i just started playing recently, and last game on lichess, the other player was able to somehow take his last turn back, and it added like a whole bunch of minutes to my time. however, it was the difference for losing

why cant the king go in front of the pawn here. the solution is making it take the rook

I have induced schizophrenia by slowly investigating lines which might possibly save the Immortal Game at the point of 20. Ke2, which is when Black actually resigned. I believe that this schizophrenia and paranoia will improve my play if channeled properly. For every thicket of threats, there exists an opportunity for exploitation.
>>
>>92907560
Kd3 would get you out of check, but then d1=Q would leave you in deep trouble. If you take the rook instead, then you aren't immediately in check after the promotion, and can take their bishop without retribution.

I don't know why they keep doing the group photo on that particular staircase. It's always a bit weird. Maybe the venue requires it if you hold events there.

Can someone please explain to me why I have a harder time playing 500-700 ELO players than I do 800-1000?

They are less predictable and/or /you underestimates them. Try the focus mode or whatever is called that settings that hide ratings.

I started playing chess 3 weeks ago and im around 1000 on lichess. Person i played last had 1000 games and lost making more blunders than i did . If im still at 1000 after 1,000 games ill kms
>>
>>92921993
lichess ratings are inflated by ~200 points or so.

That said welcome to pain. That is all chess is. there is no joy, only wasted time and pain. You should stop now before it gets into your blood and you can't break away.

Yeah and also make sure you taste test every chunk to make sure it's real lead and they didn't lace it with fake bullshit.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that hates the stupid grabbing hand cursor that lichess just added. Why the fuck would they do this? There's no need to get all cutesy. Just leave it alone.

I'm absolutely sure 90% of the playerbase on lichess are cheaters

I don't understand what I'm supposed to be doing in chess, it just doesn't make sense to me. I know I'm supposed to predict what moves they'll make and setup good opportunities for my own pieces, but there's just too much going on.

How does a brainlet learn how to play chess?
>>
>>92930880
Follow the basic "chess principles"; do lot of puzzles to develop your "pattern recognition"; look at your opponent last move and try to figure out what he wants to do and then stop his plan; always attack something, even a pawn, and if your opponent defends it, double the attack, triple it, and get the damn pawn.

Very nice, immediate aggressive control of the center before pressing in on the enemy's king side.
>I'm not a real chess player. But people, for some reason, keep playing worse than me.
Same. Playing chess is a fun diversion but proper study is mental work I would prefer to apply elsewhere, makes for a fun balance of learning new tricks by getting rekt by people who know chess and making fun maneuvers work against people more on your own level.
>>
>>92939091 You got the spirit. I play for the emotion, not for the outcome. And I play as fast as I can. I feel the need for speed.

I have trouble getting into Hikaru because there's a grating feminine aspect to his voice that shouldn't be there, not sure if it's the uptalk or poor recording practices or what. I like the content of his videos but I have to watch them at 2x speed to distort the voice and get it over with faster.
