Sometimes when I'm writing a story, the characters start to take on a life of their own and they start making demands on what they want and where they want the story to go. This always frightens me, it's like sharing my head with another person who won't shut up.

Most of the time I'll just ignore them and write the story as I want it to be and often times they'll quiet down when they realize I'm in control.

When a particularly stubborn character won't shut up, I'll take out a blank sheet of paper and start writing an ending chapter for them where they're violently murdered. Sometimes they won't stop screaming even then, so I have to finish the chapter, and then they're dead and then I have to scrap the original story because the character is dead and I can't finish it.
