If you have a question please post it here and another anon will answer.
Please do this instead of creating a new thread, because that could cause an actual torrent thread to be killed.

One question that I've seen so far, and a good example of a question that didn't need it's own thread:
What is this long string of text and what do I do with it? - it's probably a magnet link. You utilize those by copying the string, and finding the place in your torrent client where you paste it. Usually you do something like File>add torrent and then look for the URL box.

differences between .torrent file and magnet
>>
>>974627
what are the differences*
>>
>>974627
When you download a .torrent file, your client has enough information to begin talking to other clients. It can then ask them to send it chunks of the file it's looking to download.

When you paste a magnet link into your client it has what it needs in order to go out and find the information that a .torrent file would have provided immedietly.

magnets are more convenient which is why they are popular.
.torrent files just add a couple extra steps but you accomplish the same thing.

I'm new to this torrenting thing. I'd like to get involved in a private tracker community that has a good archive of media from porn to TV/movies. I don't have a seedbox, but I am happy to seed/contribute in order to be active in the community.

question is, where do I even look for private trackers? googling doesnt seem too helpful, unless im retarded or something. Where do I get my foot in the door of private tracker world and begin this journey?

I'm interested in downloading a game - Tekken 7 specifically. But is it possible to use the online multiplayer mode with torrented games? And if yes, is it any more dangerous than with normally bought games?
>>
>>975086
You should go lurk on /g/ for a while. There are some guys that post pretty regularly about private trackers and they might be able to act as a conduit if you show your serious. You'll need a seedbox and you'll need to regularly contribute fresh, unique, high quality material. Your seed ratio will need to be amazing and eventually someone will pick you up.

Keep an eye out for /ptg/ private tracker general threads on /g/, they usually post a primer along with it.

Most modern software includes a mechanism for detecting non-genuine copies and preventing it from being used online. Not saying it won't work. Not saying it'll work forever. Just decide if it's worth it to you.

http://erdgeist.org/arts/software/opentracker/
>>
>>975150
I believe that's a copy with multi-player included although I did not spend a lot of time looking at the details.
When I say 'worth it to you' it's an all encompassing statment. Yeah, theres a remote possibility of being caught although it's unlikely anyone cares. Mostly I just mean is it worth your time. You download it, get it set up, maybe it doesn't work. Maybe it works for a little while and then locks you out or something.

It might be simpler just to buy the game. I never torrent games because it always turns into a pain in my ass. Music, movies, and books yes because I know what I'm getting. But with software you're basically downloading someones modified garbage and hoping it works.
>>
>>975137
I can't speak for the game you're specifically interested in, but in general, you won't be able to play online. Most games these days require an account, so you won't be able to authenticate with a pirated game.

Still, take it on a case-by-case basis. I wouldn't say it's "dangerous", just either possible or not possible.

>>

ssh and ftp are communications protocols used for moving files to and from systems remotely.
basically what he is saying is that you could set up a seedbox (a designated computer, usually a remotly hosted server dedicated to hosting and sharing torrents) and then you could move files to and from your local computer via ssh or ftp. a program like winSCP is probably your best bet for learning about ssh and ftp. the seedbox is probably out of your reach at the moment so don't worry about it.
all you really need is a torrent client like deluge or qbittorrent.

VPNs have applications where they can be usefull, and many where they are useless.
They're somewhere in the middle when it comes to torrents.
I'll assume you know nothing, and will attempt to provide an easily understandable explaination. Your internet service provider assigns you an IP, and when you access the internet that is the IP that the website sees. So, if you are using centurylink, and they've given you an ip of 123.123.123.123, then when you access a website, they see that they were visited by a user with IP address 123.123.123.123. This matters because when you're stealing movies off the internet with bittorrent, anyone else downloading the torrent see most of the attached peers. Disney and a few other companies make logs of these IP addresses; then, they send out mass emails to the various ISPs threatening them and forcing them to take action. Generally this action involves a warning email from your ISP, and maybe they'll cancel your service if you keep it up. At worse, Disney will force them to identify you and will sue you for damages if you steal too much, or if they feel like it.
Everything that you access travels through your ISP, and then out onto the greater internet with a few exceptions like certain CDNs.
With a VPN, everything still moves through your ISP, but it is is encrypted, and stays that way untill it exits your ISPs network, at which point it makes it's way to the VPN server (still encrypted) when it reaches the VPN server it is decrypted and routed to wherever it is supposed to go. Most VPNs claim not to keep logs. Assuming they aren't lying, this means that if disney or someone contacts them claiming that a user is stealing movies, and the user has such and such IP address, the VPN will tell them to pound sand and won't be able to help them locate you.

You have to decided who you trust less, your ISP, or your VPN provider. I've had great luck with various VPNs, and poor luck with my ISP.
>>
>>978569

I wouldn't trust that one anon, CODEX is a scene group and scene groups don't have websites (which means that's a fake website copying a group's name, probably distributing malware).

Where is the best place to find older, not so popular movies? 70's - 80's. I have checked most of the bigger torrent sites, but wasn't able to locate what I was looking for.
>>
>>979121
The request redirect pinned post is so old that it predates the second request board made to get around the wave of porn requests killing the general nature of the original request board. Not that anyone on either board really follows the expectations of filling other requests while waiting on your own. Everyone is asking to be spoonfed and most people who knew things and just lurked the request boards just got tired of simple idiots who couldn't handle basic internet searches on their own. They basically act as a containment to avoid other boards being overrun with spoonfeed requests and that's it.

That said, it's pretty obvious moderation here boils down to removing posts with enough reports or the odd DMCA request as there is no active moderation. Doing anything more on a board that skirts its own rules with most posts in direct contention to the rules isn't likely. The fact this board still lives is a miracle as is and asking to have a baby sitter is naive to just how borderline /t/ has become. The days of mostly copyright free content from other nations or free sources instead of porn and other copyrighted material is long gone. Just learn to report and ignore shit instead of giving it attention so the few threads that still make this board worth visiting don't end up caught in the crossfire. Learn to let this board just be what it is.

Plus there's nothing stopping you from going to /r/ and /wsr/ and filling requests if you really want to help those asking for things. No need to bring any more of that here if those other boards work as intended. And if they don't then why would it work any better here?

Literally whatever has the cheapest price per TB. Imo 5400rpm is better for power/heat/noise but "5400rpm" drives are now often actually 7200 anyway. Cheapest way is to just externals from seagate/wd since they're usually cheaper per TB than internals. You can also shucc the housing if you want to use them internally.
Side note, avoid the smaller low end wd/seagate drives (8tb and under Seagate barracudas and wd anything 6tb and under), as they're likely to be SMR which is shit.

Move the directory in qbittorrent and force recheck the torrent.

Basically a remote server that you download torrents to. You can move files between it and your local machine through ftp or sftp. Seedhost.eu is a good one, I've heard. Feralhosting also pretty good.

Plex/jellyfin or just move the files to the iPad

Not sure what you're talking about but increase the amount of virtual ram your system uses. That way if you go over your system memory it won't crash your shit. Alternatively, buy more RAM. There should also be a way to limit the amount of memory a program can use, google is your friend.

On public trackers, those are pretty much your two options. There's a private tracker that specializes in 4gb movie torrents which are allegedly of good quality. Can't remember the name but /g/'s /ptg/ could probably help you.

I have a torrent stuck at 98.20% for 3 months. Is there a way to complete it, or do I have to wait until someone seeds?

Wait till someone seeds or find the files elsewhere. What's the torrent?

Any coomers wanna shed a light on how to access the sexy-egirls forums? When you register an acc all the good stuff is locked behind and I am not sure where I can post shit to gain that stupid "member status" stuff. I have some sets but it seems I need to answer someone's request to make a post that won't get deleted or some shit

VLC on iOS is great for that. At least used to be, haven't used it in a long time

Take a laptop out to someplace with shittily setup public wifi that lets torrents through, sit on the sidewalk outside, and do your business. Fuck the baristas.

Anyone have good design and architectural torrents/magnets. I have found mostly dead links.

Looking for programs to specifically design outdoor living spaces and landscapes.

So how I do up my game?

Also should I be using a VPN? What could a person do with my real IP anyways?

>So how I do up my game?
I just leave qbittorrent open in the background whenever my PC is on, basically seeding all the time.
Picrel is from the last 3 days.
>Also should I be using a VPN? What could a person do with my real IP anyways?
That's more if you're worried about your ISP complaining or something, not other people.

I use deluge. I usually don’t have any problems and I use bandwidth settings that are very similar to the ones recommended in the sticky.

Lately I have been having issues. Torrents will start at good download speeds, and then slow to a crawl of 1-15KiB/s. They start off strong and the slow down and stay there forever. It will take me 2 weeks to download a 45gb file. This is happening to all of the magnet links I try to use no matter how many seeders there are at the time. Anyone ever have this happen? Anyone know a possible fix?

I'm using a pc and vpn to torrent but using my android phone as a wifi adaptor (wifi tethering), is this opening me up to any vulnerabilities i.e. will I be receiving a letter from my isp later on? Or am I good with just the vpn on my pc

I'm a rookie when it comes to creating and seeding. Currently trying to seed a file but getting Offline (Time Out) errors from the tracker. I've been able to download, but not sure why seeding is a problem.
Using uTorrent. Should I switch to another client?

Already tried that, this is the magnet link that is created when I hit paste, you can see the screenshot even scrolls down further.

Really tired of sifting through dead links in TPB

Does anyone burn DVDs here? What software do you use to load ISO files and create menus for the DVDs you burn? I love the simple and modular menus of the Win7 Windows DVD Maker software, but it isn't recognizing the ISO files I make with DVD Flick so I'm at an impasse in getting these movies and documentaries burned to a disk.

The sticky says not to trust files that have passwords, why is that? The .txt file gives the password first thing and the rip is from a "trusted" uploader so I'm inclined to trust it.
