I've seen DongHo Kim's perspective book on ehentai somewhere so no need to scan, but he's got a character book that I haven't seen anywhere. That or the other superani guy, stonehouse, are really valuable. I also have 4 or 5 random old-looking illustration manuals from Japan. It's a great set of resources, would be honored to give a little back.
>>1210102If they're perfect binding, you can dismantle the glue goo at the spine with heater/iron/hair dryer and re-glue them back after scanning. Just don't overdo it or you'll have a mess of slimy glue. Just heat enough until you can take off the paper block and rub the glue goo off. If they're hard covers, they're basically perfect binding paper block within two cardboards and extra paper to hold themin place. Unless the book is made from earlier era or special edition (hand stitched) then a cutter is required. Once you've obtained the paper blocks (meaning the actual content of the book), divide them by twos until you get a thin bunch of pages that you can feed in your scanner and they're flat on the surface and so you can untangle the block and keep track the pages with sticky note. I'd like to keep them around 20 pages before scanning so that they're easier to manage and rebind later. You can always publish the raw scans with minimal editing (if that book has your names or credentials, censor it). 300 dpi scan setting is sufficient for pages with photos, diagrams and beautiful artworks, Rebinding them is easy because all you need is an A3 paper of color of your choice, office/PVA glue, silicone/wood glue (so the pages can be turned easily and flexible), ruler and cutter. Personally I like to rebind my books so that they're the same size in my library after digitizing them for archive.org.
