Whoa whoa whoa. Rude.
CHEAP drone tech.
I remind you, we had Switchblade squad-deployable loitering munitions in service well before all this brewed up. Okay. So lay off.

The problem here is that US MIC just can't seem to make something like it cheap and shitty. So production of it as a widespread munition it doesn't scale. Bringing in someone with "good enough" field reports helps solve the issue.

The SBU, together with the Prosecutor General's Office and Lithuanian law enforcement, detained a Russian militant who fled to the EU disguised as a refugee

As a result of interagency partnership cooperation between the Security Service, the National Police, the Prosecutor General's Office, and law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Lithuania, a Russian militant was detained on the territory of the European Union. This individual, being a citizen of Ukraine, switched to the enemy's side and fought against our state.

The detention took place at the border with Lithuania, where the suspect tried to escape as a refugee.

The investigation established that the detainee was a 33-year-old UAV operator who launched Russian strike drones at Kherson.

He is a native of the Sumy region, but after the temporary annexation of Crimea, he moved to the peninsula, obtained a Russian passport there, joined Putin's party "United Russia," and voluntarily signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Later, the suspect underwent training at a military range and took an oath of allegiance to the aggressor country.

In the ranks of the Russian armed forces, he was appointed an operator of unmanned systems and sent to fight on the Southern front of Ukraine.

Assessing the risks of participating in battles against the Defense Forces of Ukraine, the militant fled from the firing positions and then to the European Union.

On EU territory, the suspect planned to use his Ukrainian passport to obtain refugee status and "lay low."

Based on materials from the SBU counterintelligence and the National Police Criminal Investigation Department, Lithuanian colleagues exposed the militant at the Baltic state's border and handed him over to the Ukrainian side for justice.

>>521284798
Probably because he had a tendency to push ahead with providing military equipment while other governments were fretting over "red lines" and "escalation", which then set a precedent which everyone else followed when they realised that Putin wasn't actually going to destroy the world if the west provided [weapon of the month] to Ukraine. For example the dozen or so Challenger 2s he had shipped over were completely irrelevant drop in the bucket by themselves, but it showed that the Kremlin's sabre-rattling about supplying modern tanks was a completely empty threat and other countries started sending Leopard 2s in large enough quantities to actually make an impact on the fighting. IIRC he did something similar with Storm Shadow missiles as well.

Plus he was very quick to offer a lot of support at the very start of the war, I imagine there might be a bit of "Ukraine would have surrendered in three days if it weren't for that dastardly Boris convincing Zelensky to stay" thinking going on.

Oh, I personally enjoyed Fallout 4, but it's obviously compromised in many ways. The point is about that more than a decade passed since their time. That's an insane amount of time, people leave companies, bullshit managers are hired, the company basically becomes a shell of the former self, while people expect the same things it could do before.

Tradingeconomics' summary of oil is interesting. Q3 only had a surplus of 0.5M bbl/d after factoring improved demand. I've read in other places that demand is surging mainly because of Chinese stockpiling who want six months of oil usage domiciled assuming imports fall to zero. So the Chinese are buying now while oil is cheap and oil would be in the $50-60 range if it weren't for this boost in support.

IEA meanwhile is bullish, Russian sanctions irresepective.

Not an evil at all.
We thought US protecting us was enough so we didn't invest enough in defense.
This is a necessary correction to turn that course, also nobody can trust the US anymore so that's another reason to do it.
On a different note: I think it's necessary to have young people in military or substitute civil services to instill a sense of belonging and unity. This society is drifting apart and being in the same situation like others - regardless of background - does exactly that.

To be fair even the cheap drones are significantly more expensive than most people think, good quality jamming-resistant electronics push the price up a lot. Still cheap by the standards of modern military equipment, but you're looking at something in the four figures range per drone if you want something that isn't shit (or worse, actively dangerous to your own side).

it depends on the composition of your society. In culturally homogenous, high quality ones it works great as a force multiplier for the military. In multi-culti heterogenous constructs like puccia it turns into a prison fast with different ethnics forming effective gangs rivaling with each other. Old timers saw this in the vatnik union "service". Even today in the EDF you get culturally foreign elements like die hard vatniks that are just straight up liability and should never be accepted in the first place

One of the servicemen of the 108th Guards Airborne Assault Regiment (military unit 42091) anonymously sent a video confirming the improper treatment of subordinates by commanders in the regiment's 1st battalion. According to him, the practice of burying unwanted soldiers has existed in the unit for a long time. This is how they punish those who have health problems or do not participate in mandatory monetary collections within the unit.

In the video, a soldier with the call sign “Leo”, who was buried by order of the company commander (call sign “Sura”) because he started complaining about poor health. At the same time, the serviceman was not sent to the hospital.

Made this simplified diagram of regular refineries main production flows, so you folk can get an idea of what gets bombed, how critical it is and what pidores lose when the units get bombed.
If anyone has any doubt feel free to ask and Ill see if I can answer, Ive been working at an oil refinery for 20 years now.

Take on account there is a lot of small details that change depending on the refinery, for example platforming is the main process making gasoline but its not the only one, a refinery may lack a platforming unit and instead have magnaforming or octanizing units which yield gasoline too.

Happy TRD.

>When some part randomly explodes, how problematic is it to replace it?.
Depends entirely on the unit, what breaks/explodes and how many redudances it has.
For example almost every single pump has a redundant one close to it so if the one running breaks or has to be stopped for maintenance you just start the other one.
Compressors may or may not have redundant equipment, platforming units for example usually have 1 main hydrogen compressor, if that one breaks platforming goes offline, unifiner and dehydrosulfuration usually have redundant compressors, if one breaks you start the reserve
Main equipment like reactors, destillation towers, lpg splitters etc dont have redundancies, if they explode the unit is offline, usually for many months.
Pipes is a whole different thing, some pipes have so many redundancies that breaking one just means a small fire and 20 minutes of work and others have zero and if they break it means an industrial fire that can take up to 3 days to extinguish and the unit offline for months.

>Also which one is the most expensive and hard to fix part, the distillation tower?
Depend on how they break exactly, for example an hydrogen compressor stops because the electric motor just broke down then its a couple of days, if the axle seized it may take around 2 weeks to 2 months depending on spares, if the airfols seized... we are looking at several months of work, maybe a year even.
Difficulty per se, speaking on how hard the work is and how good the guy doing the job has to be? airfoil compressors, you need very skilled folk to fix that.
Time consuming? Any tower, not because its hard, the job itself is simple, bring a new tower and set it up, but you have to order a new tower, it has to be delivered, conected, etc its not dificult but it takes months.

IMO the juicest part to strike is destillation towers, you take those down the rest has to stop, they are also fuckhuge so they make easy targets.

I could but the problem is, it depends on what explodes, sanctions, internal production etc for example the FCC cracking unit got hit (this is a very fragile and expensive unit and I would tag it with $$$$ but then what got hit is just the main pipe that feeds the unit, thats cheap to replace.

A a rule of thumb:
Any tower is going to be hard to replace, they can make it themselves if they have steelmills running tho.
Any precise machinery is going to be REALLY hard to replace, precise machinery is made almost entirely on the west, russia has no capabilities to make it themselves and chinese spares.... I mean we are talking about precission stuff, maybe a 10 micrometers mistake can make the machine break down.
Pumps and pipes are probably the easiest thing to replace, they can mechanize it themselves as they dont require too much precission.

Ukraine will soon deploy the “Drone Wall” air defense system to counter Shahed drones and guided bombs, Business Insider reports. Developed by French firm Atreyd, it uses swarms of AI-guided FPV drones to create a flying minefield. Once a threat is detected by radar, drones launch and detonate near targets to neutralize them, all controlled by a single operator.

What do you make of the potential pincer movement of hitting energy plants and refineries together? I know refineries consume enormous amounts of power.
Do you think that some components in a refinery become more valuable targets if power supply is intermittent or there is a blackout in the region? Are any bits of a refinery more sensitive than others during a power outage?

Polish FM Sikorski says Ukraine is preparing for a three-year war, and believes Putin won’t be able to sustain it. Western partners are planning support over that timeframe, potentially using frozen Russian assets.

Sikorski also noted Ukraine now produces nearly half of its own drones and cruise missiles, and said Putin has already failed: “He expected a three-day walkover. It’s been over a decade.”

Sulphur is a byproduct of oil processing, crude oil has a shitload of sulphur, especially heavy oil (south american and russian oils are very heavy and acidic) main destillation unit separates stuff which gets sent to process at the others shown in the diagram, in those is where sulphur is separated from the products as a mixture of acidic gases, said acidic gas is sent to amine treatment where the gas is separated into sweet gas which is then reprocessed and H2S, H2S is then sent to a Claus Process unit where it gets separated into proper sulphur.
In short, all units produce acidic gas which is sent to Amine treatment and then Claus treatment and then you got sulphur.

I didnt put it in the diagram for two reasons, first is it would make the diagram a clusterfuck, all units produce sulphur so it meant an extra arrow for each square, and second in my refinery sulphur is not even a byproduct, is a problem, we produce so damn much we dont even know what to do with it, you can sell it for pennies and even then nobody has enough production to take it all, its not that its useless, its used for cosmetics, explosives and fertilizers its just we produce SO damn much there isnt enough market for it, we have an entire football field 2 meters tall filled of the stuff...

>I ask because Russia recently banned exports of sulphur and this was due to sustained refinery damage which produces S as a byproduct of refining crude oil.
Didnt know that, if they had to ban the export of one of the most abundant and hard to sell byproducts refineries produce then the situation has to be really grim.

I think its a move to make average pidores feel the war at home since most of them have been very comfortable during this entire shitshow, I dont think refineries will be deprived of electricity to run, if there isnt enough power for everyone theyll cut it to general population, not the refineries, you pair people without electricity, fuel scarcity and subzero temperatures... its going to be harsh for many folk there, especially on the coldest parts, gas prices are going to skyrocket.
About components become harder due power outages? Maybe stuff they can make themselves since factories producing those will suffer cuts on their production lines, anything they get from imports wont be affected much since its being made somewhere else.

>>521296093
