Seattlle is over four hours away by road and that's with no traffic and perfect weather, neither of which could be relied on for game day. It would be difficult for Gonzaga to attract enough support for a football program at the FBS level. Their basketball arena seats 6000, a number of seats that is much easier to sell than the minimum needed for D1 football.
If Texas had scheduled a shitter instead of Ohio State, they'd be a lock for the CFP with a win over to Ass To Mouth next week. If they're out, the committee would be sending the message that it's better to schedule a cupcake than to lose a competitive game on the road to the #1 in the nation.
