You can still get simpler appliances (except for washing machines) but you need to make your research. The stove I got I as simple as the old one. It does not have the shitty pop out buttons or electronics. Only the timer is electronic and not mechanical but I know how I can get rid of this thing and my stove will just not have a timer not a big deal. If you don't do your research or get a woman with you will get flashy shitty product that will probably connect to internet or will have touch screen for no reason at all. 3) Engineers are not what they used to be and they don't need to be. Their employer will tell them - this must last 3 years or if you are lucky 5 years, the engineer will design it to last last 3 years and 3 months. The softwares got increasingly good so you will not find anything "overbuild" like in the past because there was not a piece of software that can simulate almost everything and the engineer decided not to gamble and add 10-15% more overbuild part.

I miss a good oscillating desk fan with a hardy fan blade. The newer pedestal fans barely last a few year. A wireless remote is cool but most of the time a fan was set it and forget it any ways. I also miss self propelled gas lawn mowers. CA banned small gas motor landscaping machines in 2023. You can still own and use then but you can't buy them new inside the state. Electric is fine for trimmers and blowers but it's dogshit for self propelled mowers.
