Can't talk about the Frame because I'm not a VR guy.
Machine, its all about the price. Slam dunk at $450-500. Might be $650 for the 2TB model and that's still a steal.
Target audience isn't the enthusiast PC enjoyer, it's the FIFA nigger who used to play seXbox.
That said, it's almost 6x6x6 inches. The dimensions slightly deviate. Triggers the jewdar slightly. From a company in SoCal? No shit.

The Controller is the most interesting of the lot.
Those 4 grip buttons it has are much needed for some emulation usecases and some games, it's shit to map keyboard shortcuts to. No more weird L3 button combinations in Retroarch.
The touchpads, sticks and buttons come straight from the Deck so those ought to be good, and the sticks are TWR which is the hottest meme in thumbstick land.

they're selling the base model deck for 400 and 700 for the premium, since they already said x4 power than I'd assume at least x2 the price so 800 for the lower spec box and 1400 for the better model
standalone vr will probably be around 1k given the full index kit was 1200 and the controller will most likely be a solid 200
all of this will be sold out in days

It's not so much that, it's the fact that other OS's are wickedly inconvenient now to the regular Joe. Windows is rapidly getting worse and people want to jump ship. MacOS? Fuck no. Linux? Don't got the time or patience. People game on computers and use steam mostly. If steam releases an OS like this, best case scenario is windows back tracks and stops being shit, worse case scenario is now the majority of people who play games will stick with steam and windows will collapse. Microsoft hired Indians, Indians ruined it. This situation is now the result.

If the controller is $70 or less it's a day 1 purchase. If the price it at like $200 to compete with dual sense edge / Xbox elite controller, I'll pass

The GabeCube is actually pretty good but I don't need it at all. Already have a better PC.

The headset I'm probably getting. It's where VR should've been years ago.

I hate valve and steam(ing pile of shit,) btw but I can't deny this is by far the best vr tech I've seen.
>>
Will probably get the steam frame since I'm into VR. Having an inside out tracking headset that can work in total darkness seems pretty sweet since I'm one of those weirdos that likes to sleep in VR and light bleed from the outside world really kills the eepy vibes.

>>
>>521376198
What made the Machines fail in 2015 was that they completely relied on third-party manufacturers to produce the hardware, and that Proton and other methods of playing Windows games on Linux just weren't good enough for commercial application.
Nobody made the machines because the software wasn't there, and the software wasn't there because ironically the only people who got into Linux and stayed there were people who don't play a lot of games.
But obviously that changed tremendously since 2015 as people grew disgusted with Windows and saw the need to develop an alternative, which took its sweet time but is now ripe for the harvest.
>>
>steam machine
considering this is going for entry level pc/console players they need to absolutely get the price right or its DOA. steam deck worked for its price because its more novel. this is a "not a console" linux pc, you need to convince your average console retard to switch over to it, and barrier to entry has already been established with it not being windows. its a lot more convincing if priced at ~400 funny money
they will need to sell at a loss (if they already aren't) and recoup with steam game sales. they basically own the pc games market, so
>>
>>521374058
>there are still no good games

I can upgrade my budget PC for $250 to do everything Steam Machine is doing.

Also I would buy a Steam Machine at %20 off from a skin trader who wanted to cash out so fuck day 1 buying.

But there are still no good games coming out. Even GTA 6 is in question after Starfield, DragonAge, NiggersfromJapan, ect. I don't need a high end system to run indie games or games from 10 years ago.

I want Steam OS to work and replace Windows though.
>>
>>521376479
It's gonna work like the Deck.
Start in console mode, desktop mode is an option.
Most people will just turn it on and play FIFA.

The problem is videos are always out of focus and the girl has to stay the exact same distance away, but never does you it's constantly, didn't now how to describe it, I guess being crosseyed or drunk even with good vr headsets.

>>521376973
That's doable on all vr headsets.
Even a decade ago there were mods to play retro games in VR like the legend of Zelda ocarina of time, mods for GTA v and Skyrim vr VR, and you can use virtual desktop to play whatever you wanted on the headset without it being vr.
>>
>>521376727
Nobody wanted Steam when it first came out either, and now its a monolith of the industry that makes companies 10x the size of Valve seethe because they can't topple it.
Gaben's greatest strength is that he doesn't chase trends. He doesn't give a single fuck about whether or not the idea is popular or not, only about where or not he thinks it will work. If its good enough, it will become popular over time.
>>
>>521377334
I didn't do any mods to mine really, depends if it's an Intel or AMD chip too. Intel processors are bs the last 4-5 years. Overheating like crazy and with cuck cores.
>>
>>521376422
I wonder if this will eventually result in a Valve-supported SteamOS becoming available for PC. A lot of people still avoid Linux because they think it is dark magic, a version of Linux that you KNOW up front will play your videogames and which is vouched for by a company you already trust would probably be a good foot in the door for getting casual PC users to consider switching to it to get away from Windows.

Impressive. Looks like GabeN want's to murder Xbox and Microsoft for good.
If they make the Frame's price lower than the Quest they'll dominate the market and normalize VR headsets everywhere, just like he's normalizing Linux. I'm assuming that's what they're going for since they're using monochrome passthrough for now.

Best part is all of them are just small PCs so you can do whatever you want with it, that means emulation on Deck, Machine and Frame.

The Deck is a handheld device (essentially an extra thing to have) that launched during lockdown to a saturated market waiting for the Switch 2, and didn't make Valve lose money because they priced it well and sold plenty of them.
This new consolised product is entering a market where there's really just 1 option now that the other option (Xbox) completely kicked the bucket.

>yes everybody wanted steam
You must be 18+ to post here.
People were used to buying games and installing them from disc, and then using no-CD cracks to spare the disc and their drives for convenience.
Steam came in with digital rights management, with having to download games which could take a while, and with the need to be online to verify your game license.
It pissed people off, but the service was sufficiently convenient and out of the way enough for many to swallow it.

It's essentially a non-windows PC that can still run windows games and applications thanks to its Proton translation layer.
This will OBLITERATE Microsoft Windows.
Most people buy PC's so they can play games and use the internet.
You can do all that with the Steam Machine without needing a Microsoft account, or buying a version of Windows, or ever getting "upgraded" to an even shitter version of Windows against your will.
It's a PC without the Windows shit.
Microsoft shares are going to zero.
>>

VR porn videos don't feel immersive because they are always just 360 videos displayed in VR not true stereoscopic videos. Now with games like VRChat people do things (against TOS) that absolutely do feel immersive because they are true 3d objects and there are other games like Heat that capitalize on this as well.

It depends, the top end Ryzen Al Max+ 395 is probably even more expensive than the separate chips Valve will use.
I've been using a laptop with a 7840 for a few years, it's more or less an RX 580, which isn't very impressive now.

I think Valve missed the timing to release an ultra-cheap Steam Deck home console, without the controller, battery and screen it could have been 200 EUR or less, and it would have sold out instantly at a time when you had to pay out the ass for something like an RX 6400
>>
>>521384314
Ja, the 395 max is at crazy 1500 for a whole PC and is then as powerful as a 6700 GPU for now less 200, they're planning an 8core 388max also with the 8060s, that could get intersting If the price is realistic
>>
>>521374058
Steam Frame might be OK but they are dropping full body tracking so this competes directly with the Quest 3. Is it any better than the Quest? Probably not enough to justify the price.

Steam Machine is really a console that is going to be well over $1K. At that price why not just buy/build a PC that can do other things besides game? With SM you still need to own a regular PC which is the fatal flaw all consoles have except the PS5 is only $499 and includes a $75 controller.

Steam Controller is probably really good unless they price it over $100.
