Another Gud weekend

>Kai Havertz is the first player to play 90 minutes and complete 0 passes in a game in the last 7 PL seasons.
>>
>90 minutes on the clock
>Jurrien Timber sits down on the pitch and Mikel Simeone demands the game be stopped
>>
mad how blatant rigging can go on. i am sure there is a 'order' to do it in order to make games 'exciting'. arsenal winning would be bad for the pl brand because city need their 5th, so you keep playing until city score and ta-da they do and suddenly you can go 'wow what a good game haha', ignoring the terrible officiating.

That thread doesn't make sense because Arsenal

1. Played away
2. Played the better team in all metrics
3. Were down to 10 men

Did you just waft into /sp/ from 2023 and think that you make /mug/ spin-offs for all games? You make it when the team wasn't expected to lose/draw and do so.

It's wild how Arsenal drew with 10 men yet people are pretending like Arsenal are good and were expected to win and City are some minnow team. I don't understand this. Arsenal are shit so why are you laughing at them drawing with City? Like laughing at Ipswich drawing with City. Weird.

Again, so? You mentioned choking. I'm only covering what you mentioned. If you got to six finals in a row and didn't win any of them, you're objectively choking. I'm sorry you don't agree, perhaps you should either watch PL a bit more (after all, you're Dutch so you must be watching Eredivise, why would you be watching a foreign league?) and see that doing that is a bit different, especially when they did not face City in all of those finals (in fact, faced Arsenal in one of them).

If you asked me at 11am today 'premiership analyst, is there a conspiracy against Arsenal?' I would tell you don't be ridiculous that's one of the worst things I've ever heard it's the highest level of sport the most competitive league in the world Arsenal are a loved and heavily invested club and are narrowly behind one of the greatest ever clubs sides in Man City.

If you asked me at 11pm today 'premiership analyst, is there a conspiracy against Arsenal?' I would tell you that the evidence is near irrefutable. I don't know why, maybe the refs just don't like them, the rationale isn't easy. Their is a clear conflict of interest with City's owners UAE being one of the most lucrative employers and financers of referees. But they are handicapping Arsenal to the point where it is tough to watch.

Players in every match in the country kick the ball away. I've never seen anyone else take a red for it. This has already cost Arsenal 4 points and probably their place in the title race (if there was one).

There is too much open to interpretation in football, the rules are too vague. Cricket has very well defined laws and so it's possible to get a perfect performance from umps.
I don't think those football rules will be rewritten, because it suits those in power to blame refs and keep top clubs on top.

Every year my enthusiasm for the season disappears quicker than the last. Every year I say "yeah I'd take a draw at City/Liverpool if you offered it to me" and then end up depressed with the draw. Feel like I don't get positive feelings out of this sport. I stopped watching F1 for similar reasons. I never want to be the kind of fan who roots for bad things to happen to the opposition. Feels like the kind of thing you can't take back. God, England is such a hole, spiritually speaking. The EPL is their most potent means of exporting British National Misery since the Lee Enfield Rifle. Maybe I'll try to watch Serie A or the Bundesliga for a bit and see if my issue is purely with PGMOL or if it's like this everywhere and I should just start scaling down my fandom generally. Pic unrelated. Got a laugh out of me.

Trossard probably thought the referee would give him the benefit of the doubt since Doku did the same thing right in front of the ref and got away with it. Silly of him obviously but hey.
No but seriously, Michael Oliver was obviously on a power trip there. And I don't just mean with Trossard's red card. He was being silly when Arsenal scored their first goal and the ball was like 10 yards away from where the foul was. And the way he lets some fouls go (for both teams) just seemed inconsistent as well.
>>
>>144618303

If the match janny actually did their job Habertz would've been carded for purposely injuring Rodri at the kick off, Calafiori's goal would've been ruled out because because Walker was summoned over to the ref, and Saliba's goal would've been ruled out for impeding the goal keeper.

Arsenal should take the draw and move on. Its a great result for a club that's never won a European trophy or the league in the past 10 years :)
>>
>>144617868

>>144618349
I honestly believe that the only time to get any decent discussion about Arsenal in /epl/ is in the middle of the night so I, much like the referee, am giving the benefit of the doubt to this anon.

>>144618453
See, that's the thing. Nothing about it is consistent. It's not about Arsenal getting screwed over rightly or wrongly, it's about how infuriatingly vague everything can be when it comes to refereeing. In my stream the commentators said that VAR deemed it to be a coming together or something like that but obviously it wasn't just that. It definitely could/should have been a yellow for Havertz. But the referee just waves it away. But what are the chances that in the other 9 matches that a referee would just wave that away? I'm gonna say it's next to 0. It's annoying for every single team imo.
>>
>>144618611
doku actually sped up the restart because he was getting the ball to where the free kick needed to be taken from faster
>>
>>144618665

Which all brings me straight back to point 1. Could have had a great game if the referee didn't make it about himself.
Also I went and searched for a clip and found it on Reddit. The foul happens right on the halfway line. Doku kicks the ball away a few metres behind the line to Arsenal's half. The referee just gestures to the Arsenal side and doesn't actually point to a spot. Gundogan is the one that actually points and he also makes a yapping gesture with his hand afterwards when Arsenal complained lol.
>>

Just gonna have to agree to disagree on that one anon. I don't think there has been any football game in history that has been officiated 100% to the letter of the law (and there probably never will be for the foreseeable future) but I absolutely don't think that's what makes the game interesting. Games are entertaining when both teams go for it. When there are a lot of back and forth action. That's why even 0-0 games can be fun imo. Ref controversy more often than not just puts a damper on everything. Not just that game but future games as well because it'll just be filled with nitpicking and pointing and blaming and stuff.

VAR stepping back has made it worse. In the beginning VAR actually changed decisions. Most of them where good and there was few that was shockingly bad. Now VAR has taken a step back and is very rarely changing anything which means that the on field referee is handling everything. Just like how it was before VAR (and we now see a reason why we called for VAR to begin with).
>>
>>144625274
Sounds good. How do you get that? Only reason I like commentary usually is because I'm not paying 100% attention to the game and need someone who knows how to commentate with rhythm so I know when to look at the screen. I was close to stop watching football. That together with all the tactical fouls barely ever being yellow carded, as soon as you were out of position for defending.

As an Arsenal supporter I am unhappy that we got two players sent off for something other teams do as well without getting a yellow card. But I believe it is good movement and will lead to a better game going forward. I will be mad if I see another Arsenal player touching the ball after the whistle now.

I agree with your point on time wasting, but it's a stretch to punish kicking the ball out of anger/frustration just because the PGMOL decided that this constitutes as "time wasting". >>144627497
Cards should be reserved for offenses where players are deliberately breaking the rules of the game, endangering other players on the pitch or trying to deceive the match officials (in the case of diving). Booking players for timewasting is utterly absurd, the refs should be keeping track of how long the ball is out of play, so any "timewasting" should be accounted for with injury time. If the game needs to go on for an additional 20 minutes because players keep kicking the ball away, so be it.

Feels like from the mid-00s football in general started to turn really shit. There's still "characters", rivalries, and all of the good stuff from the past. I even miss when you would have someone like Mendieta joining Boro or Hierro joining Bolton (I know he was well finished by then but you get the point). More recent examples like Owen joining Stoke felt shit because you knew he was only there because he's a greedy little cunt.
>>
>>144628695

Thought I'd look it up out of curiosity. Man Utd have spent the second most amount of money in the league since Ten Hag took over, second only to Chelsea who are just a front for money laundering at this point. Somehow Spurs are 3rd despite Daniel Levy supposedly being a tight bastard. And Newcastle are being outspent by Nottingham Forest despite having the richest owners in world football.

The extra minutes were good, because it was fair. It penalises time wasting without being a total dictator about it. If you waste time because you're 1-0 up, your team will be penalised because it gives the opponent more opportunities to score with the extra time. PGMOL are dictators, their rules aren't fair.

>>144630020
Yes, he knows he made a mistake. The referees also expect a player with 20 years experience playing football (incl. academy football) to just completely remove a habit they've decided is worth penalising 3 months after the previous season ended. Imo that's nonsense.
>>
>>144630552
>The referees also expect a player with 20 years experience playing football (incl. academy football) to just completely remove a habit they've decided is worth penalising 3 months after the previous season ended. Imo that's nonsense.

volleying the ball away after the whistle has always been a yellow card anon, he knew it was a foul, knew the whistle had been blowing and boots it away, that's always been a yellow
>>
>>144630569
>volleying the ball away after the whistle has always been a yellow card anon
As far as I know, the intent was always important. Kicking a ball towards a ball boy or fan is 100% a yellow at least. But now, intent doesn't matter at all. The referees want you to believe it's for time wasting, but there's a ball for every 12 yards or so on either side of the pitch + ball boys. What the refs want is to protect themselves from abuse. You show any kind of frustration for a foul being given? Automatic yellow. You simply can't criticise the ref anymore or else it's a yellow, minimum. That's just unreasonable, I don't buy that it's for time wasting. The refs were moaning about them being abused a couple season ago, and now they're slowly implementing their solution.
>>
>>144630654
>As far as I know, the intent was always important

no, purposely volleying the ball away has always been a yellow card

City looked way off it, you could see too they were definitely overcelebrating considering the circumstances, each to their own though they must've really wanted the point. And United have a dogshit recent history with Palace so probably a point is good for Ten Hag.

So why don't they just get all 3 points instead?

He should actually be sacked by Sky at this point. Just replace him with Micah in all the youtube stuff and you'll only gain views.

>spend eman entire half believing other teams goal
>finally get one at the very end

every team would celebrate alot anon, if they scored with 20 minutes left it wouldn't have been a big celebration

The entire point of awarding 3 points for a win (as opposed to just 2) is that it makes playing for a win much more rewarding than playing for a draw. If you start awarding 2 points for a win + shootout win, you destroy that aspect. Plus there's nothing wrong with draws in a league match, unless you're a stupid yank who doesn't understand how a league works.
