I FUCKING LOVE MEGASTRUCTURES!!! MEGASTRUCTURES ARE THE COOLEST FUCKING THING EVER!!!!!
>>
>>85693028
I don't know what a megastructure is and I don't want to ask google what it is, I want YOU to tell me what a megastructure is and WHY they are cool. Okay, go!
>>
>>85693048
ok, im not that good at explaining stuff but i'll try. megastructures are, well, really fucking huge structures. something like, a structure the size of an entire city. an entire city in one single building. isnt that fucking awesome? but thats just scratching the surface, compared to other stuff thats considered SMALL. have you ever heard of a dyson sphere? its probably the most iconic form of megastructure. its basically a massive ball of solar panels that surrounds a star to harvest energy from it. and inside that sphere, there would be whole civilisations living inside. its just so cool anon. i cant even really explain why i like them so much. just the brutalist architecture that can extend for miles and miles... being able to explore for years without even seeing a single human being... its such a cool concept. media i like that are set in megastructures include

any manga by tsutomu nihei. specifically BLAME! the megastructure in that manga is fucking HUGE. it has an entire room thats the size of fucking jupiter, and thats only a small fraction of the total size of the structure.

lorns lure, climbing simulator that has a lot of really cool set pieces. fun game too. creator recently announced a horror flight sim set in the same universe and megastructure called the hollowing, which im really excited for.

girls last tour. anime and manga set in a post apocalyptic world. basically just them exploring the megacity and having fun but it delves into some deep themes as they learn more about the world. stuff that is normal to us but is more of a mystery to them because of the total lack of human interaction and lost knowledge from our time.

theres also radiosol which i havent played yet but it looks really promising.

so are mega structures real things in the current world or only just in sci fi? i think i understood everything else for the most part and they do seem cool. would an aircraft carrier be a megastructure? they always say they are like small cities on the sea.

>muh mega giga struckshures
Read Ringworld, anon.
>>
>>85693136
they're mostly just a sci fi thing. we do have some real life megastructures but they're not on the same level as the fictional ones. like, the great wall of china is considered to be a megastructure im pretty sure.
>aircraft carrier
not really, those are way too small to be considered a megastructure. even the ones we do have, like the great wall of china and the hadron collider are still small compared to what people mean when they say megastructure. its usually on a planetary scale at least, or like a stacked city the size of a country or something like that. i think the smallest thing that i personally would consider to be a megastructure would be those megabuildings from cyberpunk 2077

i plan to at some point

By that logic, all connected fibre optic wiring underneath the entirety of the eastern United States is a megastructure.
>>
>>85693197
makes sense. what about the burj khalifa?
>>
>>85693028
I'm a game dev, what kind of megastructure game do you want?
>>
>>85693205
I think that counts as a megastructure. It's pretty futuristic too
>>
>>85693141
the megastructure was cool, but i thought the thing with all the intelligent races fucking each other was a weird fanservicey thing, like it didn't need to be in the story at all, but i think the coolest part was the girl who was genetically luckmaxxed. That was a very interesting concept.
>>
>>85693339
Yeah that specifically was always so cool to me. Your entire family tree only being able to produce you by winning lottery after lottery, to a point that luck is an inherited genetic trait such that no harm can ever come to you, but always to others around you a result of said luck is genuinely such a cool concept. Like being so lucky its actually a biohazard.

the twist with the end of her character, don't want to spoil it to the anon's who haven't read the books, was also really interesting, like an extremely lucky outcome is so far from the realm of your expectations that it just kind of ruins your life as you understood it forever.
>>
>>85693205
i guess but i've always thought of it as something that is lived in. or, was once lived in.
>>85693208
think thats just a skyscraper tbdesu.
>>85693242
honestly i will play anything that has you exploring s megastructure. i think something kinda like outer wilds would be cool. where you're travelling around a dead sector of the megastructure figuring out the mystery a civilisation long gone left behind. whether that be just walking around, climbing, driving a vehicle, flying a spaceship and navigating through the megastructure.

>>85693141
Halo did it better.
>>

I want a cozy game where you explore gigantic ancient ruins that look like ICO or shadow of the colossus in different biomes and environments and you can randomly meet another player on your journey and randomly lose each other while walking along the gigantic ruins. Some are foggy, some are raining, some are deserts, some are overgrown or mossy.

You have a chance to add these random players or you can just be strangers that spent time for a short while before never seeing each other again.

Something that looks like the manga BLAME!
>>85693028
OP. You too would love that manga. Pic rel

>it's Ringworld but waaaaaaay smaller and kinda chucked in space at random rather than encircling a star and the only point of the fucking thing is to explode and kill space zombies

Nah
