Turns out these cameras really do take good pictures of green shit. Neat.
Too bad they take for fucking ever to save raws.
I got this cheap locally hoping for a throwaway camera that I wouldn't need to worry about being lost or stolen. Then I looked up the used price.
Any tips for getting the most out of this cinder block of a machine?
Also any lens recommendations as a step up from the Nikkor 35-70 f3.3 I currently have on it?

Really thought you were talking about Foveon sensors here.
Even better at taking good pictures of green things, and even longer to save raws. My DP2 Merrill, we're seriously talking about 13 seconds from the picture being taken before the photo is saved, with a 7 photo buffer, and you can't view the photos until the buffer is cleared (so we're talking about a 13 second minimum wait).
It's my favorite camera though.

I think it just depends on your processing methodology.

Those greens somehow look too blue and too yellow at the same time.

lol no, this is just how slow foveon cameras are.
Quattros are a bit better, but still annoyingly slow.
Hopefully the next foveon camera can eliminate this with modern chip tech, though japs being japs, and Sigma being extra jappy, we're probably going to see the camera absolutely shat on and called unusable because of wait times of a second or two.
