one thing these guys got wrong about music is that they have no respect for the song. everything has to be a multilayered experience where you NEED to be on board with the group at every level of production. Not only do you need to know about Morrissey, but you need to know when they produced their albums and where on the album they show up. It also helps to know additional writing and recording credits for signature reasons.
I don't like the smiths , don't like the cure too. I think they are a bit overrated , in a sense that their music is very depressing , their sound is melow and sad. Why are kids all of the sudden interested in the smiths? Did one of their songs appeared in a super hero movie or something? Or a depressed teenagers tv show? They all love the smiths but if you ask them who johnny marr is they look clueless

Some of Moz's solo work is pretty good but it's sorely lacking without Johnny Marr (not that I think his solo work was any better but he was great when working with the Talking Heads and Pet Shop Boys).I think the Smiths vs the Cure is a lot like Oasis vs Blur. They were listened to by the same people and you can't talk about one without the other but they're completely different sounds.
