I still think this book was the best way to manage martials. 4e's "daily" powers etc for fighters made them all feel samey (at least on the surface). 5e's battle master has no scaling.

I'm sure at this point we can all agree the Tome of Battle got too much flak.

what questions?
>>
>>97093251
Nah I got that, it was their damage tanking mechanic where they put all the incoming damage in a pool. Except iirc the pool ended up being way more deadly than just taking the damage because you could get double-tapped by damage from the current turn and damage from your pool. And then iirc they also got a boost to their damage output based on how much damage they had taken in the pool, so you're perversely encouraged to make that double-tap as deadly as possible.
>>
>>97097884
It’s just delaying the damage by a turn. You can heal it like normal damage. You’d take it anyways. There are many abilities the crusader has to reduce or heal as well. I’ve only ever seen it as a positive when I played crusader.
>>
>>97092681
I always thought the Tome of Battle was awesome. 3.5 was never balanced, so I dont get why people got mad at it for finally giving martials something more to have fun with.
>>
>>97097680
>that's on players for never dipping wizard 1 on their fighters. No D&D character should ever be a total non-caster, only not primarily a caster.
For combat specialists I'm pretty sure Duskblade would be better. PA with True Strike goes hard.

Princess, what's the best version to play?
I finished madoka and wanted to try some magical girl adventure
>>
>>97097929
Depends on which version you're looking at.
Pre-D7, it's exactly that. Demons in DtA are the shadows of ancient entities who are trying to break through time, hence the focus on different time periods in the splat. God is still busy trying to keep them from breaching containment, but their meddling basically indirectly kickstarts a bunch of other splats (and maybe also themselves thanks to time travel). Mages are probably the most linked, they often try to summon and use demonic power in attempts to upend reality because they're pissed at God for upholding a "sins of the father" type punishment on all of humanity. Changeling I'm less familiar with, from my understanding they were created as simulacra of demons. But whoever created the original batch potentially fucked up and now they're essentially a self propagating parasite that feed off Anomalies, which are basically the same thing as demon's Ripples, so they propagate wherever weird shit happens (it's supposed to be an explanation for cryptids). So they "hunt" demons despite being made in their image, maybe that was the goal all along. Mages are fucking terrified of changelings, since by using demonic power they're basically walking Anomalies.

They really changed things up with D7 though. Playable demons are now actually kind of the opposite, instead of coming from the past and purposefully fucking shit up, it's sort of the opposite angle where they're from the future and are unintentionally causing chaos. They're entities with unknown origin(s), only that they got sent back in time with a mission. But the rewinding time caused them to get fucked up beyond recognition, even to themselves. So they're an army of amnesiac Terminators who don't know what they are or if they're even on the same side. None of them know what their actual goal is, so they rely on their literal visions of the future to guide them. Trying to interpret those leads to a lot of disagreement and conflict, as expected.

Personally I'm curious and thinking about if the gun really is the pinnacle of the infantry weapon. Is this the best power at the greatest practical distance for a weapon for infantry to use on other infantry? You always need infantry, and infantry need an appropriate weapon for dealing with other infantry, but outside of slight refinement on the rifle (like how spear saw multiple metas over 2000 or so years), is this it for the next several hundred years? I am experiencing a failure of imagination maybe, but for the usage needed I'm unable to think of something better than "blast someone with kinetic or thermal energy from a tube".

With the help of any human female off the street I can make a bipedal learning machine with proficient use of hands that will certainly outperform any LLM on reasoning and power efficiency in 9 months or so. I can't use the same female to make a heavy industrial tracked machine that can safely self-navigate a worksite, move several hundred lbs with its arms, and also be teleoperated from anywhere in the world in the same time.

No matter the circumstance, people are going to want to engage at a distance when able. First it with polearms, then bows, then guns, then cannons and so on and so forth. We have the ability to completely destroy whole cities and countrysides with bombs and yet people can still be beaten to death with blunt objects and stabbed and cut with sharped metal sticks.

The redemption thing was always really dumb, since you're not redeeming anything. It was some stupid byproduct about them having to know your charms. But they aren't people who need rehabilitation, certainly not the rehabilitation offered by slowly hollowing out their identity and replacing it with whatever you like. They are primeval monsters who are planning on destroying the world and replacing it with something more fun (for them) and less uppity.

The previous >>97096004 image got the feel right somehow in a way that AI rarely does. I am not sure how to explain it - >>97096739 - is trying to portray a cool vampire chad. It looks tacky, stereotypical, and like an amateur attempt at style. But this >>97096004 somehow ACTUALLY has style. It's also "realistic" to the point where this could actually be a person, and they are not 100% a played out stereotype.

Not the anon you're replying to, but I think what makes >>97096004 work so well is that the glasses are solid red circles rather than realistically translucent red sunglass lenses, making it look intentionally stylized in a way that's uncommon in AI art. Also, the random AI squiggles of his tattoos in that pic happen to look quite a lot like ancient Hieratic script, which fits with the ankh necklace.

If you’re gonna have a bad time without katakros, does every list that takes itself seriously run one? Like, in a given OBR army would they usually run a Katakros? Because while I don’t dislike the model I’d prefer to have another hero and not paint such a detailed centerpiece diorama.

Besides that they pretty much just slowly trudge up the board and hold their ground right? Like a macro-heavy army

Haven't played it, but wrote it up as a post-end times warhammer fantasy homebrew. Seems like it'd be fun for a group who are interested in stretching their rpg legs just a little bit away from generic fantasy kitchen sink.
>Some people are vehemently opposed to learning anything that isn't 5e
It's mostly just the casual audience. Remember back in the day there was just ONE ttrpg group in every town and they played whatever the richest kid could afford to buy from the little game shop on the corner. Now anyone can get D&D5e (the most advertised and marketed ttrpg) with two clicks of a mouse. So there's more people playing, but they're all playing the same thing. The familiar beats the new every time.

a FANTASTIC euro with 4x mechanics/themes. It is, however, a game that actually should've used dice for combat though. I think combat is not that enjoyable as is because its so deterministic you know whats going to happen before it starts.

Also teaching the game is aids. It's not hard, but there's 0 reminder text anywhere in favor of icons for FUCKING EVERYTHING. it does have great icnonography tough, you rarely don't know what an icon says, but it is a huge learning curve.

And like the english it's done in the most byzantine way possible, with incredible attention to, again, ritual - every aspect of life among the bureaucracy has different clothes for different tasks (bureaucratic sacristies are big business), piles of different dialectics of low gothic that are used to sing in a choir that accompanies a process server, that sort of thing. While the butler says in plain high gothic that the fourth son of the holder of the rod has delivered his summons, nobody but the in group knows what it means or why there's some random confused hobo standing outside accompanied by an honour guard wearing more gold than an indian fresh immigrant who hasn't met a basketball american yet. Or why everyone is waiting for a response - the hobo isn't allowed to know, either.

The lower classes basically mix in ritual and faith to assuage their own fears - think of how you might live your day to day life if you had to stop and perform a small dance twice a day and pray precisely four and a half times over a 49.8 hour period. Imagine if your average fentanyl zombie was actually performing a religious or bureaucratic ritual and would randomly snap up to being normal, calmly announce it's seven bong, fill out a form and walk off. Think of how muslim countries sometimes structure their days around prayer times, or how very hot nations sometimes start early and end around 1 or 2 pm. If you're a millenial, remember how in the 90s with dial up you had some incredible access to information, but still regularly consulted books because sometimes it was just easier, as well as all the jokes about magic blue smoke. Now mix it all together.
>>
>>97097075
>>97096884

You basically end up on a world where life is broken up by bizarre rituals that only certain people understand, but each are always respected. The ritual, not the person. Life's pretty good, if dirty. People get up, go to work, information stacks up in the data crypts, go home, sleep. People complain about their jobs, their boss, the local ecclesiarch who turned out to be worshipping the funny bird man in the small hat. The cults slip in through small banalities and cruelties, people who are seeking something more than that stifling atmosphere of ritual and continuity.

Anyway, sperg aside, that's where the evil comes in. You know how today everyone is a bit lost? Some turn to religion, some turn to youtube influencers, some turn to the past. That's where the cults come in - they offer a little pocket in that stifling blanket of continuity and ritual. The world has gone on the way it has for millenia and won't stop. Nothing matters. Banality.

For us, it was a standard doctor cult. Nurglite industrial magnate who couldn't stop the pain with modern medical science but found something that did. He started sponsoring doctors, found people at the lowest rungs of society who couldn't stand the spiritual pain of just living down there anymore despite being relatively well fed and clean and safe. The only reason he got caught was because the smoke from his factories got dirtier. 99% was just navigating the bureaucratic wank and going from office to office arguing with people in increasingly stupid hats.

>What is this?
/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

as with maps, tokens and lore resources.

>you probably painted the original rivers with some logic in mind, right?
I respected the rivers from the original map, and took into account the height of the geography and the shape of the seas. Beyond that, they are somewhat random.

Everyone's getting subs these days, eh? I'll include them when/if I get around to a writeup about submarines in Agartha.

Quite a good read, I appreciate the Wapaq coming back from Chart Obscurity. Speaking of the chart, what are your thoughts on the blurb for the Steppe Rider unit saying they're looking for Genghis Khan?
Also, The Dracon. Is he just a rabidly anti-Ottoman guy from the Danubians or are vampires real and canonical?

There's a unit for Nicholas Miklouho-Maclay in the unit doc, and I've had an idea for a while for a unit themed around the Artel where you could choose between a geologist, mycologist, or ethnologist like with the Aeronaut. Let me know if you would like to see any of the above worked in.

Finally: Jump Man is real and from the Tsardom?

Could you put the new books on the mediafire when you have a spare moment? Right now the only way to easily get them in PDF form is to use that most wretched of applications.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

The game is just not for you it seems, its ok. People know there is problems, you keep dismissing this while people keep saying it. People like it in spite of that anon. It literally just hit 1.0, give it some time to ion out the setting more.

People happen to like where its going not just where its at. Its a neat concept and people are interested to see where it goes, while youre shouting "the dates in the lore dont make sense and I dont believe people genuinely like this game" as people are making their own models and anticipating new factions. Its rule of cool.

You are more concerned with the string a painting is being hung on over the painting itself, its not that its not important, its just not the thing people are actually interested in and are willing to throw the game out over. The writing could be objectively shit or even non existant and it wont change the fact that the theme and the designs are cool for a tabletop game, which is the thing people are interested in the game for.

>the Sniper Priests not operating in africa
Explain?
>>
>>97095830
The variant for Abyssinia, which is based in North Africa, dont get access to Sniper Priests because that sect 'doesnt operate' over there. Unclear if this is a theological dispute or just their base of operations/training being in one location.

I thought it was stupid hard to get over to Abyssinia, and only warriors from Abyssinia could get out.

Legion and Shatterpoint are both good games with great-looking minis.
And while I'm not into card games, from what I've tried Unlimited is also really cool.
Pic related, a game I played last week
>Sabine got 2 turns of Electroshock therapy to fix whatever the fuck is wrong with her courtesy of Cad Bane M.D.
>Clan Wren almost got 1-shot by humble B1s
>meanwhile, the real rebels managed to clobber Magnaguards, Droidekas and BX droids to death, proving that punching droids does work when you're not a wimpy clone.

This poster always bothered me because the number is WAY higher than that. The Delegation of 2000 is a faction within the Senate, not even a majority.

Pantorans, Chiss, and Twileks. The greatest emperor needs all 3 or he is lost.
>>

Ok, name 1 franchise that has been going for more than 40 years with absolutely nothing "Absolutely fucking stupid" ever happening?

Also, let's face facts, plenty of retarded shit happened in Star Wars long before Disney got anywhere near it. Lest we forget that Dark Horse comic with:

>Obi Wan: "Master Qui, why aren't Jedi allowed to love?"
>Qui Gon: "Well, Obi-Wan. Once upon a time, there was a planet with a beautiful princess. Then, a pair of Jedi fell in love with her. And they had a fight. And to make a whole long story short, the planet blew up... The end."

Let's not forget, RoS's "Somehow Palpatine returned" wasn't the first "Somehow Palpatine returned."
A lot of people seem determined to delude themselves into thinking the Dark Empire comics were good, or at least passable. They're not. I love Cam Kennedy's art. It's very cool and evocative. But it doesn't make up for the god-awful writing that's only just barely above RoS.
