I've been teaching high school for over 10 years and as this school year is wrapping up all I have to say is it holy shit, what is wrong with the current cohort of students. Was it the pandemic? These kids cannot socialize if their life depended on it, and have the attention span of goldfish. I'm supposed to be teaching high school freshmen, but have the emotional maturity of at best middle schoolers and worse fifth graders. If feels that if I don't assign anything that is not directly technology they simply cannot do it. Also it seems like cheating so rampant among these kids. I ask them to write a simply two paragraph response to something on canvas and I catch half of them using ChatGPT. I can only imagine how many of them half to rely of calculators for subjects such as math.Half the class seems so dozed out when I try and make my lessons as engaging as possible.
