I think GW should have more edited model photography like pic related or like the ones from ForgeWorld/HH books to spice up the codexes a bit.

A great opportunity to sneak in unreleased models to be noticed too.

March 2020, couple of days before the lockdowns hit my country.
After that I didnt play with my friend for the rest of 9th and then when 10th came out the new rules and lack of options really put us off so I have not played since then.
Still play KT and collect/paint/convert models though

also here is a pic of my evil cultists
>>
>>93302066
You're going to struggle with vehicles in a vehicle heavy edition. Try allying two warglaives or even a lancer to help deal with opposing armour.
Trajann attached to a unit of wardens will fucking annihilate anything they touch while also being very hard to kill, that's the core of most armies. A good opponent will know this and avoid melee but you can use this to your advantage and force your opponent into staying off objectives and making unfavourable trades with your other units
I've also had success with a blade champion attached to a unit of sword and board guard as they're fairly tough, mobile, and hit like a truck
>>
>>93302381
Thanks. Just found it funny what I could build with a bunch of footstodes.
>>
>>93301370
My sororitas codex has some really nice spreads, but they are so nice they don't activate that monkey brain from seeing the old early 2000s codex I had as a kid. No green flock at all.
>>
>>93301747
>>93302066
You're going to want at least two blade wizards, preferably on guard units for the extra threat range.
If you don't have any tanks, then get some Allarus termies. They reroll wounds on monsters and vehicles.
The extra attacks on captains makes equipping them with axes worthwhile.
Wardens make captains insanely difficult to remove from objectives.
Praetors are shit, avoid them.

Necrons. Vehicles, monsters, infantry and leaders are designed to complement each other in some way.
Everything was great before C'tan spam became the norm.
>>
>>93302485
Sororitas does combined arms the best because everything has good special weapons and their tanks are all good at supporting infantry. That said, every army in the game is tank (well, high toughness) spam right now except Chaos.

Been focusing on kill team for a while and want to try getting back into bighammer. I heard that EC was getting a new update or somthing and figured I'd start printing and painting some noise boys. What kind of "must have" units you think I'll be focusing on? I know lucias is a must take if I remember, and obviously a good amount of sonic weapons, but im not sure what other chaos units I'd be using (I only have a 2k point admech army that I haven't really used).

>>
>>93302707
You'll probably get something like the world eaters where it'll be a few new units but you'll definitely have noise marines.
>>
>>93302735
They took care to note that EC isn't necessarily getting a codex, maybe they're just guaging the popularity
>>
>>93302750
They've done a revamp for each chaos god every couple of years or so, it would really suck if they didn't do it.
>>
>>93302498
Not nearly heavily edited enough, and bases are visible.
The pictures you're showing are essentially supposed to inspire wargamers to game, while the ForgeWorld photo edits seem more geared towards inspiring imagination about what is happening during the wargame.

Pic related is not by ForgeWorld but by hobbyists. I think the biggest hurdle is making a diorama scene for models which might be why such images seem so rare.

But ArtistEmpire's paintovers can be achievable without a diorama.

How much freedom does an Imperial navy captain have over their ship's staffing and general operations? Like is it basically the equivalent of a planetary governor and his planet but with duties instead of tithes? Like as long as you do what your superiors and the admirals say, they give zero fucks? Or are there more military regulations and commonalities?

Like how about officers beneath the captain? Does the captain get to pick them all, or are some promotions from other ships appointed by navy staffing admirals or whatever? Could an admiral have entirely hereditary officers or like, 'fuck it, I'm going hot bridge bunnies yolo bitches' or whatever? Likewise, how are Voidsmen-at-Arms trained and outfitted? Is that the duty and discretion of the captain or is there some Munitorum equivalent that ensures at least some measure of standardization of gear, if not tactics, across all ships?

>How much freedom does an Imperial navy captain have over their ship's staffing and general operations?
They generally have the pick from whatever applications they get if none are assigned to then.
The comparison to Planetary governs is close but they have more overhead since the navy is close institution.
>Like how about officers beneath the captain?
Same as above. Since the navy has schools and colleges it's whoever they are assigned/pick. They still have commisairs so no sexy bunny crew.
>how are Voidsmen-at-Arms trained and outfitted?
Half up to the ship, other half from navy itself. Like the guard they have deals with the local Forge worlds so they get whatever Variant they provide plus any special toys that captain might have from outside favors or from special institutions. Training is not gonna vary since ship to ship combat won't vary like planet combat save for teams who deal with hulks.

Yes and no. Their genetic legacy is rather… obvious. Especially in the older marines and veterans. However their gen sires refuse to acknowledge them at all as their first chapter master was an egomaniac and religious zealot who only got picked because he’d impressed an ecclesiarchy official during the bloody Nova Terra Interregnum. Said official used all his authority to push for the future chapter master to be selected, only to be executed later for overstepping his authority and interfering with the selection process. Chapter master still got sent to serve though and left his mark on the chapter culture that lasts to this day. Their progenitors only know they exist because of old records, they’re on the other side of the galaxy.

Thanks man, Boyz are always a joy to paint, and I love vibrant colors. Really happy with how the gold turned out in particular.
>whats your lore for why they have htem
No clue, for now. My thought process for making them was: Deffskullz steal shit, so they should have some stolen pauldrons
I also have some Boyz that stole carapace pieces that I'll paint at some point, too. The nob there has carapace going all the way down his back.

the Forging was a period after the War of the Beast which saw the Imperium grow and consolidate for a few Millennia, colonising a bunch of new worlds and the like. The timeline in the 5th Edition rulebook actually calls it the Golden Age of the Imperium.

Khorne is 100% okay with guns and actually likes and respects their usage, its only sorcery he hates, so his units not using them is dumb.

Its like how Orks love guns even if they're a choppy army, its about putting out mindbreakingly large amounts of violence with them rather than sharpshooting. Flamers and heavy weapons should be khorne berserkers bread and butter.

I got basically tabled, something like 60-30. Magnus wiped out a quarter of my list before I was able to take him down, and by then all my transports were dead and my few remaining units had no mobility to contest points or concentrate shooting. What was really killing me were the mortal wounds on vehicles that were 100% non-interactive, plus his bolters that were deleting chimeras in single rounds of shooting. My list relies on transports being damage sponges, so when even bolters can cut them open with ease I've got nothing.

Yes, dataslate changes. I can't honestly tell you, since the game started with him just throwing special psychic rules at me I'd never heard of for 20 minutes and it was all Greek to me. I can tell you that everything within 6" of him deamonprince had -1 to hit (including Magnus), he had a thing that reduced damage from anything to 0 for 1 CP, which he could use every turn, his squad sergeants had some kind of bolt that did 8 MW to one of my russes with no save of any kind, and he had +1 to wound, +1 to hit and reroll all misses on everything. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff, but there was at least that much.

Oh, he could move his guys an extra 5", too.

I said the ork codex wasn't as good as everyone thought, it just had some broken shit on it but once you removed the broken shit orks are a 1-phase army like WE and all their detachments except horde are "spam this unit and win" rather than building lists aroound a style of fighting.
And now that the bandaid has been ripped off it seems like that's the actual result, opinion on the book is turning quickly.

Sisters codex strikes a better balance of being both fluffy and fun to listbuild with.

the only gripe i had (and still have) with the codex is that there really was a dedicated shooting detachment, dread mob is the closest we got which is ok, but not shooty enough imo

I dislike how restricted every detachment is. I'd rather have rules that make for fluffy lists by incentivizing those units than just every detachment being "this benefits these units and nobody else".
Da great hunt benefits 3 units + 5 characters
Kult of speed benefits 10 units, 4 of which is the flier that builds out of the same kit and 3 are the dragsta that also builds off the same kit.
Dread mob benefits 6 units.
And finally Green Tide and Bully Boyz are the most limited of all, Green Tide benefits 1 unit and Bully Boyz all of 4.

I'd much rather have rules like "you can shoot after advancing" or the old Dakka rule "gain X shots if within this range" that naturally incentivize you to bring those units. A rule that improves your shooting won't benefit your fully melee Nobz, but it will benefit all your shooters, not only the ones that have a certain keyword.

Also in general Orks basically have no shooting phase this edition. You can just put all your shit without bothering about LoS because Orks basically cannot shoot at anything, they're as one dimensional as WE except they have 5 times the range and they used to have actual dedicated shooting units.

The reason primaris sucks is that it killed all the recognizable marine stuff. No it's a different thing entirely. Armies have distinctive silhouettes, even with refreshed models being released. The new Striking Scorpions are the obvious successor to the old ones. But many of the new primaris things, even the ones that are supposed to be successors like the brutalis dread, are unrecognizable as successors to previous models. It is simply a separate line of models, unrelated to what came before, and replaced what came before with a knockoff that isn't as good.

Damn, this game is hard...

I played Sistas (penitent host) vs Tau (retaliation cadre) and lost 48 - 90

I was overly aggressive early, didn't use blocking line of sight efficiently, had negative results on each trade, fuck up a lot of micromanagement and lost some primary and secondary points...

Any advice for a noob like me ?

How do I deal with battle suits ? Mass melta ?

Is Repentia spam a gimmick? My opponent played the movement phase wonderfully and could never have a good drop on him

How do I contest the middle objective ?

Is there a way to protect myself against tau movement shenanigans and slipperyness ? It felt like everything had fly, or fall back and shoot or similar things, plus the enhancement for the "back to reserve" and strata for 3" DS seems OP

Is the Battle Sister Squad a gimmick ? 115 for a MD generator is a lot I feel

All my early MD were 1 and 2, do I need to have recycling mechanism to change that ?

How do I use MD effectively ?

Is it true that drones are now only options and you don't need the models ?

Are Tau point cost low ? I felt like every unit he had was cheaply costed and he had so much of everything or Am I just a little bit salty ?
>>

>>
>>93306010
Your interactions with Tau are going to hinge a lot on the board, poor terrain and you just lose. Especially with T3 armies.

Battlesuits are T5, you kill them with just about anything.

Repentia are expensive now as a trading piece, but they will kill just about anything. Just about setting things up.

Drones are effectively wargear yeah, you don't need to have them but it makes things clearer. You can't shoot or charge them or anything like that.

Tau got a big points hike and came down a little but I wouldn't call them undercosted.

Yeah. Basically it's a coinflip whether GW decides to upgrade your antitank weapons or not.
For example Deffkoptas had 2D3 shots with S8 AP-2 D3 rockets. That's actually pretty damn good, S8 in 9e means 3+ or 4+ wound roll into pretty much every single vehicle in the game.
Now their shooting got slashed in half and their rockets are S9 AP-2 D3. This means a 5+ to wound anything heavier than a Rhino, and in exchange we get twin linked which is whatever. 5+ wound roll with reroll is roughly 55% to wound, 4+ is 50%. 5% better wounding in exchange for half the shots? Fuck off.
Not even getting into how much more durable T5 W4 with ramshackle is compared to T6 W4.

GW!!! LET ME USE THE ADMECH STUFF IN 40K AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!
>>
>>93306455
To be honest it was mostly GW due to its shitty army balancing.
They don't know how to balance shit besides to either pump up the points or lower the points.
And most GW fixes for under powered and bad units is just "lower the points, so they'll buy more of them."

Like say some guy has 2000 points of orks and the guy has some burnaboyz for example. And despite them being bad hypothetically he likes to run them because he likes them.
But then GW goes and "tweaks" the balance, and then basically drops Burna's by 50 points or something, and now the army which used to be 2000 points is now 1700 or something.
All purely hypothetical.

But GW doing shit like this, then just forces the ork guy to buy more shit to bridge 300 point deficit if he wants to run 2000 point games again.

It's not really because of GW and piggies, it's mainly GW, who then fuck over all people who are then forced to buy new shit just so they can keep playing the game.
>>
>>93306460
Isn't there any event in summer? They'll likely announce the next codex and give a new roadmap there.
>>
>>93306519
>To be honest it was mostly GW due to its shitty army balancing.
It was also the community, going from the 1500 standard until 5th to the 1750 in 6th and 7th and then 2000 from 8th onwards. Points, largely, haven't changed that much but we're quite literally playing with a fourth more points on boards a forth smaller.
>>
>>93306515
I think GW is bent on making sure the 30k stuff stays separate from 40k.
>>
>>93306540
Yeah and it's fucking stupid. I have no reason to buy any of that if it isn't playable in 40k even if I really want those models.

Yeah, sure, but skitarii are about the only 40k admech units that actually look good so there's no point in proxying techthralls that don't come with the special weapons as them and all the big robots and automatas can't be proxied for anything in the 40k line.
>>
>>93306528
>Points, largely, haven't changed that much but we're quite literally playing with a fourth more points on boards a forth smaller

Because the 40k community is fucking retarded
>>
>>93306509
I mean those are decently dont but still the top left is a horrible sculpt and done by a person with no taste. The rest are plausibly deniable as carapace variation.
Meme joke models are cringe.
>>
>>93306519
It's the piggies. In 3rd ed, not only were models costed higher but the community accepted "standard point level" was 1500. Over time the standard point level for a game was increased because people kept buying more models and wanted to play with all of them, which makes the game what it is today: impenetrable unless you're some kind of rich faggot.
>>
>>93306582
Not to mention Super Heavy
If something costs 500 points for one unit you gotta jack the points up to 2000

I wish the rules at a supported 1500 or 1750 game mode

>>
>>93306595
I've started doing 1500 point games at my local and I think the game is better at that level. At 2k you get so much shit you don't have to make any choices, you can get hammers, chaff and backups for it all, but at 1500, you gotta cut something. Makes for better games.
>>
>>93306608
Tends to happen when you remove the FOC that put limits on those things for a reason.
>>
>>93306582
To be completely fair, GW influences what point levels people use. In 3rd people used 1500 because the GW battle reportes used 1500. Now they do 2000 because the rules say 2000. Same with board sizes. People switched to the smaller boards because GW put those sizes in the rules, not because they like it better or because the game plays better.
>>
>>93306625
i wish some tournaments would try out 1750
I think that might be a sweetspot
>>
>>93306635
That was the reasoning back in 7th. 1500 was the standard but tournaments pushed to 1750 because it allowed more wiggle room. In hindsight it just spiralled into GW pushing for a 2000 standard.
>>
>>93306618
That's bullshit though, the FOC never represented any real limits to what I'm talking about. 6 troops, 3 fast attack, 3 elite and 3 heavy is more than enough for a bunch of chaff and several hammers. GW had the right idea at the start of 9th when they tuned all the points upwards, but they've been successively dropping points (because people whine when they increase them usually) since then, leading to stuff like the admech situation in 10th before pariah where everything was just way too cheap in points because the datasheets were garbage.
>>
>>93306608
The lower the points, the harder I will rape you because the strongest buffs do not scale down.
>>
>>93306485
I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I give up my koptas, though. I love those models like you wouldn't believe

>>

Despite how many have an "artistic" background I personally have not seen many paint. Although I will admit that handcams are "dangerous" for vtubers
>>
>>93306721
I'm fine with handcams because it's the only way I'll get to watch some dork paint miniatures, but yeah I think it can be dangerous. There's one vtuber that's all about miniature painting which is pretty cool.
>>
>>93306694
>>93306721
honest question, anyone who watches a vtuber is just a pedo right? There's no other way anyone would watch that stuff
>>
So I know that a hit roll can’t be modified by more than +/- 1, so does that mean if a T’au model’s weapons have Heavy keywords, they can’t benefit from For the Greater Good/Markerlights?
>>
>>93306713
Does she moan?
>>
>>93306686
Back then, you had army or unit rules enabling spam of whatever shit anyway, like imperial guard vehicles coming in squadrons or units becoming troop choices like terminators being troops in deathwing. There is little practical difference except more freedom to play units you like instead of having to fill out a minimum requirement of crap. FOC was mostly a way to force players to take troops, it never stopped spam.
>>
>>93306737
>There's one vtuber
Name?

>>93306608
The game is designed for 2k. Lower unit counts would work if it wasn't for the array of 1-per-army units/combos.

Their relative power increases with the fewer units total you have
>>
>>93306749
I don't play Tau but I'm fairly certain that FTGG affects the BS of your weapon, meaning it can stack with a +1 to hit.

>>
>>93306782
Well it's a start I'll post the name if I find him
>>
>>93306773
Designed for 2k blows. You need more models than ever before and it's meant for everyone to have enough room to bring their humongous centerpiece model. The game was a lot better at 1000/1500 points.
>>
>>93306783
Glad it works for you but it's not because the game is better
>>
>>93306625
That's completely backwards. In 4th, 5th, 6th, and I think even 7th, the point totals suggested by GW were 500, 1000, 1500, and 2,000, with no indication of what the "standard" game size would be, just table sizes suitable for each. By 7th the typical game size in common and tournament play had already crept up to 2,000, so when 8th rolled around and GW started getting much more actively involved in the tournament scene they finally started pushing 2,000 as the goal point total for a given army.

>>93306582
As I mention above GW never made any moves to encourage higher point total games until 8th. At least not deliberately. From how I recall seeing it organically happen across scenes, it went like this:

>5th edition was a drastic shift in point totals for armies and the introduction of a lot of the earliest FoC "flex" rules like leaders unlocking certain specialist units to be taken as Troops, or vehicle squadrons/multiple vehicles for one FoC slot becoming far more frequent. Admittedly, this is probably the one thing you can put on GW to blame for ballooning army sizes and point totals. But ultimately, people become accustomed to playing with more toys than before, and seem to like it, because...
>6th edition books see a swing starting the other way. Lots of armies (marines were generally an exception) see 10-30% increases in point totals for their armies. This ends up annoying people who had become accustomed to the bigger army sizes and a lot of play groups experiment with adding 250 points to the most common game size to compensate.
>7th edition books once again see similar points raises. People once again, wanting to maintain the sizes they had enjoyed in 5th, start playing with even more points. Shenanigans in 7th like formations end up encouraging it, which again is something you could lay at GW's feet but by then they were just following a player trend.
>>
>>93306792
my centrepiece IS cool though :3

that said, remember when just a dreadnought was a centrepiece, now its a knight or a primarch
>>
>>93306749
FTGG
>Each time a model in a Guided unit makes an attack that targets their Spotted unit, improve the *Ballistic Skill* characteristic of the attack by 1
Heavy
>Each time an attack is made
with such a weapon, if the attacking model’s unit Remained Stationary this turn, add 1 to that attack’s *Hit* roll.
Emphasis mine. These are different modifiers.
>>
>>93306801
Yeah that was a really nice time, it felt like the models weren't too big to interact with the table. I remember when my leman russes were a big focal point to my guard.

I personally don't mind a centerpiece being bigger than a dread, but I think a centerpiece shouldn't be your warlord, makes things kinda doofy IMO. It's cooler when the centerpiece is like, a trump card for a somewhat smaller dude, like a Chaos Lord/Daemon Prince & a Daemon Engine or Neurothrope/Hive Tyrant and a Haruspex.

Fear and Hunger has these kinds of enemies that are essentially demi-gods/powerful heroes that are kept alive via magical means just to be brutally tortured to the point there's no part of them that isn't scare tissue. Would it be out of place for a Slaaneshi daemon world to have these kinds of beings around, or a powerful Slaanesh champion turning his enemies into things like this. I like the idea of making a being more powerful just so it can endure more kinds of torture.
Maybe Jaghati was turned into one of these things and just can't die
