From my experience it's literally because I've been too depressed to try hard and I have zero self belief already so it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. When I see people I look up to, I notice that I haven't put in even 1/8 of the work they've put in. your idol has failed more times than something or whatever

Also to be honest you just got dealt a shit card, probably.
