sound.

You don't like it?
That was an ancient roll, old packaging style, and intentionally shooting into the sun and giving enough exposure that I'd be able to recover the shadow detail, it was never going to be a masterpiece, but it shows that the shadows aren't ugly red, and the mostly red highlights haven't blocked up. That's my issue with Kodak consumer films, really just too warm and blow out reds immediately, as well as being a lot grainier and higher contrast/lower real film speed than Fuji.
My last experience shooting fresh(er) was a little while ago when I output my uploads at lower res. You get a lot nicer tone curve shooting fresh film at box speed, pic related

This film looks absolutely rooted, but because you choose to live in squalor it's difficult to discern the heat/radiation/mould related damage from the dust. If it's on a big spool maybe it will improve towards the centre?
I would give it more exposure and a shorter dev time with a more aggressive developer; you want to maximise on-film contrast to reduce the appearance of grain in a finished image.
In all though, congratulations on building a better mousetrap than your 4x5 setup and finding a more expensive way to produce even lower quality snaphits of your farm!
>as a comparison, here's some normal film in a normal 6x6 camera, when normal care and attention is used in taking and processing
>>
>>4301853
Listen to the incredible sounds it makes. With the back cover on it is a little quieter...

https://streamable.com/yei6l0

I was thinking of doing stand dev, but I was too impatient. Next time possibly combined with a lower iso.

The plusx was 145 usd for a 100 foot spool. 100ft is like 450 shots of 6x6 if you use a leader/follower, super cheap. Old bulk film is actually super cheap. You can get 5 inch rolls and shoot 4x5 for pennies per negative. Agfa aviphot is especially inexpensive.

How is the gx680? Too bulky for me when I could bring a 4x5 field cam out instead.. I tried looking and I don't think there's a 70mm film back for those cameras. :(

>>4301864

anyone ever used a Moskva-5 folding 6x9 camera circa 1959 before? I'm tempted to snag one off ebay with the 6x6 mask to get into MF
>>
>>4301889
Always wanted one of those fold out bellows type cameras. Mayne a kodak one with an ektar lens...

You may want to get one that has had new bellows installed, and/or a full CLA. I would imagine the chances being quite high that they're toast on a 60 year old camera.

If you want the crazy advice just get a 4x5 camera and use MF backs on it. That way you can seamlessly transition into god's chosen format when you eventually feel called to it.

They are good if you find one in good condition or CLA, the issue is the ergonomics.
They weren't sure if it was going to be a left or right hand camera, also be aware that the rangefinder is TINY. I only use if for 6x9 since I don't have the mask and after advancing the film a certain amount the advance knob will get a bit harder to move, I am assuming that its because it accounts for the 6x6 size and such.

If you have used soviet shit you will get used to the quirks of it pretty easily but otherwise it can be maddening.

I usually stick to one-two film stocks and don't do such diversity fag-parades. But yeah, it was a painful lesson and I will do a plan next time.
I hope photos will appear nice anyway, Pancro looks shittier than the other but I hope it will be not so hard to fix this in the darkroom/ in scan.

Thankfully b&w is fairly forgiving, so you should be able to get something out of it. If the negatives are hard to work with consider it a fun challenge!

And just remember it could have been worse. I've never done it, but I have heard of people adding their fixer first and developer second...

Original poster here, I was gifted with this camera and got a few rolls of 110 film cheap. I've shot just one of them and now have this kinda problem. I know it's not worth it to mess with problematic cameras but in my area (Russian small city) they're quite expensive for some reason while there is no film available. So I don't want to buy another camera for just a two rolls of film and at the same time I have rolls that are going to expire pretty soon so I'd like to shoot them faster.
From the only roll that I finished - this format is absolutely useless nowadays as it has garbage quality, no control over the settings and it's tricky to develop it. So no real use, and the only fun part here is to pull it out of the pocket and cath some sneaky moments that will end up as a grain mess anyway.

Sorry, I was carrying forward my awareness of the old 200 datasheets and actual film tests on the new product, it looks as though they've responded to that by re-writing the curves for cn-16 chems instead of c-41 and starting at 1.0 over d-min rather than 0.2.
I'll commit harajuku immediately for my mistake.
I still contend it's the same film though.
>>4302064
>by which metrics, exactly?
Not going bankrupt was a pretty big one, but also by making slide filme with a minilab process that would last longer than 5 minutes both on the shelf and after processing?
By making my particular favourite film, Reala?
And by making superia 200 and 400, which are just nicer, more colour accurate films than their kodak counterparts.
>>4302078
>the only film they make is for 16 years old girl
Yep, and they make fat stacks doing it.
Current Kodak is a spinoff of a spinoff of a picked carcass. I'm glad they exist and seem to be releasing new films, I just really hope Fuji actually decides to start producing roll film again because it's actually better to use.

I like the form factor on this for being similar to a 35mm however my concern is how fast is focusing? Would it be possible to take quick pics of something? Or is it, like most medium format, better suited for slow scenes that you need to frame up.

>>
>>4302180
Depends on what you're shooting and how you want your pictures to look....

in general, I prefer b&w - I'm developing a roll of Kentmere Pan 100 tonight, I recommend Kentmere if you want a cheap b&w stock that isn't shitty Fomapan or rebranded Fomapan. I recently developed a roll of Adox Scala 50 and the results are good - fine grain and high contrast but it quickly blows out the shadows if you're not careful but details can usually be recovered in post. for color I'd recommend Kodak Pro Image 100 or Fuji 400.
>>
>>4302180
Hp5 is nice for 400. Fuji acros is nice for 100. If you want to waste money you could try ferrania's new 50 speed film called orto. I have a couple rolls of 120 I have not developed yet...

finally got around to developing the test roll, and it basically shows that it works, but it's more or less crap, i tried to handhold my test shots lmao. also as it turns out the setup i use to "scan" 35mm doesn't work for 120 6x8 and it's surprisingly a big pain to reconfigure since i was relying on macro tubes. oof. so the film isn't flat, lighting is bad, i think the camera may not be square to the plane, and so on and so on lmao. oh well have test dog.

Very based dog poster. Basically me when I first started shooting my linhof handheld.

If you must shoot it handheld do everything you can to ensure both focus and no camera shake. F11-f22, 1/125 - 1/500 shutter speed, wider angle lens like a 50mm-125mm. Get an anatomical grip if they have one.

If you do all that it becomes somewhat easy to get sharp images handheld. This horse pic was taken handheld using my linhof with a 127mm lens and a 6x7 back.

Cute dog. :D

You can see typical soft lens hair rendering all over the rest. You just have a soft lens. That's normal. Film era lenses mostly weren't clinical and looked their best on less demanding subjects where they would easily render every detail you'd want to see (ie: pretty ladies).

Yep still soft
>>
>>4302358
Yeah it's soft. If you printed it with a grorious inkjet you wouldn't see much blur, it would just look creamy and smooth instead of hyper contrasty. That's what soft lenses do. You can see the details but the edges aren't super crisp. They "glow" when you zoom in and look smooth when you zoom out. The opposite "sharp" lens looks "clinical" and hyper-real, sharper than human vision.

I will not deny that a 4x5 macro lens is about as snobby, niche, and overkill for my use cases as you can get, but I love having it.

I just trust the more modern rodenstock lenses to perform exceptionally well in all ways, and it really does. My favorite part about it is not the sharpness. It has an image circle large enough to easily shoot 8x10, so you're free to basically use as much movement of your standards as you want. It's fun. :D
>>
>>4302380
It's not even enough to look at charts, you need to use the lenses AND look at the charts to get an intuitive sense of scale. The actual difference shown by mtf charts is pretty small unless you compare a vintage macro to a modern digital lens, and they don't scale across formats unless you enlarge them equally, which you won't.
>>
>>4302383
How DARE you make assumptions about my plans for what/how I will be printing? I'm buying a geared printing table that will give me over 8 feet of distance from easel to enlarger just to prove you wrong. Expect 40 inch prints in a few months. USING FIBER PAPER AND Rodenstock apo enlarger lenses. HA!

Also I haven't spent the time learning how to read mtf charts because I'm secretly not that big of a gearfag even though I am. I just like cool cameras and lenses. HA! If the camera is fun to use, and I like the look/functionality of the lens I am happy. It's that simple.
>>
>>4302388
Proper manufacturer mtf charts tell you what the lens looks like

They aren’t goodness lines and people have been buying low contrast and high sharpness falloff lenses on purpose since forever. They also objectively tell you if two lenses basically do the same thing more objectively than review gearfags
>>
>>4302390
In your estimation does my rodenstock macro lens mtf chart look pretty based, or is it cringe?
>>
>>4302392
It looks like it has 3d pop
>>
>>4302393
Cool. I haven't used it for anything other than macro shots, but I hear it is nice for everything. Maybe I'll go snapshit some sheep or something today.

Sounds like cope to me. I actually dislike adox cms20 and would never suggest for anyone to use it. It's too much of a pain in the ass... If you don't want to spend 10k dollars on ultimate quality you could just stick with the cms20 and a nice lens also...

The GFX100S is a 61mp FF, 26mp APS-C, and 18mp 4/3, can be used one handed without a tripod, has autofocus, IBIS, and burst shooting, an ISO range from 100 to 12800, and is a digital camera.

CMS 20 is actually ISO 10 and only competes with $10k for ultimately quality on a tripod with a large format camera for which lenses as sharp as modern digital stuff are either rare or as expensive anyways.

They really aren't the same thing, but I have a feeling CMS 20 isn't produced in large numbers for a reason. One's an excellent tool, for forensics or finding bigfoot, the other is a silly hobby and tmax has more character.
>>
>>4302420

Im sure you wont understand that tho...

In all honesty I don't give a shit. I'm just joking around if you couldn't tell. I even stated how much I dislike cms20 as a film stock...

If you want true ultimate quality you should be shooting a 20x24 camera and making contact prints... A little too bulky for my type of snapshitting.

Your "light leak" is you failing at dev. Not enough liquid in the tank to cover the whole reel, or you didn't push the reel all the way down to the bottom of the tank.
Easiest way to scan 120 with a camera is to get a neg carrier from a 6x6 enlarger and stitch together as many shots as you need to cover the whole frame.

One of the nice things about 70mm is that you can just cut the film and start over again with a new leader and only waste like 2 inches of film. Great for experimenting.

would anyone know what the black patch on the left side of the photo is? I'm guessing it's shutter drag or something to that effect but it bleeds past the side of the frame. it's on most photos but not all or at least not as prominent as shown here.

taken on a c. 1950s Mamiya Six that I had to remove the self timer from because it got stuck and I couldn't operate the camera at all. there might be some remnant machinery that I didn't completely remove slowing the shutter down or maybe it's a light leak?

I figured but I wasn’t sure since the Paterson tank says it takes 500ml and I put even a little more than that in there. Do development chemicals settle or something? Cause the tank would have been full as far as I can tell, but I’m newer to all this so it could 120% be user error. Just not sure which errors lol. Good thing it was just a test roll eh. I threw a 35mm into the gx680 as well for fun and used the same development method and got a similar defect, here’s how the leader turned out. It’s been years since I last did my own dev but never saw anything like this.
