Why is moder infrastructure and architecture so fucking ugly, and what do we do about it? Whenever I go out of the house, nothing I see looks nice unless there's no development there? How do we fix this?
>>
This isn't even as bad as it could be. Balcony. Some room to grow something green. Almost pyramid like layers, columns.
Gotta do something better with the fucking blank box-like structures but at least whoever designed that is trying a little.
>>
>>389904808
Look up Brutalism and also the origins of modern architecture. Jews made both, and they're a way to make you feel powerless against the government and small.

Brutalism is the only based architecture, anything else is gross and bourgeoisie.

The answer is: because Jews do not understand anything that is not a hard angle, hence why they love their gay black cubes and their stacked triangle meme symbol. Brutalism was built directly out of need to put up tons of post-modern post-war housing, and directly apes prior war building construction. Average citizens would think it's because you need ugly, blocky nonsense of ten-inch thick concrete to stop against communist bombs, when the reality is it's a communist-driven and Bolshevist-divined style meant to create a sense of helplessness upon the viewer due to size & general imposition.

This is why you generally a person will have a visceral distaste for new construction happening in very old towns; modern construction is block-oriented to create the above sentiment, and because big cubes have larger volume than form-fitted curves. However, you can't plop a giant fucking box in an age-old town like Williamstown, MA because it doesn't match the rest of the town.

The worst part about Brutalism is that this nonsense was solved by the ancient Romans/Greeks who knew how to make good concrete superstructures. There isn't a part of ancient Roman, Grecian, Acadian, or Cretian construction that isn't as big as some of these ugly-ass LEGOs that also isn't beautiful. That's not even touching on brick & mortar, which stomps brutal structures into the ground, or anything made with proper steel.

tldr; jews are fucking gay and cancerous to everything they touch.

Sounds like bullshit to me. More like they are cheap and can be made sturdy enough to last a while. Rebuilding after WWII probably caused more of these things to be built than the war itself. I suppose in some sense a concrete building is going to be better for you in a firefight than a glass and steel beam one. Maybe some places that feared invasion thought this way, but I suspect they'd just build serious bunkers.

Is correct. It's being used as a weapon. These people think traditional architecture is not the result of millennia of work to refine and expand on the fundamental principles that dictate beauty and reflects our culture, but a representstion of European colonialism and is inherently racist. Then again, we already know how they feel about the physical proof of how much white societies tower over nearly every single foreign culture.

This isn't specifically related to Brutalism, however I find it interesting that the Soviets in the postwar era still built good housing for a while - picrel, the 'Stalinka'. It's like a crossover period between older prewar/prorevolutionary imperial houses and commieblocks. They had certain modest ornate elements but function was also important, and it blended both really well. They were extremely solidly built, the flats were large and had tall ceilings and parquet floors, and the buildings themselves looked good, they were not an eyesore, despite being large and imposing. They were grand, but in a way that commands respect. It reminds me a bit of certain planned utopian Roman and Nazi German architecture. These were mostly built in the 50s. Unfortunately after this came the great decline when in the 60s they started building the classic commieblocks, which imo are an affront to humanity. They ditched all form and went full function. Probably to save costs.

That places looks 100x better than the low quality slabs of concrete, tin and cheap brick that they use to build shit here. It has at least got some colour to it even if it it's a stale brown colour. Here we got the industrial white, black and gray that is used to build new apartments, suburbs and houses. It looks so soulless.
A lot of these new places built today here in Australia are so shit they start falling apart by either concrete cracking apart, tiles coming loose from the floor, flooding and even sinking all within 1-3 years.

I'm an energy advisor. I go into 5-10 homes a week doing jobs. The architecture is fucking garbage. All timber and drywall. I like post war bungalows or even 2 storeys with turrets. I don't even mind a turret or a 2 story bay window portrusion.

What fucking annoys me, as someone who has to model these homes in 3D, is how many stupid angles and offshoots homes have after 1990. You'll have an L shaped first floor with a small sun nook in the back. Fine. Then you get above it a weird bay window on the 2nd floor that isn't even centered above the first nook, where it's lined up but then sticks out a few feet, or the nook is further out than the bay window, and it just looks so oblong and assymetrical.

What happened to nice simple flat walls and modest bay windows? Why do we have to have every wall juxtaposed with every wall? It's annoying as shit having to draw and sketch and model these shitty homes.

i've seen studies of 'sustainable' 'green' buildings in the uk being vastly more energy inefficient compared to more traditional construction techniques. the penchant for new and untested designs and the over reliance on modern materials lead to leaky and shitty buildings that cost a ton to heat/cool and only have a lifespan of around 30 years (which isn't very sustainable lmao).
as for the seemingly nonsensical nature of the designs, the traditional architectural canon hasn't been taught for many decades now, so architects think they need come up with novel solutions to 'problems' the classical tradition solved thousands of years ago. and rarely being genius-tier these designers usually create something that ends up being an impractical, nonsensical mess.

What do you guys think about the idea that the need for decoration has passed?

That busying ourselves with ornament and decoration was from a time gone by, when we were less technologically advanced and had to find meaning in the trivial?

I don't like brutalism,
But as far as architecture and construction goes I rather have something simple, functional, easy to maintain.
You don't want to be trying to hunt down a guy who knows how to make some obscure part for your house when it needs replacing.
You want something that any old builder can fix.
Likewise, you don't want to be peeling back layers of decoration to fix the pipes or electrical wiring.

I view my life as being hindered or slowed down by anything that needs maintaining.
I just want it to work so I can focus on the grander design of my life itself.

>>
>>389927047
You don't need to break through layers of ornaments to fix piping, because ornaments are usually on the facade.
Anyone who can do some plaster or concrete casting can do those too. It's just very finicky to get the original design right.
That's why those classical building are usually fixed with professional restaurateurs.

I hear ya, and I agree. Infrastructure today and always, tends to be ugly since it has a functional application above all. So it tends to be cheap and efficient, and the aesthetics are of lesser concern.

Buildings are generally not infrastructure, so you chose a bad picture to demonstrate your point.

I like brutalism and that building looks amazing to me.

>>389927047
ornament has function though. moldings shed water away from the face of the building (how many new buildings do you see with disgusting water stains everywhere after only being up a year or two?). ornament around doorways and openings can be used to create a hierarchy that naturally informs people on what door goes where and how to get around inside the structure (how often in new buildings are the glass doors so hard to see that occupants stick up a4 sheets of paper giving people instructions on what door goes where or even how to navigate around the building at all).
ornament casts shadow that delineates space, creating a sense grounding and wholeness to enrich the experience of the viewer. the modern tradition tends to want to make the viewer feel uneasy with the use of flat planes.

Here's the architectural blackpill for you.

Modern Design and architecture, although capable of astounding artwork, is not functional. Because the function that it serves in modernity is that of a prison, it is designed to guide you, track you with cameras, have zero blind spots. it's not designed to make you feel comfortable, you should be afraid and paranoid, or alienated.

This guy gets it.
