It'll be like the other times:
>"Oooh that doesn't look good"
>nothing happens
>"Looks like it's going to crash!"
>it doesn't
>"Um I think it's running out of fuel, I would know because I'm a chemist."
>it lands perfectly
>>
>>16477021
how do you recover from that, over and over again?
A crash may occur, its just part of the way of things, is that what he's waiting for? Will that make him feel better?

Many doomsday cults have predicted the end of the world and when the time of the end came and went without anything happening, instead of dispersing, they'd come up with some excuse why the prediction was not correct at that particular point in time but still was going to happen. His followers have EDS and are motivated to believe the downfall of Elon Musk will happen anytime now. They'll gleefully follow anyone who is willing to confirm their bias. Problem is that the doom doesn't come so they have to make up excuses.
Most doomsday cults eventually do die off after it becomes obvious to even the most loyal of true believers that the leader doesn't have the answer to when the end will arrive. Same will happen with Phil. His endless excuses for why his predictions of doom don't come true will wear thin. If he's smart, he's banking the money he's getting from this because he probably can't reinvent himself again like he did in the past going from atheist to anti-feminist to anti-Musk.

Insightful post.

>Most doomsday cults eventually do die off after it becomes obvious to even the most loyal of true believers that the leader doesn't have the answer to when the end will arrive.
Some of them stabilize though, if they can find the right combination of cope that grants them an indefinite stay on facing the reality of their failed predictions. For instance, the Seven Day Adventist cult grew out of the Millerite movement from the 1830s. Jesus was meant to come back in 1844, but didn't, but the Seventh Day Adventists (and a few others) adapted with a series of copes and are still going relatively strong today.

In the context of EDS, I think this cope and stabalization process might be possible. A possible form of cope may be:
>"Elon would have failed by now, but Cheeto Hitler stole the election and is artificially propping Elon up."
>>

The Adventist doomsday cope:
>The Seventh-day Adventist Church is the largest of several Adventist groups which arose from the Millerite movement of the 1840s in upstate New York,[17] a phase of the Second Great Awakening.[18] William Miller predicted on the basis of Daniel 8:14–16[19] and the "day-year principle" that Jesus Christ would return to Earth between the spring of 1843 and the spring of 1844. In the summer of 1844, Millerites came to believe that Jesus would return on October 22, 1844, understood to be the biblical Day of Atonement for that year. Miller's failed prediction became known as the "Great Disappointment".[17][18]

>Hiram Edson and other Millerites came to believe that Miller's calculations were correct, but that his interpretation of Daniel 8:14 was flawed as he assumed Christ would come to cleanse the world. These Adventists came to the conviction that Daniel 8:14 foretold Christ's entrance into the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary rather than his Second Coming.[18] Over the next few decades this understanding of a sanctuary in heaven developed into the doctrine of the investigative judgment, an eschatological process that commenced in 1844, in which every person would be judged to verify their eligibility for salvation and God's justice will be confirmed before the universe. This group of Adventists continued to believe that Christ's second coming would continue to be imminent, however they resisted setting further dates for the event, citing Revelation 10:6, "that there should be time no longer."

yeah, the similarity to a cult is a fair point. The Watchtower is still going, so perhaps this guy can survive a little while yet.
>>
>>16477701
The Watchtower Society had such a failure back in the 1970s and did lose some members....but there they are, still knocking on your door.

Thunder00t is like the science bro soidaddy vs the Elon dickriders. People tune in for the drama of a crash / failure or to him into a lolcow on a success. After the election this upcoming stream is going to have ridiculously huge viewer numbers.

its kayfabe. I want to watch him pretend to be devastated and get hit with a chair

I haven't watched a thunderf00t video in at least a decade. Why are there screenshots of him with pigtails or painted nails? Are those shitposts, or did he actually troon out?
>>
>>16478708
Wait, is he actually, unironically obsessed with Musk now? What the fuck is this?
>>
>>16478708
AFAIK, he still identifies as a male but he fits the profile for someone who has a sudden revelation about "who I've always been". At first the anti-feminism part didn't seem to fit but back in those days the amount of attention he focused on Anita Sarkeesian had a school boy crush air to it, which would fit the pattern seen before trooning out. But speaking of transitions, I was surprised to see that Sarkeesian has bimbo'd out. Guess her old grift needed a shot in the arm too.

Hyperloop was the gateway drug to EDS. Phil was casting about for something new to do as the atheist and anti-feminist spaces were too crowded for someone with as little charisma as him to make money. He started debunking really bad Kickstarter campaigns and other IFLS! tier projects like Solar Fucking Roadways and Hyperloop. Dave Jones from EEVBlog did a much better job of squashing those so Phil moved on the EDS in general. Dave Jones drives a Tesla, has owned several other EVs, and loves SpaceX so it was safe turf for Phil that he knew wouldn't be invaded by EEVBlog.
At this point he probably has convinced himself that most of what he says is true but if the money stops flowing and he see the rest of the world moving on, he probably will quietly drop the whole thing. Doubt he has the creative energy at his age to reinvent himself yet again and he's tanked his science career. He needs to extract as much money out of EDS while he can.
>>16477698
Sounds like a likely scenario though I doubt he is able to pivot anywhere nearly as well as those religious groups did. My guess is by the end of Trump's term, he will have run out of energy and his followers will have run out of interest in him.

>>16478654
Yes they changed dates

Interesting, I wasn't aware of this context. Makes sense.

sounds all too likely

>he amount of attention he focused on Anita Sarkeesian had a school boy crush air to it, which would fit the pattern seen before trooning out.
That's interesting. There was a poster on /pol/ who obsessed over a female soccer player for months before rejecting her entirely and making the switch to posting pretty boy models and obsessing about how he himself didn't look that good. Seemed that being gay was the next step, or a sex change.
>>
>>16478943
That doesn't bode well for the /tv/ autist obsessed with Sarah Gadon.
>>
>>16478981
perhaps its a more stable, chronic, condition. For his sake, if no one elses, let us hope so.
