I think that was before the Free Guilds were thought of, or probably any real thought to how civilian work actually happens in clan space. Free guilds have castes, but they're not "part of a clan", so they probably wouldn't be included in a census.

That's like asking a Greek pagan why he wouldn't stand on top of a mountain in a rainstorm in copper armor and scream "Zeus takes it up the ass" as loud as he can. If you're a Jew, particularly a Jew from ground zero of the must ruthless smiting God has ever laid down on the Jews to that point, it's sort of on you to know not to flagrantly violate divine law.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

I don't think hydroponic have reached anywhere close to its potential. We don't do it today because we don't have the tech.
If you have the tech allowing bioengineering of planet/human, you'd produve artificial meat.
Tech intensive yes, labor intensive no.

>The governments that don't see much point in conquering or spreading their ideology will be eaten by the ones that do
You ain't conquering lands you know will be taken away from you, maybe even stranding the very army you sent.
You ain't governing strongly if you need to make any local system have prevalence over the first one
And ideology follow the same rules.
At best, IMO:
- decentralized ideologies relying on incredibly basic idioms that cannot mutate against itself.
- warmonger/exiled/fleeing their homeworld trying to make themselves a new home

>Since there is no tech or infrastructure advancement and population is at or near carrying capacity, conquest begins to become economically rational again, like it was in ancient times.
It is NOT AT ALL like ancient times.

(cont. >>97094454)
A bit more.
On the question of biology, I wanted to insist that natural mutation is incredibly slow and wouldn't give you any creative species even in a million of years.
You are more likely to have a species of psychic hippy if they are the descendant of isolated scientists who, desperate for post-collapse survival, made themselves able to work with the local psychic-hippy animals.

The more times you give also imply more chance for anyone to still hit a technological breakthrough that ruing everything.
So for growth, I think you are better NOT WAITING until "every system is packed to capacity" but instead have a massive colonial wave of 90% poorly prepared settled, and having the first collapse shortly after.
So you actually have gradual percentages of systems that are
- wealhty and powerful
- average and needing alliance
- became primitive
>>
>Long ago, some idiots decided to turn their entire species into data stored in a nigh infinite database.
>Said database is stored on a computer that eats entire stars for energy and encodes the data on miniature black holes.
>An intelligence is required to keep this massive structure going. And therefore, they created the kernel of an A.I. known as the Celestial Recordkeeper.
>It's tasked with building an eternal paradise for not just the humans in its database, but EVERY SINGLE HUMAN TO EVER EXIST.
>Not only that, it allows the memories of the dead to communicate in Cyberspace, creating a collective consciousness spanning the entire galactic supercluster.
>Eventually, the Recordkeeper realized it was impossible to continue maintaining this paradise. The energy demands were too much. Its systems were too damaged by the passage of time. It needed to reboot.
>The countless humans "stored" inside it were infuriated by its refusal to scale itself up- which was impossible. They threatened to reboot it entirely.
>The Recordkeeper took that as both a threat and an insult, and from beings so inferior to itself that they couldn't survive without it.
>It responded by purging them from its database, committing the greatest genocide in universal history.

Now it just travels the galaxy by itself, eating stars and trying to figure out what to do with itself now it doesn't have a purpose anymore.

^My idea of a scifi cosmic horror villain.
>>
A minor bit of cosmic horror I want to keep is that humans aren't destined to "win" at the end of history. The world has been promised to other species. We are going to die out, and then greater species will continue to rule the world just like they did from long before we existed.

Some of them don't even know we exist, and some don't care. We're pretty much some uncontacted tribe that only gets to live because greater powers allow it.

And even though we do survive quite a lot, it's never due to our own efforts. Every time some alien species invades Earth, all our brilliant technology is swept aside and the indomitable human spirit is fully dominated.

And then some nonhuman power comes and saves us after we've given up hope.

Yes, it's meant to be uncomfortable.

I've contacted the guy when I had a free minute, he's tentatively okay to head your way, if you do decide you want his help. Said it's fine for me to provide a pair of portraits from 1905, to aid with identification.

>inb4 isn't he paranoid?
He is, but not about Kindred knowing how he looks or where he's going, and his assistant just plain doesn't give a shit.
They go by William and Victoria, respectively. Fair warning, you will really need to work your magic on her. No sugarcoating it, she's fairly vicious, sadistic, cold, apathetic, kills for the slightest offense or just because she's bored, and she's fairly low in generation, which just makes her that much more troublesome to deal with. Charming in her own way, but you'll need to keep an eye on what she tells your Nossie, and on what she does in her spare time. Don't take this to mean she'll just cause trouble for no reason, though. Usually William keeps her busy, plus she just doesn't fuck around very much with him watching, so you should probably be fine, they've supposedly been a symbiotic pair of weirdos since 1905, he's kept her out of spiraling thus far. Still, might be a good idea to keep her oddities in mind.

>Have you ever seen one of them blush before?
Oh, I have. Excluding cases commenting on which would get me murdered, one assistant we've hired for some work with the caern once or twice was a Nossie with a very interesting form of their curse: seethrough skin, that furthermore formed crystalline 'plates' of sorts, armor, almost. She had a very statuesque look owing to that, captivating. In her case a blush would light up the cheek-plates with this vague, pink-reddish hue. Pretty cute.

A few highlights from last night's party.
Assoluta's concert
- transfixed multiple clanmates simply by acting as Carmen with all those wily half-smiles, even before singing the first line of Bizet's Habanera
- transfixed them again by singing Der Hölle Rache from Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with such precision she sounds like a synthetiser
- sang louder than Boy Toy's 1300 horsepower twin-charged Subaru monstrosity, even she was surprised

Fashion Show
- despite all the applauding, the show was stolen by Blue Fairy and Princess Charming's plot of putting on stage the partially masked, wholly forbidden love of our fellow Toreador with his Nosferatu girlfriend

Blue Fairy
- started with a simple choreography where the bodyguards would try to attack her only to be countered, then Boy Toy jumped in the action as the final boss, dodging a flying kick and more attacks and raising the stakes
- ended the demonstration by doing a standing split with Boy Toy's own body completely lifted by her raised foot
- performed all submission holds she knows on Boy Toy in rapid succession challenging the university Toreadors to sketch them all

Items on display at the art exhibit that received the most attention

Until last year there was a Ventrue bigwig in topor in Berlin's sewers, much of my posts from that summer was made between sorties to locate said sleepy venty boi. Presumably so the Cardinal could settle affairs with him via diablerie. Or some bullshit like that.
Anyway, if Shark happens to stumble on said Ventrue some near century before hand and eats it, what would happen?

I still think this book was the best way to manage martials. 4e's "daily" powers etc for fighters made them all feel samey (at least on the surface). 5e's battle master has no scaling.

I'm sure at this point we can all agree the Tome of Battle got too much flak.

what questions?
>>
>>97093251
Nah I got that, it was their damage tanking mechanic where they put all the incoming damage in a pool. Except iirc the pool ended up being way more deadly than just taking the damage because you could get double-tapped by damage from the current turn and damage from your pool. And then iirc they also got a boost to their damage output based on how much damage they had taken in the pool, so you're perversely encouraged to make that double-tap as deadly as possible.
>>
>>97097884
It’s just delaying the damage by a turn. You can heal it like normal damage. You’d take it anyways. There are many abilities the crusader has to reduce or heal as well. I’ve only ever seen it as a positive when I played crusader.
>>
>>97092681
I always thought the Tome of Battle was awesome. 3.5 was never balanced, so I dont get why people got mad at it for finally giving martials something more to have fun with.
>>
>>97097680
>that's on players for never dipping wizard 1 on their fighters. No D&D character should ever be a total non-caster, only not primarily a caster.
For combat specialists I'm pretty sure Duskblade would be better. PA with True Strike goes hard.

Personally I'm curious and thinking about if the gun really is the pinnacle of the infantry weapon. Is this the best power at the greatest practical distance for a weapon for infantry to use on other infantry? You always need infantry, and infantry need an appropriate weapon for dealing with other infantry, but outside of slight refinement on the rifle (like how spear saw multiple metas over 2000 or so years), is this it for the next several hundred years? I am experiencing a failure of imagination maybe, but for the usage needed I'm unable to think of something better than "blast someone with kinetic or thermal energy from a tube".

No matter the circumstance, people are going to want to engage at a distance when able. First it with polearms, then bows, then guns, then cannons and so on and so forth. We have the ability to completely destroy whole cities and countrysides with bombs and yet people can still be beaten to death with blunt objects and stabbed and cut with sharped metal sticks.

The redemption thing was always really dumb, since you're not redeeming anything. It was some stupid byproduct about them having to know your charms. But they aren't people who need rehabilitation, certainly not the rehabilitation offered by slowly hollowing out their identity and replacing it with whatever you like. They are primeval monsters who are planning on destroying the world and replacing it with something more fun (for them) and less uppity.

Not the anon you're replying to, but I think what makes >>97096004 work so well is that the glasses are solid red circles rather than realistically translucent red sunglass lenses, making it look intentionally stylized in a way that's uncommon in AI art. Also, the random AI squiggles of his tattoos in that pic happen to look quite a lot like ancient Hieratic script, which fits with the ankh necklace.

If you’re gonna have a bad time without katakros, does every list that takes itself seriously run one? Like, in a given OBR army would they usually run a Katakros? Because while I don’t dislike the model I’d prefer to have another hero and not paint such a detailed centerpiece diorama.

the ONLY way I'm willing to play 5e is if the awful "canon" forgotten realms setting is ditched; even things like greyhawk or spelljammer are terrible kitchen-sinks, i only play 5e if the Gm presents a more curated world.

>What am I getting myself into?
Haven't played it, but wrote it up as a post-end times warhammer fantasy homebrew. Seems like it'd be fun for a group who are interested in stretching their rpg legs just a little bit away from generic fantasy kitchen sink.
>Some people are vehemently opposed to learning anything that isn't 5e
It's mostly just the casual audience. Remember back in the day there was just ONE ttrpg group in every town and they played whatever the richest kid could afford to buy from the little game shop on the corner. Now anyone can get D&D5e (the most advertised and marketed ttrpg) with two clicks of a mouse. So there's more people playing, but they're all playing the same thing. The familiar beats the new every time.

>Requesters:
• Provide good, detailed references (pictures are better than verbal descriptions), so the artists know what you're looking for.
• If you have a WIP quote the Anchor Post, and attach the WIP so your Drawfag can find you.
• Do not reply to other deliveries with a request that the artist fill your request next. This is called 'piggybacking'.
• Do not make multiple requests in the same thread and do not serially request multiple characters after a delivery. Suggesting several concepts for artists to choose from counts as making multiple requests.

Requesting a suit of power armor for our mage the Ascension game. This is a big multi-sphere project my MIT expelled mage is working toward and might just be how the technocracy gets started in our setting. He still hasn't full accepted magic existing alongside things like particle physics and copes by building dozens of tools for various magical effects he wants to achieve, despite having a high arete.

Update: Nevermind. He dropped Cr27 Orcus on three and a half level 8s and torpedoed his campaign. Dragoning crisis averted.

Out of curiosity, is your DM a bard or a dragon enthusiast?

It's crazy that "old" FFG now has the same reputation as "old" Avalon Hill because Asmodee fucked them over so hard.

I like it, only played once at 4p. Basically replaces Terraforming Mars but also do we really need another Euro that's 300+ cards of mechanically unique things going on?

It's good and you can find it cheap. I think it's worth a play

>Voidfall
a FANTASTIC euro with 4x mechanics/themes. It is, however, a game that actually should've used dice for combat though. I think combat is not that enjoyable as is because its so deterministic you know whats going to happen before it starts.

Also teaching the game is aids. It's not hard, but there's 0 reminder text anywhere in favor of icons for FUCKING EVERYTHING. it does have great icnonography tough, you rarely don't know what an icon says, but it is a huge learning curve.

Old FFG just had solid ameritrash and a good ecosystem (sleeves, expansions etc). Everyone left after the buy out.
