I was feeling that way and then I had a breakthrough. I didn't understand lyrics and didn't like them in music. I was not interested in them at all which hurt my songwriting. Then I heard a vocalist focus on note, inflection, timbre, dynamic choices in reference to the lyrics and it suddenly clicked and made it fun. Choose lyrics and note choices specifically to compliment one another. That makes lyrics actually fun because I can put them together with the music rather than just thinking of them as completely unimportant compared to the vocal talent.
