I posted this in the IT Certification thread we had a while ago, but it died shortly after. I pulled Mike Meyers A+ and Net+ video series off of Linkedin when they had them posted for free. I never posted them again, but they're good resources, so the torrent shouldn't die.

Ended up getting an MBA in IT Management and PMP, and now somehow got a support engineer working on home and building servers/automation, and still don't know what I'm doing. Anyway looking to expand my IT background.

Anyway my dream job is IT at Lego, and they're building their first manufacturing center near me in the next few years, and want to be the ideal employee when they start interviewing. Any idea on what I should get certs for?

I've been meaning to take my Azure certs in the next few months, but what are some other good certs to get?

As someone who is trying to get into IT and about to take the A+ exam what would my next best step be education wise? " Based on your experience do you have any advice for the best way to establish a work from home job that doesn't include spending a lot of money on school? Would a focus on PMP be more productive?
>>
anything on electrical engineering?

A PMP is only good if you have years of experience under your belt actually managing projects.

Tangentially related: If you get your MBA right out of college, then you're just screwing yourself. An MBA is to help show work experience as well, so an MBA right after college with no work experience = a hard time finding a job. The same is true for the PMP. Unless you have 3+ years managing projects at any scale, I wouldn't bother with the PMP. I would instead get the CAPM ONLY if you want to get into Project Management. As someone whos been a hiring manager, I see MBA's and PMP's with no actual work experience, I know theyre fucking stupid. Do not get a PMP without actually having worked on projects, otherwise you'll never make it past the screening phase of the interview. The PMP does not equal real world experience honestly. I've led a lot of projects for small/medium sized business when I had my own company, and now work on multimillion multiyear long projects for a fortune500.

To "get into IT", your best bet is to get your A+, (get Security+/Network+ to if you want, it only helps), and work a helpdesk job at an MSP for a year or so. MSP's give you GREAT experience on a wide range of issues, and then from there can pick and choose what "specialty" you want to focus your career path on, whether it be cloud, project management, networking, engineer of some sort. Work a shitty MSP/Help desk position, then switch fast. If youre there for more than 2 years, then you are destined for help desk forever. At all my jobs when I deal with someone who has been at help desk for more than 2 years I know they are legitimately retarded and theres a reason they can't progress any further.

I can't speak for the IT side of things, but in the realm of construction, project managers and anyone middle-to-upper management on larger-scale projects only get the PMP to season their resumes. At best, it will instill useful skills...but, that is if you are not already utilizing your own version of it in your own capacity. Experience and achievements go further than any cert will.

Here's a textbook on Construction Estimating:

Yeap, MBA's and PMP's are there to spice your resume up. Without the foundation knowledge of what kind of work goes into projects, youre just going to screw yourself further down the line.

One of my old companies hired a project manager right out of WGU MBA program, which I have no problem with the program, since it's exactly what I did since I got the MBA in IT. BUT - anything that went wrong during the project, she was fucking clueless. She didn't understand technology terms and we were required to dumb thing down to a 5th grade level specifically for her.
I remember looking at her LinkedIn, and she was previously an office assistant turned PM, and at that point lost all respect for her.

project managing. it's a thing. probably one of the biggest things you can manage.
Is there any specific way to get into such a thing outside of a degree?
or is it
"Hello, I have a business degree. I have Xinternership or Xjobexperience which shows i can manage a team and calculate xmetrics to improve xperformance"

as dumb as it may sound, is there a branch system showing levels of education that might lead from your basic comptia A+&net&sec+ into some kind of pmp shit or is it a totally different game and aim for something like AWS or azure stuff for steady salary of like 80K for someone who cares to put in the effort

I have a bachelor degree and started my career working as an operations manager at a real estate startup. I worked with the product team in making apps and internal tools (they made, i just watched and gave inputs).
In my next company I joined as a associate product manager. Here I worked on both product and project management.

Then I did some IT courses and joined a big IT company as a project manager.

My next aim is to be a solutions engineer at at big IT company.

To answer your question, if you wanna get into IT project manager roles, one easy way is to become a product manager first (bcz it's easy to become one) then get some certifications like PMP, then apply for project management roles.
