How to install games:
Most games come in .tar.gz archives. Extract them and you'll get a .sh file. Make it executable (chmod +x file.sh) and run it (./file.sh) to install the game. If you use a graphical file manager, you can right click => Properties => Permissions.
Some games are ISO files. You can extract them like an archive or mount them (mount -o loop file.iso /mnt/something). If you use a graphical file manager, you can right click => Mount, or use Furius ISO Mount (available in most distros' repositories and the Ubuntu Software Center).

I set this up yesterday.

>Install wine staging 3.5, setup new prefix
>download game to prefix
>download dxvk dlls and place into game folder with exe or Windows system
>tell wine to use native dxvk dlls
>set env var DXVK_HUD=1 for vulkan dxvk overlay
>run exec in wine
>>
>>827168
1. staging isn't required, though you'll want 3.5 still
2. dxvk ships with setup scripts, you can install it with just
WINEPREFIX=/full/path/to/prefix setup_dxvk
not the same, with a VM, you're running windows. many console emulators and dosbox don't use or rely on any code from the original system's
if Wine is allowed, then so should HLE console emulators, the only significant difference between them is the inclusion of hardware (cpu, etc) emulation as well

does anyone know if the gog version of Age of Wonders 2 will work in wine?
https://www.gog.com/game/age_of_wonders_2_the_wizards_throne

the version on IGG-games is badly outdated (2.0.0.6) and doesn't even seem to work on windows, on wine it installs fine but just crashes to a black screen
and looking on the forums any actual support for linux seems abysmal, and I can't find anything to resolve this issue

And I don't want to go and buy this game if it won't work at all, and there is no support for it.
>>
>>829695
how do you tell what the current version of a gog package is?
i'm grabbing 2.0.0.6 to have a shot at it, and it's the same size (393.7MiB) as is listed on the gog page, at least
i wouldn't imagine many games from 2002 have had patches come out since first coming to gog (besides installer changes)
>>
>>829738
usually it states it in the filename, for example aow2-setup2.0.0.6.exe
and the playonlinux scripts seem to be set for 2.0.0.12
but the version that igg-games has is the outdated 2.0.0.6 version, and I'm not sure where to get the updates for the gog version, so I'll have to try to hunt down either a torrent of the .12 version, or a torrent of a non-gog version and install the no-cd crack, and the 1.4 community patch which as far as I can tell, fixes all the issues that are present

It is interesting to note, that from browsing the gog forums, all the problems present on the gog version of the game are entirely new and only occur on gog versions, even the current gog version in some cases (something to do with the devs of the game itself putting in a no-cd patch in the first release of the game, then updating that to remove the no-cd patch due to legal problems arising from secuROM whom that apparently had some sort of deal with)
tl;dr corporate politics fucks over people wanting to play a game more then a decade after it stopped getting patches
fuck this gay earth

i been testing it out for a bit, using wine staging 3.6, 32bit prefix
the game uses 16bit colour and directx7, neither are particularly nice to work with nowadays
the game closes at the main menu when starting with directx enabled, but runs with it disabled
the game is extremely unresponsive if i limit it to one core, which is unusual for a game of this vintage, typically limiting to one core helps with compatibility
i've never played this game before, so i have no clue how to progress, but it seems to be working fine

Flatpak is actually superior.
Appimages wouldn't work with repositories because you'd have to re-download the entire program, so updates would be clunky or require the app dev to implement a proper updater.
Appimages don't share libraries and dependencies, meaning they'd take a lot more space than flatpaks.
Appimages aren't sandboxed, so malicious actions are impossible to block.
>>
>>837533
All of which defeats the point of downloading single executables entirely. Flatpak solves a problem that is inherently does not actually exist outside of someone not wanting to do multi-distro packaging which only happens with complete dogshit software that noone can be bothered to do distro packaging for.
>>
>>837665
>only happens with complete dogshit software that noone can be bothered to do distro packaging for.
You're retarded. Multi-distro packaging is a waste of time and it's a huge problem and a reason why a lot of developers don't even make linux software or don't even provide Linux installers and just tell you to compile shit yourself. Flatpak, snaps and appimages will fucking save desktop Linux.

Hello frens does anyone have a GoG hollow knight torrent/mega link?
>>
>downloaded Celeste, it doesn't open just redirect me to the Steam Celeste page
>downloaded Super Mario 64 HD, it opens a settings window and as soon as I click OK the Unity logo appears and the game crashes (with the error message "Aborted (core dumped)")
>downloaded Binding of Isaac, after literally 12 times of it giving me an error message because of a 32 bit library on my 64 bit system, I locating the name of the package for the library in question, installing it, and trying again, a window finally opened: it said "libssl3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" even though I already have this library and it's fucking 32 bit version
>downloaded Tomb Raider and after more fucking million library downgrades just like with Binding of Isaac this library is not found: librtmp.so.0. When I try installing it's 32-bit version it gives me a shitload of errors about broken dependencies and it being impossible to install

Man fuck this shit
I'm gonna keep playing console games on PCSX2 and Dolphin

Run this command: file ./hoi4

It should give you info about the file, in particular if it is a 32bit executable. If you have a 64bit distro, you need to install 32bit libraries. Try ldd ./hoi4 to get the list of libraries used and install the matching 32bit versions with the package manager.

I bet it will affect the end user. Tons of code that doesn't work will be implemented because otherwise you're a racist misogynist bigot, and will leave the kernel broken. And soon, you will see changes in common terms you use that might be considered offensive like master/slave, the kill command and the like. Linux will not be usable in the near future if this CoC stays.
Remember: CoC exists solely for misuse and abuse.

Dualshock 4 over bluetooth. Works fine with every native game I've tested except this one. L2/R2 triggers are assigned to the right stick's x/y axis for whatever reason, and then the character gets stuck in aiming mode until I restart the game. The face buttons are mapped incorrectly too, but at least those don't break the game.

Servers are usually the targets of the few attacks on Linux based systems, and the I feel like Linux desktop community would be a pretty shit target on account that most users are good at avoiding attacks. So you should be safe as long as you don't download form shady sites, the usual type of stuff. Although there is one area that I'm not entirely sure about. That is Wine as far as I know it has the basic security functions and stuff, but I'm sure how well checked it is for exploits. So I just stick with native Linux games. Here is a pretty great archive of some of them: https://the-eye.eu/public/Games/.

i would also appreciate some tips on running it since im using a third party controller and last time i tried it on windows and i had to use a program to use it

If it's xinput, it should work out-of-the-box.
If it's directinput, it's a gamble on if the game supports it.

I was able to get it up and running with wine. Although the latest version I can find is a CODEX crack for it which has it's on installer, and that installer wouldn't work on wine. So I ran it in Window 7 VM installed it on there then transferred the files back to my host machine. After a bit of troubleshooting I was able to get it to run. Only problems I had was fps drops in the late game and the rare crash, but other than that it worked perfect. I was gonna re-download the torrent and do the install and then I seed the installed filles for anyone interested. For now though here is the magnet link to the original crack

Maybe we don't want the Wintards and MacHipsters to come and turn our versatile and free powertool, that we have full control over because we have a clue, into the shitty jailware they are used to.

just use stallman's kernel, as long as he's in charge of that it'll be fine.

...is this board going to die/be deleted with the site change?
I don't think pirating stuff is "advertiser friendly"
>>
>>857375
/t/ is NSFW, so it should be left on the old, "blacklisted" domain.

Stallaris on rutracker

Don't know if this is what you want though so good luck, bro.

I'm out of the lop what what blacklisted domain?
>>
>>857522
4chan.org is "blacklisted" from the major ad companies, most likely due to the porn boards and casual use of "harmful" language.
SFW boards are being migrated to the second site, 4channel, so jewroshima can get more ad revenue.

im new to linux, and computers in general, is this something i should be trying? or should i just stick to my cucksol?
>>

If you care about your privacy (as in, not transmitting everything you do online to third parties), yes. There are other reasons, like actually having control of what runs on your machine.
>>
>>857561
welp, i guess ill be sticking with whats been working.
i guess free stuff is never free
>>
>>857563
You went in the wrong direction with that, buddy. It's the corporate shit that has it's probes so far your behind they're sticking out of your nose.

>>
Also if anyone has Stardew Valley v1.3.38 preferably on GOG but works too Steam please please please create a torrent and seed for awhile. I've been looking for months now.
>>
