oh whoops I posted on the old thread, guess I'll repost here
Once I finish downloading something, does it automatically start seeding it after?
If I move the file do i need to update the torrent somehow to keep seeding?

>Once I finish downloading something, does it automatically start seeding it after?
Yes, you also seed the pieces you've downloaded if you have partially downloaded something
>If I move the file do i need to update the torrent somehow to keep seeding?
You can right click the torrent and change the location to the new directory, although users have variable success with this
>Is 1 mb/s good enough for seeding?

How do I know if my ISP's assraping my torrents?

It's been kinda slow for months now, and I can't distinguish if I'm being throttled or it's just the congestion. I thought for most that 3rd world country ISPs don't throttle torrents as my current ISP is just a branch of the past ISP and that ISP didn't mind my torrents.

Any indications if my torrents are being throttled?
>>
New to torrenting. Thanks for this thread.

Whats a seedbox?

Whats a public tracker? Can I get into trouble for it?

How can I get into Private tracker groups?
>>
>>1056693
>Whats a seedbox?
Seedboxes are websites where you pay for something to download, store, and seed torrents for you and allow you to download and use them yourself. They offer extremely high speeds on both download and upload, which is useful for people with slow speeds, especially in a private tracker to gain ratio.
>Whats a public tracker? Can I get into trouble for it?
Basically what it says on the tin, a tracker that doesn't use private tracker announce URLs. In a private tracker, the only announce URL is the unique key tied to your account.
You'll mostly only get in trouble for big name TV shows and movies from Disney, HBO, and other big companies. And only if your ISP cares.
>How can I get into Private tracker groups?
You start climbing the ladder after reading this page (Might be a little outdated as far as the private trackers listed go).
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Private_trackers
https://interviewfor.red/en/index.html
Unfortunately, if you want to get into a "good" private tracker for the aforementioned TV shows and movies, they're the hardest to get into. Alternatively, you could wait for whatever site you want to get into to have open sign-ups, but most of the good ones are closed up for good and are invite-only. Some of the smaller ones have open sign-ups every so often and others have interviews regularly.

also, you say a VPN is worth the investment. If I know my ISP won't care about my shit, is it still worth it? Am I at danger by torrenting shit from here, or say some other big pirate site?
>>
>>1056666
>Depends but short answer is that a VPN is worth the investment
We don't get letters here unless it's newer and "local" stuff otherwise they don't seem to care
>>
>>1056749
>>1056760
I say it's worth the investment because it's good internet hygiene to have it enabled all the time unless you are gaming or something. Being able to use it while torrenting is just an added bonus, since you don't have to worry about what you download at all anymore.

Then again, if you can't afford a few USD per month, or don't really care about anonymity in general, it's not an absolute necessity. However, I think if it's within your budget, it's a no-brainer. Also, most VPN providers allow the use of 5-10 devices per account, so ask your friends, I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you decreased their limit by 1.

im curious if anyone knows how to fix this. my qbittorrent suddenly stopped displaying some torrents i added (magnets) i can still see it using the web ui which is fortunate, so im not at all worried about it desu but i was curious if anyone knew how to fix it.

picrel is the problem, both the client and the ui are in the "downloading" section, but as you can see one torrent is not visible in the client program vs in the web ui. this is the second torrent ive added thats done this

>i cant update qbit because my os isnt up to date, if the issue is i need to update then thats fine but im not really looking to be told to update it, i already know that may be the issue

>only if your ISP cares
How does an ISP know which kind of content you torrent? Isn't this encrypted?
I always thought you get letters from law firms that specialize in copyright infringement. And they would need a warrant to get your personal address from your ISP.
At least that's how it works in Germany I think.
>>
>>1056953
>How does an ISP know which kind of content you torrent? Isn't this encrypted?
https://iknowwhatyoudownload.com
>I always thought you get letters from law firms that specialize in copyright infringement. And they would need a warrant to get your personal address from your ISP.
i know in america the copyright owners send letters to the isp (because all they know is the IP that downloaded their content (get a vpn) and they know who owns the IP/ IP range- which is your ISP) your ISP will send you a cease and desist, apparently comcast will send 3 before any major action is taken. dunno how true that is but its what ive heard.
>At least that's how it works in Germany I think.
people are definitely liable to be sued by copyright holders, i have no idea how it works in Germany but probably youll definitely get a cease and desist unless you torrent more shit than you probably have bandwidth for
(although its worth noting they know everything you've torrented(if you arent hiding it in one way or another), so even if you did 1 movie a month, after 20 years you could've racked up a disgusting amount of shit for them to prosecute with)
>>
>>1056956
>https://iknowwhatyoudownload.com
I know this site, but it hasn't ever shown anything for me. I only torrent from nyaa though.
How does this site actually work? Do they have a crawler that automatically logs all torrents from popular trackers?

Also, what would be the incentive for ISPs to preemptively search for copyright infringements? They aren't the rights holders after all.
What they could care about from a business standpoint, is you using up all their bandwidth with torrenting in general. In that case they could simply throttle you.

Back to my original question: Is the actual torrent traffic encrypted? Could an eavesdropper in the same network see which kind of anime tiddies you are downloading?

I think what ISPs do is to follow those notices or requests from copyright holders or else they would be the ones to get billed. If I'm not mistaken one ISP got fined billions from the lawsuits of the copyright holders

I don't know shit about computers but I think your idea is correct. Something is probably logging all of those traffics in those trackers. I onced blackmailed my friend for being into scatporn. It doesn't really need to be in the same network for you to eavesdrop on their traffic. How do I seed while using a vpn?

Got a vpn today and while I have it connected my torrents does download but does not seed.
>>
Hello, Not sure if this an appropriate place to ask this question, so if not i apologize.

I run a torrent server out of my house using a truenas/freebsd qBittorrent jail.
because my ISP will send letters i have been using expressvpn's manual openvpn file to establish a connection. However after observing it i realized it can drop the connection and qBittorrent will continue to download torrents.

I have written a script
The way its suppose to work is detect if if there are any openvpn processes running using ps command
and then if there is a drop kill qbittorrent.

#!/bin/csh

openvpn-client [PATH TO OVPN FILE]
sleep 10

set vpnPS=`ps auxww | grep openvpn | wc -l`

if ("$vpnPS" > 1) then
while ( $vpnPS > 1)
qbittorrent-nox
set vpnPS=`ps auxww | grep openvpn | wc -l`
if ("$vpnPS" <= 1) then
killall qbittorrent-nox
endif
end
endif

However this doesn't seem to work as when i killall openvpn, qbittorrent continues to run.
>>

>>
>>1062038
you can't magically seed faster than the client that needs said data can download it, depends on a lot more factors than just your speed i.e the client's download speed limit, their number of connections on that torrent, your distance from each other. you can just leave it to seed and it'll go as fast as other people can make it go. don't worry about it.

look at the peers for your torrents, I've got Gig WAN and the highest I've ever seeded was 20MB/s (160Mb/s), it depends entirely on the internet speed of those connected to you, my current fastest torrent is 2MB/s however the fastest single peer I have is 250KB/s, what you need to remember is not everyone has internet as good as you.

If you want to really test your torrent client use another device on your LAN and download a torrent that you're seeding on your normal device, I've saturated gigabit ethernet with some torrents when I've been moving stuff from one device to my seedbox.

So am assuming the number in brackets means the total number of people actively seeding the torrent, correct? What does the 0 mean?

What's a good place for games for PC? 1337's fine but they're not always available as well as the one who uploads them is from IGGGame and Fitgirl which I avoid. I heard skidrowcodex . net is good but I recall someone selling that groups don't have websites so that's risky (need confirmation though).
>>
>>1069410
ive been going to https://dodi-repacks.site his repacks are pretty good
>>
>>1069399
bracket is total seeders and 0 means you're not connected to any of them (usually happens when you already got 100% of the chunks)

>freegoggames
I'm curious, is there a difference between that and gog-games?
>>
>>1069410
what's wrong with IGGames and fitgirl? literally the only 2 places I download games
>>
>>1069630
https://gog-games.com/ is a pirate site
you are thinking of gog.com

is ther an option in qbitorrent that blocks seeding? I set the limit to 1 mb but it doesnt seed for whatever reason and i cant figure out why?
>>
>>1069812
Use qbt's built in search feature
>>
how do you even go about getting the trackers to torrent using hashes for things like cracked game releases? for example the new tales of arise game released by FTL says it uses blake3 hashes in the release info, how would i go about setting that up so i could torrent it from my client?
>>
>>1069979
please seed :(
just set rate limit to 1kb/s or something or just seed a fraction of your bandwidth?

I'm currently using qbittorrent and a server with flood+transmission. I'd like to know if there's a better option like trying rutorrent+rtorrent again and how I'd go about installing all the good stuff (if docker is the way to go now)
>>
Anons I got a problem, I use mobile to pirate as my laptop is currently dead, I downloaded some Polish movies and eurobeat collection and was barely able to because of the low seed rate. I'm trying to seed them but both libretorrent and Flud apps won't upload, wat do? The movies are kino and should be enjoyed by everyone, they're Kiler 1&2 and Vabank 1&2
>>
>>1070613
If you upload them to google or something I can help you out. Otherwise I think you just wait and see if something eventually connects to your phone.
>>
>>1070751
It does by rarely. Turns out they've been doing some dumbass maintenance and it killed my connection pretty much, should be okay now

I'm trying to make a dump of hentai-cosplays.com and I found I can grab all images of a certain gallery easily with wget, the problem is that when I reverse search these images I get higher resolution results always from hentai-cosplays.com but when I open the site I just cannot find where these images are posted. Unlike galleries, they got an URL parameter for resolution that matches the exact height of the higher resolution pic, which makes it impossible with wget unless you know the height of the image beforehand, I don't want to reverse search every single pic to find the real height. Anyone knows how that site actually works?

okay post the magnet link i'll seed

Should I buy a NAS or just keep buying external hard drives to store my files? I'd like to back them up locally as well, and I think a network storage is better, though I'd prefer not connecting it to the network. Is this viable?

I need a licensed program for an assignment but don't have a proxy/vpn. If use one of those garbage free ones what risk do I take?
>>
>>1071904
you'll be fine downloading, but it's proper form to block the program's outgoing in the firewall for anything you download anyway. i got comcast on my ass once for not blocking gta4 and rockstar was autistic enough to send them a letter like 10 years ago

What's the best way to get into a private tracker nowadays? Years ago I got into a music one cause of a kind anon on /mu/ and was able to use that to get into others but after going off to school lost access to all of them due to inactivity. I know some do interviews but any time I check those they aren't currently having any.
>>
>>1072405
get invited, buy your way in either through a 3rd party or the site itself (the sites that do that like iptorrents aren't really private trackers), or just wait really.
>>
>>1072417
So I did see some third party sites that sell invites but aren't those accounts likely to just get shut down? I might be misremembering but I'm pretty sure when I was in some before I was basically responsible for anyone I invited and their actions could cause me to also get the axe.
>>
>>1060637
there will be some out there but not many. applications are to stop every tom dick and harry uploading TOTALLY LEGIT CRACKED SOFTWARE
>>
>>1072405
It seems the easiest is just waiting for open registrations on /r/OpenSignups, or begging for one and promising you will be a good boy and will seed.

I got into Jpopsuki from a friend luckily enough. Can't imagine joining others trackers without connections.

How do you these "screens" like image attached and what are they really called? What software is used?
>>
>>1072520
MPC allows you to do this.
Open the video file, click File.., Save thumbnails.
And then you can set the parameters (how many rows, colums, quality, etc.

Which VPN (if any) is best for torrents?
>>
I answered a question on /t regarding >>1029385 and something from HP Lovecraft. Why am I being blocked from posting on /t, I do realize that it wasn't a torrent but anyone including a lame ass cat would follow the two links, one to a lovecraft site, the other from there to archive. Explain yourselves?
NONE ARE CLICKBAIT and I answered another's question accurately.
>>
>>1072693
>Why am I being blocked from posting on /t
You're posting on /t/ right now
What are you talking about "being blocked"?
>>
>>1072405
go to the disabled channel in IRC for the trackers you're disabled on and see if they'll reactivate your account. Other than that, check out /g/ /ptg/ >>83411991

>>1072418
depends on the tracker but for the good ones, yeah you're likely to be banned sooner or later if you buy or otherwise receive invites on invite forums

>>1071552
build your own NAS/DAS, no need for something fancy like a synology.

>>1070589
docker is pretty nice. this guy has some videos on how to set that sort of thing up

Is mullvad a good VPN choice? I've literally never heard it talked about anywhere outside of here so I'm not sure if I'm being memed cause 5 dollars sounds sweet but also to good to be true, are the speeds ass?

What's do you guys think about https://ipfs.io ? They seems to be an alternate protocol for decentralized file sharing system. I uploaded a couple of movies and DRM-free games on there and it seems to work so far...

Stardew Valley (GOG version): https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmYBh6XLru1C8fviRP5bWpHaAXyPFgHG4BNAZFXTcTM4FJ

Noita (Itch.io version): https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmdPstvcFLPgQDj9fZZ45s7AbQnCKE7XHsf14FqJBEkTBi
>>
>>1073359
Forgot to mentions that Stardew Valley is an exe and Noita is a zip if anyone did try to download and open those files.
>>
>>1073359
Another example since DELTARUNE have small size (Itch.io version): https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmQGRZFQAhwD3WCRuknXfGqzou5jEpRDdZyvznTfBXMewY
>>
Guys, im downloading a torrent but its always stall at 76%. Delete torrent, retry, same result. Why?
>>
>>1073378
Because whomever is seeding only has 76% of the files.
>>
>>1072947
it's what most people suggest on the private trackers I'm on
>>
>>1056625
Is it safe to open torrented files or should I open a copy and keep the original file?
>>
Do you know or how can I know which ISPs in NY allow their costumers to use torrent? How does that work?
What I mean by that is, are they against torrenting in general or just against the use of torrent for downloading specific copyrighted material? Because what if what I'm downloading is a legitimate file like a Linux distro or some personal files that I share through torrent?
My last question is about tribler: https://www.tribler.org/
Since I can't afford a VPN, do you think Tribler can do the job to prevent issues with my ISP?
>>
>>1074386
What do you think is going to go wrong?
>>
>>1074443
Opening the file might change something in the metadata and that might make it bad for seeding? I vaguely remember somewhere that its better to copy the file and access it from there.
>>
>>1074443
>>1074568
Either way, I could just do it and force recheck right?
