Alright so I was taking pictures with my camera like I normally do and then suddenly the viewfinder in my camera goes a bit darker. This is a DSLR so I don’t even know how this happens. When trying to take another picture the autofocus ring just makes a full turn in one direction and then a full turn in the other direction. This keeps happening when I press the shutter button. I then put the lens in manual focus and the picture is completely over exposed. I take pictures in 1/100 s and normally the exposure would be set correctly but now it seemed like the camera overexposed the image by two full stops. I also have the focus point selection set to Auto and it used to light up the squares that the auto focus would focus on but now none of the squares light up when I press the shutter button. When I manually select the focus point the square I select lights up, but the focus ring still only does one full turn. What could be the issue here and how do I fix it? It is a canon eos 50 and an old sigma 18-200 lens.Sorry for shit formatting as I am on mobile posting from where the incident happend. Thanks for any help. Also wtf happend to 4chan? How bad has the bot issue gotten?? I have to wait 900s to get the captcha?? Like wtf I have to wait 15 minutes to make a post what is this bullshit[EXIF data available. Did you try on a freshly charged battery?
>>4385589Finder going darker in DSLR sounds like what happens when you press DOF preview button, aperture closing to what camera would use for exposure. Might be bad contact between camera body and lens (remove lens and clean contacts in both) or some kind issue related to aperture. When you remove the lens from camera and look through it, does the aperture appear fully open? If camera meter expects aperture is wide open when it's actually stuck N stops closed you get N stop overexposure. If aperture looks fine, remove battery and let camera stay unpowered for a while. (That may sometimes clear issue like a latch-up caused by a spark or stray cosmic ray. Do not expect a miracle.)
>>4385636>Cosmic rayYa learn something new every day, wow.
>>4385636thanks for the help, it appears as if the aperture ha gone stuck. When I remove it from the body it is completely closed and wen I change the aperture through the settings it does not change at all. Am I just cooked or is there a fix to this?I charged the battery and removed it from the body but that did nothing.I am now looking into local camera repair shops while I wait for the Captcha.>be me>wait 900s for captcha>fail it>have to wait another 900s>press get Captcha again after 900s, the timer just resetsthis is the last time I am using 4chan
>>4385657Autofocus has limited rane of apertures where it works. If the aperture is physically closed below f5.6 or so, autofocus simply will not work. Suggest checking if the body works with some other autofocus lens. Canon crop kit lenses with IS are pretty good for cheap plastic (pre-IS era ones suck hard) and about $£€50 2nd hand.
