>>10293927>>10294344i have come before a conundrum while indexing beariesi have found that although everything im indexing is in fact a beary their naming convention is jumbled, i.e. calling them bury or putting their characteristic before beary or both, see myrest pic attachedbut i find it to be artistically limiting and going against artistic integrity to change themalso some never got names D^;
>>10294925make a convention. burys are grils. bearies are bears. then add an aka tag, list. EX:beary ebil (AKA beary rude, ebil beary, bury ebil, beary evil) ect.It doesn't have to be that hard, fig.
>>10294925beary or bury?
>>10295036fugg youre right ;_;contemplated using hydrus so tagging is easier but want it to be one large file anyfig can accessthank you butno rude pls :<(>>10295058ruled by court bury due to humanoid appearance rather than beary
>>10295145Yeah, the rudie is right. Official scientists do it the same way, including regional names and common names on a see-also line.If you want a public access single file, have you considered a Google Drive Sheet? Drop the images in the first column, your official classification in the second column, a list of secondary names (artist given, etc) in the one after that, and so on. You could add additional columns for any additional information, like flagging them as having a non-natural trait (career, hat, whatever), or on their natural traits (color columns for hair and head, weight class, etc). You could even keep the main sheet as a locked-to-the-public directory and let people clone it if they want to run searches or sort them however (or just make a second unlocked clone sheet for that so we can help each other search things :^) )also please practice good data hygenie. keep things atomic and if you have to put lists in a single cell (like for common names), separate them with a consistent delimiter (semi-colon is good for this!!)t. too much data work at work
>>10295145>butno rude pls :<(h*ckin nicers are such cry babbys.
>>10295220
i named a lot of them and i name them wrong on whims all the timethey are all bury nice to me :^)
>>10293582this is nice boardYour fortune: Excellent Luck
>>10295036those gummies are gonna give her some extremely violent and stinky shits
>>10295159a google drive sheet sounds beary nice but i am somewhat computer-illiterate, so i have no idea how any of it works and how to make the columns actually useable and searchable lole D^: probably gonna bingewatch a couple of tutorialols so i know what the fugg i'm doingthe subcategories you've provided are amazing and i'm definitely gonna use them :^)i'm also currently keeping note of when they were posted so there's a chronological order of sorts, don't know whether this is too much unnecessary information doughmay i also inquire as to what keeping things atomic means?for now i'm gonna mess around in sheets a bit more and collect more bearies for the night :-D
>>10295426good work anon. here's a rare beary
>>10293582
>>10295435thank you very much anon :^) i have returned from the le depths of archive to bring forth this one of a kind beary from 2015, please be nice to them!sadly cannot find the origin of some bearies :^(>>10295593holy f*g beary leaf and (bury) sun are going to overload the vehiclel with photosynthesis!!
>>10295426Okay, my job is to help EU government dumdums learn how data should be stored, so I can give a few tips. >how to make the columns actually useable and searchableSo, spreadsheets do this all by themselves, but it's important that YOU THE DATA MAN make the searching meaningful. You posted a construction worker beary. You might just put "construction" as the career for it in the career column, and that's fine. But, then, if later you see a beary driving a crane and you put "crane driver" in, it'll look like there's still only 1 construction beary. Since the overall number of bearies is probably pretty low, it's a good idea to use loose terms. Make any constructionish beary "construction worker" and any beary of any shade of red all go into "red" and searchers will find what they need easily, even if you're less specific that way.>don't know whether this is too much unnecessary information doughThat's the computer's problem and google servers can handle more info than you have. Put it in, and it's easy for users to hide the column temporarily if they don't want to see it.>keeping things atomic means?So, it's a big grid of cells, right? Intuitively, being atomic means you should put exactly one fact into each cell. The smallest amount of information possible in each little unit.A bad example would be to have a COLOR column and the cell say>hair black, skin red, eyes greenA good example would be to have three columns, one for each color fact, like in this mock-up.
>>10295682FUG I made the example but forgot to use it.So WHY to be atomic is seen in Beary Scary's Hair Color. If you had one big Color column and were listing the colors in order, in addition to not being searchable, it'd be confusing any time a part had two colors. If you have it atomic, when you see "BLACK ; WHITE", you immediately know both black and white are hair colors.Also, I put that there for an important lesson. Being atomic is good, but don't let it bog you down too much. The most atomic way to do it would actually be to have HAIR COLOR 1 and HAIR COLOR 2, but then you end up with most hair color 2s being blank, and confusion about which color gets to be 1 or 2 if they're even mixes, and lots of confusing middle ground, and besides, people looking probably don't know what order to give the hair colors they're searching for, either! Sometimes it's totally fine to keep to slightly less atomic things. There's a middle ground between "most atomic" and "horrible mess" that's the best answer, and you have to trust you're gut :^)

>>10295682>>10295683>So, spreadsheets do this all by themselves, but it's important that YOU THE DATA MAN make the searching meaningful.this is an eye opener to me, the only time i've had to use sheets it was like it was working against everything i tried to do>Make any constructionish beary "construction worker" and any beary of any shade of red all go into "red" and searchers will find what they need easily, even if you're less specific that way.in hindsight this is exactly what the boorus do and what makes them so convenient to use :^)>If you have it atomic, when you see "BLACK ; WHITE", you immediately know both black and white are hair colors.exactly like what you'd get with a heterochromatic bearyit's all starting to make sense now :-Dthank you for going out of youre way to help and explain this so clearly for me anon :^Dpicrelish is what i quickly taped together before my departure to bed, please let me know if anything needs changing and how to share it without getting #REKT
>>10295780I'm happy to help and it looks like it's going great. When you're ready to share it, save a new copy of it. Then, google will have options to share it, and you should be able to set it to be viewable by anons (or editable by anons if you're feeling spicy)

>>10297399Yeah, it's a good idea to drop columns that virtually always come in the same. If there's not a huge amount of fat or thin bearies in the dataset, weight isn't useful after all.
