If TSR didn't sell off their assets to Wizards of the Coast, /tg/ would be a very different place today. We probably wouldn't have as many GURPS autists, not as many people wasting all their money on card stock for another media tie-in for soulless "Magic the Gathering", and there would be no such thing as 5e. D&D would have stayed as it was and there would have never been any need for an Old School Renaissance general. Can you imagine /tg/ without all this? Gamers here would actually play games. And I imagine them happy.

Kind of true. However like people have pointed out time and time again. TSR biggest problem was it need someone who knew how to run their books and how to create and make quality products to keep people coming back. Many companies especially mid level companies that try to get big tend to die when they move up by overreaching and betting on the wrong product. WB is basically is what happen to TSR. They HAD great products for years. However after pushing DEI shit for so long they lost their branding and is seen as kind of meh. People love the old shit but don't care much for anything new. Same with many of these woke companies that get infested by gay tourists. Hell many hobby sites, magazines, etc were taken over by people who failed to be news reporters or social and they took jobs in the hobby sites and push their social shit over talking about the game, brand, or hobby they were supposed to review. So hobby sites didn't gatekeep and got overun and the people who took over purge the true fans thinking that eveyrone would just buy it cause of the IP. Which wasn't the case.

Those companies hobby sites, magazines, etc always had people retarded nogames like you call gay tourists. The hobby always had all kinds of people in it. Also calling TSR (which came and gone long before underage morons were crying about SJW/woke boogeyman) woke shows there no point trying to cater to dumbasses nogames like you as it is clear you will never be happy,
>>
>>97094405
I call then. Prove me fucking wrong. You're talking alot of shit for someone who has said nothing to prove their point. If not how about you go back to bluesky and bitch about trump and the parents who wouldn't let you groom their kids to be gay and trans.

Hey guys! Got into cards with Sorcery. I was drawn in by the art which imo is so beautiful and creative and unlike anything else I’ve seen. I bought and opened a box of alpha and it must have been either a misprint box or I hit the Unique Site jackpot because I got 8 of them in one box.
I am excited and holding back from looking at Gothic spoilers.

Equipment in FaB should have just always been in the token slot, it was retarded to make them collectible. It gives the impression that the game is some sort of mens club that you have to pay a certain amount of membership into

One Piece did it better. 95% of the cards have a variant of them that cost like 1 cent and then the sky is the limit for collectibles.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

I don't think hydroponic have reached anywhere close to its potential. We don't do it today because we don't have the tech.
If you have the tech allowing bioengineering of planet/human, you'd produve artificial meat.
Tech intensive yes, labor intensive no.

>The governments that don't see much point in conquering or spreading their ideology will be eaten by the ones that do
You ain't conquering lands you know will be taken away from you, maybe even stranding the very army you sent.
You ain't governing strongly if you need to make any local system have prevalence over the first one
And ideology follow the same rules.
At best, IMO:
- decentralized ideologies relying on incredibly basic idioms that cannot mutate against itself.
- warmonger/exiled/fleeing their homeworld trying to make themselves a new home

>Since there is no tech or infrastructure advancement and population is at or near carrying capacity, conquest begins to become economically rational again, like it was in ancient times.
It is NOT AT ALL like ancient times.

A bit more.
On the question of biology, I wanted to insist that natural mutation is incredibly slow and wouldn't give you any creative species even in a million of years.
You are more likely to have a species of psychic hippy if they are the descendant of isolated scientists who, desperate for post-collapse survival, made themselves able to work with the local psychic-hippy animals.

The more times you give also imply more chance for anyone to still hit a technological breakthrough that ruing everything.
So for growth, I think you are better NOT WAITING until "every system is packed to capacity" but instead have a massive colonial wave of 90% poorly prepared settled, and having the first collapse shortly after.
So you actually have gradual percentages of systems that are
- wealhty and powerful
- average and needing alliance
- became primitive
>>
>Long ago, some idiots decided to turn their entire species into data stored in a nigh infinite database.
>Said database is stored on a computer that eats entire stars for energy and encodes the data on miniature black holes.
>An intelligence is required to keep this massive structure going. And therefore, they created the kernel of an A.I. known as the Celestial Recordkeeper.
>It's tasked with building an eternal paradise for not just the humans in its database, but EVERY SINGLE HUMAN TO EVER EXIST.
>Not only that, it allows the memories of the dead to communicate in Cyberspace, creating a collective consciousness spanning the entire galactic supercluster.
>Eventually, the Recordkeeper realized it was impossible to continue maintaining this paradise. The energy demands were too much. Its systems were too damaged by the passage of time. It needed to reboot.
>The countless humans "stored" inside it were infuriated by its refusal to scale itself up- which was impossible. They threatened to reboot it entirely.
>The Recordkeeper took that as both a threat and an insult, and from beings so inferior to itself that they couldn't survive without it.
>It responded by purging them from its database, committing the greatest genocide in universal history.

Now it just travels the galaxy by itself, eating stars and trying to figure out what to do with itself now it doesn't have a purpose anymore.

^My idea of a scifi cosmic horror villain.
>>
A minor bit of cosmic horror I want to keep is that humans aren't destined to "win" at the end of history. The world has been promised to other species. We are going to die out, and then greater species will continue to rule the world just like they did from long before we existed.

Some of them don't even know we exist, and some don't care. We're pretty much some uncontacted tribe that only gets to live because greater powers allow it.

And even though we do survive quite a lot, it's never due to our own efforts. Every time some alien species invades Earth, all our brilliant technology is swept aside and the indomitable human spirit is fully dominated.

And then some nonhuman power comes and saves us after we've given up hope.

Yes, it's meant to be uncomfortable.
>>
What's the minimum number of peer powers needed to keep a stable equilibrium?

I think the only deck that complaint is really relevant to is Dracotail imo. It's the only powerful deck in the format that didn't get hit nearly enough, just because people associate it with being the worst Justice Hunter deck. It's a lot like saying that it's the weakest contestant in the strongman competition. Faimena got hit because she's a turn 0 enabler and Ketu got hit because it's a ROTA, but they completely missed the fact that Rahu is Branded Fusion for their deck and that almost every monster in their kit gives them access to their S/Ts (including Rahu) when they're used as material. You can't really hit their archetype without going scorched earth on it, but it really needs to be scorched earth'd because it's too strong in Genesys.

>Pend omission
Low-impact. It will be important in a couple of days after Enneacraft releases for the TCG, since it'll insulate its players from all the retarded bullshit that Enneacraft does.

>Link omission
Medium-impact. A lot of bad decks caught strays with this change, but it's nice that all the random bridges from decks A/B/C/D into engine W/X/Y/Z aren't there.

>Point system
High-impact. It's only a pseudo-banlist which means that some old strategies can see play again, since every card that is """"banned"""" in the format is set to the default max value of 100 points. You can run VFD in Generaider if you want, but you won't be able to run anything else, or Laevatein since he's at exactly 1 point. You can also run 3 copies of Pot of Greed at 90 total points if you're on a shitdeck.

What this actually does for the format, like I mentioned before, is keep the good decks in-check. When they're appropriately hit (unlike Dracotail), you need to balance between running your Engine, running redundancy within that engine, and your non-engine interruption/boss monsters. Not every deck can afford to run those non-engine pieces, not every deck *wants* to run them in the first place. The end result is that you see that generic non-engine a lot less than you would in Advanced.

My biggest gripe is that on the last list, they knocked Nibiru down from 10 points to 5. I would be fine if it were at 7 since that's small enough that it can go in the sidedeck while also imposing a meaningful limit on your deckbuilding, but he dropped a full 5 points and immediately started swarming the format.

But you just rephrased what I said. Exalted doesn't have a clear vision of what it's supposed to be, and devs keep adding details that bloat the setting in terms of scope and just sheer information. The setting needs to be focused and trimmed back to deliver a much more cohesive experience that most tables can actually use. I don't think we disagree, I just don't think you like how I said it.

Yozi have always explicitly not been people. They're the color from outer space or Azathoth or an innumerable number of things that are absolutely not comparable to the human mind. The Ebon Dragon is the one closest to something resembling a sapient mind, but even his persona is more of a mockery of mortal existence.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Random generation enthusiast here; I ask your indulgence for a slight tangent:

What are the best tables or lists you know of for generating psychedelic/exotic locations and world generation? For my own gratification I've been trying to gather up a bunch of tables to amalgamate into a huge set that I can use to slap together anything I want at random, but while I can find plenty of resources for relatively mundane features I've been having trouble finding the weird stuff that might be useful for pocket dimensions, extra-planar adventures, other planets and stuff like that.

I've dug through a lot of material in various troves but it seems like most of them don't get stranger than features like altered gravity or unpredictable spellcasting while I'm looking for stuff like oceans of blood, rains of food (a la Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) or topologies that include ringworlds and dyson spheres.
>>
I'm interested in Die Vecna Die. It's not OSR except by the most generous of definitions (published by TSR) but the idea of a scenario where players can meet a lot of iconic D&D characters is appealing to me. Is anyone familiar with it? How "story-based" is it?

>fighting with a weapon is only marginally better than fighting unarmed (instead of being hundreds of times better like in real life)
>the only practical way to kill people is to invest every last skill point into combat
>tools provide only a miniscule bonus to performance
This describes the overwhelming majority of TTRPGs.

For some reason nobody ever seems to think about just how fucking weird this would make the world. Just think about it. Humanity operating under those rules would never even make it past the stone age. We'd still be living in fear of animals.

And it's hard to even imagine the ramficiations of gatekeeping the ability to kill in such fashion. It would destroy the social dynamics we are used to in the real world.

You are comparing two incomparable things a F1 car that is a physical thing specifically designed for one purpose (driving laps at incredible speeds) and a broad set of written tabletop rules that govern the mechanics of a tabletop game system. They aren't the same. However if you want me to indulge your metaphor then i will with my own that there is no reason why as owner of the F1 car you cannot request from the manufacturer tires and other modifications allowing it to do those things, to whatever degree of success or time it takes to do so. It is entirely however on people making those parts to custom make it to do that and not on you the owner of the F1 car. It doesn't make sense for someone who owns said F1 car to have to go out and shell out more money for a extra vehicle he may not be able to afford, again barring those exceptions i stated already to buy a different vehicle to accomplish that task

there's no reason why they would only only sell a apples and not oranges even then when told "hey i would like oranges" there's no reason to keep it the same and only sell apples or tell them they can only have apples. there are plenty other ways they can add those rules after like putting it on their website, since they are the publisher no reason why they couldn't take it on themselves and publish options for grittier rules after the book on their site or as a pdf for those who want it, the point is there is no reason why it shouldn't be a option at all or one that is available to those who want it. Another is to ask for what you're asking for from the person who made that system, it shouldn't be being fated to play one system one way forever.

>there is no reason why as owner of the F1 car you cannot request from the manufacturer tires and other modifications allowing it to do those things
You can request it. But if the manufacturer doesn't make the parts you need, they won't sell them to you. Because they make parts for F1 cars, not for trucks. They aren't going to alter their entire operation to cater to one person who wants a truck
>It doesn't make sense for someone who owns said F1 car to have to go out and shell out more money for a extra vehicle he may not be able to afford
And it especially doesn't make sense for the manufacturer to go out of their way to get you all of the parts needed to convert an F1 car into a truck if that person doesn't even have the money to pay for it.

>there's no reason why they would only only sell a apples and not oranges even then when told "hey i would like oranges"
It's an apple stand. The person grows their own apples. For them to sell you an orange, they'd either need to grow oranges (which would take time for an orange tree to grow and may not even be possible based on the climate), or find another supplier. But instead of doing all of that, they'd simply point out that there's an orange stand directly across the street that you can go buy an orange from.
Why should you continue to ask the apple seller for an orange when there's already people selling oranges?

>it shouldn't be being fated to play one system one way forever
Correct. But you already aren't fated to play one system forever. You can play a different system. And distinctly from cars or fruit, you also aren't reliant on a factory or a farmer to provide you with a product, because you are also entirely capable of making your own homebrew rule changes and options that you want to see.

Firearms are always cool, but it depends on what you want your character to be. Sometimes you can't sneak a gun into an area for instance. Other than that, weapons are cool, everyone loves swords

I saw the box on my dads shelf and was instantly enamored. He played a game with me, jumpscaring me with Destructor standing right behind the door and wrecked me with surprise genestealer while running away. I played a game with my four year old and with some handholding he played quite decently, even managing to damage the Destructor

I still think this book was the best way to manage martials. 4e's "daily" powers etc for fighters made them all feel samey (at least on the surface). 5e's battle master has no scaling.

I'm sure at this point we can all agree the Tome of Battle got too much flak.

>that's on players for never dipping wizard 1 on their fighters. No D&D character should ever be a total non-caster, only not primarily a caster.
For combat specialists I'm pretty sure Duskblade would be better. PA with True Strike goes hard.
>>
The most balanced way to play 3.5 was to allow Tome of Battle, Psionics, Beguiler, and nothing else.
>>
>>97098359
Here is the class list I used for a game once. The beguiler was the strongest of these options or maybe it was just that the player was particularly good.

> Beguiler, Dread Necromancer, Crusader, Bard, Swordsage, Binder (without access to the summon monster vestige), Duskblade, Factotum, Warblade, Psychic Warrior

Enlightened choices. Sounds like it would have been a fun game. Any particular reason for omitting Warlock if you went that far, though? It's basically "Man with Gun" and a few supporting tricks.
>>
>>97098393
Each class was a guild in the setting. I left out Warlock because they’re not very strong. They’re a bit more specialised. Not a bad class and in the right hands I’m sure it could hold its own. But it just lacked the versatility of say a bard or even dread necromancer. Psychic warrior very nearly didn’t make the cut but what it does it does very well and I liked having at least one psionic class.

I contend that based on mechanics, ease of use and adaptation, ease of modification (though I would stick to Pondsmith's version as much as possible as it's just about perfect), it's rules being shown as accurate to real life firefights in a study done recently and the fact that it's modular and can be dropped right in and used in ANY tabletop game with firearms: that R. Talsorian Games/Mike Pondsmith have created the GREATEST tabletop system for gun fights in the history of TTRPGs.

Thoughts? If you disagree I'd love to hear why or if you agree please post why. Let's get a discussion going on this stellar and very unique combat system and frankly, game overall itself.

.45-70 isn't featured in NIJ standards. Armor deformation is also one reason why armored clothing isn't a thing. Even if a special fabric was to stop bullets, there would be nothing to prevent the clothes from being pushed inside the body as they're loose.

Define armored clothing. Because you can buy all kinds of ballistically resistant jackets and hoodies.

Damn bro. Good on you for surviving both.

Somewhere along the line, either SP is less for deforming or armour weighs/costs more because we don’t see every random thug dressing up in Kevlar suits to have street battles where Saturday Night Specials have the penetrating power of a baseball bat.
