has anime negatively impacted your life? be honest
>>
It made me less relatable, as it's something I don't really talk about given the perceived connotations. On the plus side, it successfully prevents tfwnogf for me. Some of my best memories are from vns like stein's;gate, katawa shoujo and anime like oregairu. Most anime is pretty average though, and a borderline waste of time so I just watch it while eating mostly. This season seems really good so far though. Overall I give anime/2d an 8/10 not bad.

p.s. the doujins are ace 10/10
>>
Honestly it's kept me busy when I was paralyzed for a few years. But now then I am in school and working full time I really have the time to watch anime plus I'm bored of it it's extremely generic and dough now I've played multiple vns and I've watched hundreds of animes.

I don't think it has. I know video games did though. I am sure if my parents actually took the time to raise me instead of doing it on autopilot I wouldn't be the way I am. If I ever have children I am never introducing them to video games or the like until they are 18 . It's bullshit that a simple device can fuck up so many people in such a grandscale.

Anime and manga (and related mediums) are probably some of the most brutal forms of escapism that don't involve drugs. It's addictive and sends you to fantasy worlds. Even "Slice of life" anime doesn't actually depict the real world but a perfect, fantasy version of it. Anime is youthful, colorful, magical and will fry your head and give you depression once you look at the real world and see how disgusting it is compared to anime. In the real world there is no cute girl who is obsessed with you, you have no powers, you are useless and everything is ugly. People don't have perfect bodies and the world is ugly and it rarely benefits to be a good person. Getting addicted to anime will do you more harm then some drugs and you will never be the same person again. It's not that anime itself is bad, but it's a medium that is so addictive and escapist to the core. Western TV usually focuses on real life issues or issues similar to real life, and fantasy/sci-fi series are uncommon and even when you see them they usually still connect you to our own lives. Anime just doesn't have that.

Anime taught me girls get upset when you act in any way sexual towards them

>Now 29 year old virgin
I think stuff like not having a dad was more damaging, anime was just confusing me a bit
>>
>>48647713
Almost all anime has a connection to real life in its messaging subtext. Like all narrative art, it's about overcoming challenges, growing as a person and finding your place in the world. Superficially it is often purely escapist though.
>>

That's what I learned from reading feminist blogs as a teen. I don't think I was mature enough to understand their perspectives at the time so I just interpreted it as befriending a girl you're interested in to get with her later = manipulative and creepy. Being upfront = objectifying and creepy. Not interacting with women = the way to go. Years later as an adult, I've never had a female friend but I definitely read those things incorrectly and/or made bad assumptions as a result.
>>
I managed to take away the dross from the silver as far as anime is concerned; And since no good anime is being made anymore, I just occasionally watch the modest collection I've amassed and it doesn't consume much of my time, or make me a waifuist, or any other harm like that.
>>
>>48647789

I wasn't talking about all anime, but a lot of anime does have little to no connection to real world. Even when it does, most of the time it's a very broad and thin connection.

Just an example: https://myanimelist.net/anime/32901/Eromanga-sensei

This was one of the most popular series of summer 2017. It's quite literally about a 12 year old girl who draws porn on the internet and her brother who wants to fuck her and is very vocal about it in each episode.
>>
>>48647713
Yeah man, slice of life anime will fuck almost anyone up. Too unrealistic.
>>
>>48647854
I know what you mean with some of the seasonal garbage. A lot of the most popular anime has meaningful and rewarding subtext though, from Evangelion to Stein;Gate to Shirobako. Even Comedy romances like Oregairu and Toradora are really good. I think it's a matter of avoiding the drivel, which admittedly gets harder the more you watch, but there's still a ton of decent to great stuff out there.
>>
>>48647931

As I said I'm not attacking anime itself, I watched everything you mentioned and I think anime has some of the best shit out there (universally) and it's an amazing medium. It's just that a lot of it is very addictive imo.
>>
>>48647849
>And since no good anime is being made anymore
Except for all the good anime that come out regularly every three months. Maybe you missed those.

>>48647854
Eromanga-sensei is a meme. Nobody watched it, everyone pretends they did so they can join in on the memery. The protagonist does not say he wants to fuck her every episode.
>>
>>48647440
Maybe? I don't really know
Like I'm still able to go to work and get money and function and shit, but I'm still lonely as fuck but don't really try to fix it
>>
>>48647971

I may have exaggerated, but I refuse to watch it ever again. As far as I recall he does numerous things that indicate he want to fuck her and he does confess to her and some other things I think.
>>
>>48648010
Pretty sure that this never happened.
>>
>>48647971
Fair enough, but I bet you won't rec me anything.

I'm an Oshii, Abe, and Kon fan. Rec me something.
>>
I was lucky and didnt really watch any anime until i was 18 or 19. I just watched a few shitty moe series and I could tell that it was bad for my mental health and i stopped. I dont really get how adults can sit through it. Its such a ridiculous exaggerated form of escapism. At least in vidya you take part in it, and some of them require you to think. But with anime you just sit there and wish you were in the show, and thats it. Its fuckin depressing and I cant ignore the knowledge that its pathetic and counterproductive to consume. That reality is always at the back of my mind bothering me when i watch it, but in vidya it can be safely ignored from sensory overload and having to dedicate all my thoughts to the game
Katawa Shoujo fucked me up more than any anime ever did though
>>
>>48648010
He never confessed to her, though the author's a huge siscon so he will eventually.
>>
>>48648055
Ah, so you're just pretentious and won't accept any anime that won't make you look good in front of others.
>>
>>48648070
>>48648042

I checked it. According to Izumi's MAL page he did confess to her (In the manga, at least).

https://myanimelist.net/character/100995/Masamune_Izumi

Click on the spoiler.

>>48648055
watch legend of the galactic heroes if you haven't already. Best anime imo
>>
>>48648086
I have no recollection of something like that happening in the anime. But really the point is that he doesn't go around talking about how he wants to fuck Sagiri.

after getting into a couple anime shows i can definitely attest to the escapism piece. the characters and world just seem so much more cheerful and uplifting than real life.
ESPECIALLY when they involve really cute boys.
>>
>>48648076

Hey man, I just wanted rec. You want me to give you some of my weeb cred or something? I thoroughly enjoyed both seasons of K-on! Is that enough? Just give me a rec, if its an anime you think is pretentious I might like it. rec me something
>>
>>48648086
huh don't remember that from the show but I might have just forgot. Though they changed the ending of Oreimo for tv so they may have done the same for ES
>>
>>48648116
There's good anime every season, all you need to do is look at the season charts and watch things.
>>
>>48648131
But theres also a whole lot of garbage, more than not maybe, you know this. The last seasonal anime I tried to watch was Erased, and I got burned bad.

REC ME SOMETHING
>>
No because I don't feed off of it. I just watch what's good.
4chan and the internet in general had more of an impact on me. Still haven't figured out if it's for better or for worse.
>>
>>48648169
How do you know that "no good anime is being made anymore" when you don't watch anything? Erased was almost three years ago. Someone reccing you something is useless; Erased was the third highest rated show of Winter 2016 and is ranked #81 on the site. A lot of people would recommend that. But you didn't like it.

Not really. By the time I became really interested in anime I had already been a social outcast for years.

The only problem with anime is that it's probably the only form of media which has the potential to get an emotional reaction out of me.
>>
>>48648270
I noted yours friend, sorry for not replying, and I haven't seen it yet. I'm just getting on this guys
>>48648245
case because he won't recommend me anything.

And fuck your gay rankings, Erased absolutely fucking sucked, and that was the nail in the coffin. Do you even have the balls to bring up a show you like?

and I lied, I watched a show a short while back about some kids playing arcade cabinets that I can't remember the name of, that I found amusing, but I never followed through with it. You've judged my taste, now let me judge yours. I bet i'll be more amiable
>>
>>48648482
>You've judged my taste, now let me judge yours.
This is exactly why I don't hand out recs or talk about what I watch, because it just becomes a pissing content where people try to AMOG me with their normalfag "taste."
>>
>>48648534

Your insecure about the anime you like. Truly pathetic. Later
>>
>>48648565
You're the one who's so insecure he namedrops Oshii, Abe and Kon just so he'll look good in front of others.
