He probably should be on at least one to do a preview tag but whatever. New Japan has had absentee champions since at least Omega. Although naturally this is the most extreme version of that.
>>
The benefits of this partnership:
>Every interesting westerner signs with AEW immediately because New Japan is cheap.
>Tony Khan influences the IWGP title booking because he lent us our new ace which the domestic audience has rejected. And this applies to any such talent lent.
>They make a maybe a milly or two thanks to the gates they do with AEW throughout the year. (Dynasty drew poorly and looked bad optically, but im sure it did a lot of money for them.)

In the end it is all Bushiroad's fault after all.
>>
>>19156912
Capitalism is all about short-term goals instead of potential long-term winfalls.

Sure, they could try to make NJPW more popular which might bring in more money long-term but right now they can just milk Tony Khan for millions with 0 effort and act as the AEW farm league. From a business point of view, it's pure profit for them.

Given how irrelevant New Japan is to Bushiroad's total revenue I could see them being interested in prettying up the books to sell it. Although, these cuts are in line with their greater corporate wide strategy which has helped right their profits. Outside of maybe in the future mining Stardom's IP for games I dont really feel like New Japan fits with the rest of their assets.

>[NJPW] Hirooki Goto cuts down new champion Konosuke Takeshita’s “shallowness” — “Is that really how someone seeking true strength acts?”

>Hirooki Goto (46), who will challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s November 2 Gifu show, has fired back hard at current champion KONOSUKE TAKESHITA (30). After Takeshita completely dismissed Goto’s so-called “Goto Revolution,” Goto responded with the pride of a man who’s spent his career walking the opposite path. He spoke about the importance of the “conservative side” within Japanese pro wrestling, while also revealing his plans for after recapturing the belt.

>Goto appeared before Takeshita after his title win at the October 13 Ryogoku show and declared his challenge. “Takeshita said, ‘Anyone who’s got a problem with me, come out.’ Once I heard that, there was no way I could just stay quiet—I felt like he was calling me out personally,” he recalled.

>Goto had finally captured the company’s top title at the Osaka show in February, achieving his long-awaited dream, and led the promotion under the banner of the “Goto Revolution” until losing the belt at the June Nagoya show. But Takeshita dismissed him completely: “The most conservative man of all is Hirooki Goto. He’s just pretending to be a revolutionary.”

>The two men’s careers could hardly be more different—Takeshita has been active on the global stage since his twenties as the first wrestler to hold contracts in three major promotions, while Goto has spent his entire career in NJPW. “That I’ve been knocked down again and again and still come back—that’s what my kind of revolution is,” Goto countered. “He calls me conservative, but if everyone were like him, running overseas, what would happen to Japanese pro wrestling? In the end, he’s doing it for himself, right? If that’s what he calls ‘innovative,’ then his whole way of thinking is different from mine. I take pride in being part of New Japan, and I want to protect it.”
>>
>>19159384
>Goto added, “I acknowledge his talent, effort, and ability,” before bluntly calling Takeshita’s words “shallow.”

>“He says things like, ‘I’ve always pursued strength,’ or ‘The IWGP is the ultimate pinnacle,’ but if that’s true, then why didn’t he dedicate himself to wrestling or judo, or even take New Japan’s entrance test? Looking at how his career started, can you really call that the behavior of someone seeking true strength? I even invited him to join CHAOS, and he turned it down. Maybe, sure, it was the shortest route for him—but to me, everything he says now just sounds like justification after the fact, convenient reasoning, hindsight.”
>He declared, “When he faces me, he’ll understand the weight of New Japan—and of the IWGP.”

>During his previous reign as champion, Goto longed to defend against a former ally turned rival who had moved to AEW, but that match never came to be. Now he’s set his sights there again: “Okada (Kazuchika), Shibata (Katsuyori)—I’ve said they’re opponents I have to face. I want to fight them with the IWGP on the line. It’s time to take down AEW.”

>“Pro wrestling isn’t like baseball or soccer. New Japan is trying to operate on a world stage, so it’s more important to go global *as someone from New Japan*. A certain great man once said… ‘Japan’s best—means the world’s best!’”

>The man who reached the summit after years of struggle now seeks once again to reclaim proof that he’s the strongest.

Easy to say for a guy who was born so rich he grew up with an elevator in his house in the fanciest part of Tokyo.

I can't remember who used to cut all the promos about Goto being a spoiled rich kid. Shibata maybe? But I remember the promos. Might've been Naito.

The concept of "(Takeshita) running overseas" framed like he rejected his home country and past when he never cut ties with DDT or anything related to it.
(iirc him leaving to go abroad at the time was framed as excursion but i could be wrong about this)
Also like he said

it's NJPW who never replied back to him when he was a kid, so I don't think Takeshita's love for NJPW is superficial and only meant to appeal fans
Goto should direct his words about "loyalty" to NJPW to other people, not him

No, they'd be down very slightly but to only be down very slightly when you're in a star-making period without any big stars out front that are young when you just lost Naito, the biggest draw in Japanese wrestling?

That's a great year by any measurement except those used by schizo seethers
>>

>>
>>19163419
>but to only be down very slightly when you're in a star-making period
This would imply they're actually trying to make anyone a star
>>
>>19163547
The booking might be shit but that's what this is -- a down period where they need to make stars.

My point is to only be down a couple of thousand on the entire year (if you ignore Wrestle Dynasty for whatever retarded reason you can make it up) after losing Naito, Okada, Will Ospreay, Jay White, etc, is pretty good.
>>
>>19162787
It's a storyline...

Anyway you dont set up a match with Goto unless you are deciding to lean into Takeshita being an invader heel. I guess Gedo and Co. Could just be retarded, but we will see. Given the booking thus far who knows.

>[NJPW] Hiroshi Tanahashi vows to capture the belt, fueled by encouragement from Shinsuke Nakamura — “I’ve received it loud and clear.”

>Hiroshi Tanahashi (48), set to challenge IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji (32) at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s November 2 Gifu show, has taken the words of his eternal rival Shinsuke Nakamura (45, WWE) as inspiration in his quest for the title. Ahead of this fateful showdown with the man he once scouted into pro wrestling, Nakamura shouted Tanahashi’s trademark “Aishitemasu!” (“I love you!”) during WWE’s Japan show on October 17 at Ryogoku Kokugikan — a gesture that carried deep meaning for Tanahashi.

>With his retirement match coming up on January 4 at the Tokyo Dome, Tanahashi will enter his hometown Gifu event challenging for the GLOBAL title. He first met Tsuji when the latter was a college student, recalling, “I ran into him and said, ‘You’ve got a great build — have you ever thought about becoming a pro wrestler?’” Now facing his former young boy in a title match, he smiled:
>“What an incredible story this is. I called out to him because I wanted him to succeed, but I never imagined it would lead to this. It’s not a crane’s return of favor — it’s Tsuji’s return of favor. But I’m still a man who aims to be number one until the very end. I’m going all out to win. The ‘white belt’ and I have always been connected.”
>>
>>19166883
>A loss would likely make this his final title match as an active wrestler. Tsuji, now the leader of the new generation, seems ready to hand down the torch — but Tanahashi isn’t going quietly. “Sure, there’s that classic early-Heisei-style ending, where the senior fades out gracefully. But I’ve always hated that idea — it makes the industry shrink. I’ve always wanted to surpass my seniors. Now that I’m in their position, though, I can’t help but think, ‘Yeah, I don’t want to lose either,’” he said with a grin. If he wins, it could set up a title match as his retirement bout. “That would be insanely exciting, wouldn’t it? I really am once in a century,” he said, eyes shining.

>He also found renewed motivation from an unexpected source. In WWE’s Japan show, Nakamura — his lifelong rival — grabbed the mic in the ring and proclaimed, “Japan… Aishitemasu!” borrowing Tanahashi’s signature phrase. Speaking to media later, Nakamura added cryptically, “I’m doing everything I can, but you never know what’s coming — an inch ahead is a happening,” quoting their mentor Antonio Inoki.

>Tanahashi reflected on the layered message: “That’s Inoki-ism. I take it as a message of encouragement — we lived through the same era, and I think he was telling me, ‘Keep going until the very end.’ I’ve received it loud and clear. The moment I heard it, my body fat started burning — I’ve started the Nakamura Diet,” he laughed.
>He continued, “Nakamura’s been training in mixed-discipline gyms, keeping himself moving — and you can see the results now. The fact that he used my phrase on a global stage made me feel like he was taking me with him to the world. It really made me happy.”

>To respond to the message of his rival — and his friend — Tanahashi must now prove it in the ring. His love may yet make the goddess of victory turn his way.

>[Hiroshi Tanahashi Column #4] Serving as attendant for both Riki Choshu and Keiji Muto at the same time — what a challenge that was!

>I failed the New Japan Pro Wrestling entrance test twice, but finally passed on my third try in November 1997, when I was a junior in college. That year, five of us passed, including Wataru Inoue and Katsuyori Shibata. I thought, “I did it, finally passed!” and was ready to drop out of college right then.

>But Riki Choshu, who was one of the examiners, told me, “I’ll wait a year for you—graduate first before you come.” That threw me off completely. I had planned to quit school after passing, but I still had 58 credits left to earn in my senior year.

>So from there, I attended every class while also training hard so I wouldn’t fall behind the others who had already joined. It was a year of intense study and intense workouts. I don’t think I could do that year over again if you asked me to. Still, Choshu’s advice came from kindness—this is a tough world where injuries can happen at any time, so he wanted me to have a backup plan by finishing school. I’m still grateful for that.

>Then, the day after I graduated college—March 22, 1999—I got a notice saying “Please come to the NJPW office in Roppongi.” I went there… only to find the office closed. Completely lost, I ended up going straight to the dojo and moving into the dorm. The next day, I finally met President Seiji Sakaguchi at the office. KENSO (Kenzo Suzuki) was there too, and both of them were so huge I remember thinking, “I’ve really entered a serious place.”
>>
>>19174462
>In the dorm, I shared a room with Togi Makabe and Katsuyori Shibata.
>I had bodybuilding posters, Makabe had gravure idol posters, and Shibata had Bruce Lee on his wall—it really showed our personalities. Every time I put up a new bodybuilding magazine poster, I’d cover more of Makabe’s wall, and he’d yell, “You’re making an already manly room even manlier—cut it out!”

>Later, I was thrilled to be assigned as an attendant to Keiji Muto, whom I’d admired since my trainee days. And then I inherited duties from Masakazu Fukuda to also serve as attendant to Riki Choshu—meaning I had to take care of both of them at once. That was *rough*.
>Once, at a show, I forgot Choshu’s bath towel and had to give him Muto’s instead. Then Muto didn’t have his, so Manabu Nakanishi lent him one—what chaos that was.

>Both men were huge stars, of course. Once, they both invited me out to dinner on the same day. I had already accepted Muto’s invitation, so I told Choshu about it, and he said, “Hey, Tana—if you turn me down again, there won’t be a next time.” I was absolutely terrified in that moment… but it was all part of my unforgettable early days in New Japan.

I forgot when EDION Arena is opening back up (January), but there's several really nice buildings they could run in Osaka to replace either one. None of them are those shitty venues they went to during the G1, though.

In literature they say a technique for making the audience sympathize with a character is showing other people liking them to make them relatable. It is not working. Kek. That being said i do think Umino fits better in the tag division.

How come Aono Miku became World Champion a week after doing waterfall training but it took Goto ten years?
>>
>>19179118
Rika Tatsumi did it too in 2018 and lost. Maybe they went to the wrong waterfall

ok well Goto's playing E. Honda. i don't see Miku's sturdy ass in a blockbuster Street Fighter movie.

IN THE AFTERGLOW
>>
I am actually fairly curious where New Japan is going with the juniors for WK. Douki having both titles makes things curious. I would assume he will hold at least one belt going into the dome (Probably the singles). I guess you can do the Sweet Boys vs. Ishimori/X vs. Wato and Yoh. Then you could have Depsy and Douki run it back. Maybe they could find some way to jam Connors in the tag match. Would be a shame if he leaves unceremoniously to the dub. He was always my favorite of the LA Dojo.

In like 1 hour 40 minutes. Winners of the main event advance to the finals tomorrow vs HoT, but KUSHIDA/Yoshioka need to win and TMDK to lose to force a 3-way tie. No Tanahashi, Tsuji, Goto or Takeshita a day before Gifu

>Main event: Super Jr. Tag League B Block Ichiban Sweet Boys (Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles) (4-0) vs BC War Dogs (Taiji Ishimori & Robbie X)(3-1)
>6th Match: Super Jr. Tag League B Block El Desperado & KUUKAI (1-3) vs KUSHIDA & Yuki Yoshioka (3-1)
>5th Match: Super Jr. Tag League B Block-Tiger Mask & YAMATO (0-4) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (Dick Togo & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (1-3)
>4th Match: United Empire (Callum Newman, Jakob Austin Young & Templario) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (DOUKI, SHO & Yujiro Takahashi)
>3rd Match: Master Wato, YOH & Katsuya Murashima vs Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi & Gedo
>3rd Match: Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano, Ryusuke Taguchi & Dragon Dia vs OSKAR, Yuto-Ice, Clark Connors & Daiki Nagai
>1st Match: Shoma Kato & Masatora Yasuda vs Tatsuya Matsumoto & Zane Jay

I dont really have a favorite here cuz one I already saw and the other has Robbie X involved
>>
Might be unpopular but really liking Eagles, probably even more than Fujita
>>
>>19181331
Nah he's top class talent and works hard
>>
>>19181331
Eagles is great at working a live crowd, I'm not surprised the Japanese took to him like a duck to water. I don't think his look is dimes on TV/streaming, but at the end of the day NJPW desperately need gate numbers and Eagles actually gives that in a way that is hard to quantify if you haven't seen him live.
I personally prefer Fujita, but Eagles is underrated player.
>>
.....fucking why
>>
robbie x is good idk why the fucking seething faggot itt still hates him (he's not handsome but who tf cares)
>>
>>19181379
IDK i get why fujita is super popular, but in TMDK is my least favorite, his style doesn't click with me for reasons. He's young and maybe with time I'll change my mind (i liked Fujita during BOSJ final vs Yoh but i was more leaning on Hoh)

id argue all of them have a bit of in-ring aggressiveness that is somewhat charismatic, except JAY. theyre all in this weird tweener place when they should really be working more like straight forward, dickhead, stiff heels.
