Putin's speech:
>Targets, which we destroy in our next test launches are defined in our federal law -- according to threats to security.
>We see that we have a right to use our weapons against military installations of countries that allow use of their weapons against our military installations
>If aggression escalates, we will answer decisively and symmetrically

I actually love the Oreshnik arc.
These are the consequences of what you are doing you retarded fucking niggers.
This missile exists because you decided to walk away from the INF Treaty.
It was used because you wouldn't stop escalating.
You have no realistic defense against it and it's launch is harder to detect than an ICBM.
Now the longest warning you fucking get is 19 minutes for London.
Enjoy trashing years of plans, contingencies and logistic routes you thought you had.
Oh and there is a real possibility China, Iran and North Korea get to copy it too, if it wasn't made in cooperation with at least one of them already.
You dumb fucking niggers.

Just said "mirv" because that's what people have been calling it. A "spreadshot" rocket or something around those lines could be closer to describe it but i guess that doesn't fit the fear warmomgering from the west trying to find any excuse to send goyim to die in a conflict that doesn't even have anything to do with them

Why would it sonic boom this late in the flightpath?
IMO that's the rocket discarding its 1st sage and engaging its 2nd stage given how the rocket starts emitting less trail without slowing down.

Unrelated: I wonder if Russian strategic rocket force officers calculate when the first stage will drop to avoid it hitting a city or if they YOLO it...

I mostly agree but I just don’t see how a Ukraine that has lost half its territory and such a huge segment of the population is dead or permanently sought “refuge” in foreign countries could pose a big threat to Russia as a NATO member. After the war Ukraine will turn into the baltics 2.0. Massive emigration and population collapse.

Moя жeнa из Poccии, and I have been to Russia multiple times since the war broke out. I know that sanctions have not had a lasting impact. I was surprised to see how little it really affected you. But there’s no denying that it has had an impact in a lot of ways that you would all like to see lifted eventually. My main point here is that sanctions and recognition of Russia’s new territories may play a hand in negotiations. Doesn’t have to be allowing Ukraine to join NATO. Could just be agreeing not to completely conquer the whole country.

NATO membership comes with US stationing troops and weapons in the member state.

The entire problem is that the US pulled out of the ABMT. The presence of IRBM/MRBMS in Turkey was the direct cause of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The reason IRBMs are so feared is because they limit decision time dramatically. When they're on your border, your entire defense system has literally minutes to decide whether to retaliate with nuclear weapons.

Russia is trying to save the world from retarded American imperialists.

Yes. I can go right now. Russian consulates and embassies are still open in America. It’s really easy to get a visitation visa since my wife and now newborn son are Russian citizens. Have to go through erratic border crossing in Europe which is affordable but unreliable or fly through a neutral country like Turkey, which costs a lot. And I never had any problems in Russia. It was always Europe or the States who gave me trouble, but DHS has stopped detaining me thankfully.

>explain to me what I am seeing
Russia shoots missile up to space, it contains a MIRV bus that separates into multiple small warheads, seems to be 6x8 or something like that making it quite a few warheads. Those come down from space at speeds at something like mach 20 nearly vertically, that's why they are glowing due to friction, it looks really cool due to the cloud layer.

Now imagine those being nuclear tipped, and instead of them all targeting the same location they go for a seperate target. While each warhead small on the scale of nuclear payload, that's still more explosive power in each of those than an entire ww2 bombing raid. So you can either spread the destruction wide against smaller cities and industrial targets, or target multiple districts of a large city, or a combination of the two.

I do wonder if there is a degree of decoys to actual warheads in that mix. Patriots and similar system cannot intercept these, among burger mutt systems only sm-3 and thaad and even they are probability of kill against a single one of these, no system is realistically cable of intercept all of these. In fact, at a meager two missiles per incoming warhead giving a fighting chance to interception will exceed annual production of those missiles

>>489209796
Bear in mind that the apparent angle of descent depends on the location of the viewer - if the viewer is in the same vertical plane as the trajectory of the missile, for example, the warhead can appear to come down almost vertically. There are at least two different videos of that Oreshnik strike - it'll be long-remembered - which illustrate this effect. One was from a camera which was in line with the long axis of the footprint, and one was perpendicular to the same. Maybe I'll go and make some trajectory calculations and see what the likely parameters of the trajectory were - for example, the apogee altitude and the flight path angle at which the warheads descend. The math/physics isn't very complicated - it's 17th-century stuff, quite literally. Anyone interested in a bit of orbital mechanics? Sure, you're not - or, rather, the missile isn't - achieving a free orbit, but the same principles apply, and in fact the trajectory it does fly is a kind of elliptical orbit - the fact that the perigee is well below ground level makes no different; it's still an elliptical orbit, with all the same parameters as the more familiar kind of elliptical orbit that e.g. satellites follow. Regardless of all that, the Oreshnik strike was the coolest fucking thing I've seen all month.

If what agent Z says was true, that Putin actually is terrified, that should put the fear of god into every citizen of the west as it would mean that nukes could start raining. We had an incident like this in the 80s over a large scale military excersize in Germany where Soviet believed they were about to be invaded. Reagen did a 180 on his anti USSR stance because he realized how close to nuclear holocaust we came and started a path of reconciliation instead.

The trajectory in question is an elliptical orbit. It doesn't matter that you can only fly a segment of it, as I said, on account of meeting the ground - the same laws and mathematical formulas which describe the motion of a body on a free elliptical orbit describe the motion of our projectile. Most of the trajectory is exoatmospheric, and I think the apogee shall be fairly high; I need to jog my memory as to what calculations to make.

The issue with this is that Ukrainians don't have local structures to fall onto when the state isn't there anymore. The Talibans has various tribal connections they've made use of, here it'll be nothing and compliance with the Russian control is being rewarded so it's not like they'll have much of a local support.
